Introduction

Illustrations used in this article are from OnePager Pro using data from Microsoft Project but the features, function, controls, and manual edits apply equally to other OnePager editions that import from data sources like Microsoft Excel, Smartsheet, Oracle Primavera P6, Project Planner, Planisware Enterprise, Asana, and Wrike.

Next to the Document width control is a button called the Automatic Aspect Ratio Button shown in the illustration below:

Often when editing the Chart changes are made to its width or its height by adding rows/swimlanes, additional text columns, or graphs and data cells, for example. Doing so changes the aspect ratio which is the ratio of the width to the height expressed as (width x height). It is common for OnePager users to want to export their Charts to Microsoft PowerPoint where there are preferred aspect ratios of 16x9 and 4x3. OnePager supports these two aspect ratios and you have the option to select one or the other using the PowerPoint aspect ratio control shown above in the illustration of the Chart Properties form's Page Layout tab's Page Setup control group.

The Automatic Aspect Ratio Button is useful when the Chart being edited has drifted from one of the preferred PowerPoint aspect ratios and you want to bring the edited Chart back to either the PowerPoint of 16x9 or 4x3 quickly without making any computations. OnePager's Automatic Aspect Ratio Button, when clicked, brings the Chart's aspect ratio immediately into correspondence with the selected setting in the PowerPoint aspect ratio window (i.e., 16x9 or 4x3) also shown in the illustration above.

For convenience, the Automatic Aspect Ratio Button is provided in all OnePager series Template Properties form's Page Layout tabs as shown here:

Automatically Updating the Chart’s Aspect Ratio to Microsoft PowerPoint Aspect Ratios

As mentioned in the Introduction above, many OnePager users insert their OnePager Charts into Microsoft PowerPoint presentations. Using Microsoft PowerPoint with OnePager you have the option to use two different aspect rations16x9 and 4x3 width x height. However, during your editing of OnePager Charts the aspect ratio of the Chart may differ, sometimes significantly, from these two desirable aspect ratios. Usually when this happens and you want to maintain the 16x9 or 4x3 aspect ratios for Microsoft PowerPoint, you need to recalculate the values in the Document width and/or Document height windows. The Automatic Aspect Ratio Button is an easy single click way to reestablish the Microsoft PowerPoint aspect ratio that you set in the Chart Properties form’s Page Layout tab’s Page Setup control group’s Microsoft PowerPoint aspect ratio dropdown list selection.

Examples are provided below to illustrate the use of the Automatic Aspect Ratio Button.

Examples of Resetting OnePager Aspect Ratios to Microsoft PowerPoint Aspect Ratios

For the purpose of example, the next two sub-sections show how to use the Automatic Aspect Ratio Button to get to a specific Microsoft Power Point aspect ratios.

Reestablishing the Microsoft PowerPoint Aspect Ratio of 16x9

For this example, suppose the starting aspect ratio of your OnePager Chart, as shown below, is 14.0x8.6 or 1.63:

The illustration above is a complete view of the OnePager Chart Editor showing the Chart and the unused space to the right. The Chart Properties form’s Page Layout tab indicates that the Document width is 14.0 and the Document height is 8.6 which, taken together, is an aspect ratio (width x height) of 1.63.

Clicking the Automatic Aspect Ratio Button as shown below, sets up OnePager to automatically resets the Document width to 15.3 with the Document height remaining the same for a new aspect ratio of 1.78 (16x9). This change matches the setting in the PowerPoint aspect ratio window in the Page Setup control group in the form shown below:

Note that the Chart has not changed in the illustration above. The change does not take effect until the OK or Apply button on the Chart Properties form is clicked as shown in the illustration below:

The illustration above, where the Chart Properties form has not changed position in the Chart Editor shows that the width of the Chart increased to put the 16x9 or 1.78 aspect ratio into effect.

This change was done without the need for you to recalculate the new Document width.

Reestablishing the Microsoft PowerPoint Aspect Ratio of 4x3

For second example, suppose the starting aspect ratio of your OnePager Chart, as shown below, is 14.0x8.6 or 1.63:

The illustration above is a complete view of the OnePager Chart Editor showing the Chart and the unused space to the right. The Chart Properties form’s Page Layout tab indicates that the Document width is 14.0 and the Document height is 8.6 which, taken together, is an aspect ratio (width x height) of 1.63.

Clicking the Automatic Aspect Ratio Button as shown below, sets up OnePager to automatically resets the Document width to 11.5 with the Document height remaining the same for a new aspect ratio of 1.33 (4x3). This change matches the setting in the PowerPoint aspect ratio window in the Page Setup control group in the form shown below:

Note that the Chart has not changed in the illustration above. The change does not take effect until the OK or Apply button on the Chart Properties form is clicked as shown in the illustration below:

The illustration above, where the Chart Properties form has not changed position in the Chart Editor shows that the width of the Chart increased to put the 4x3 or 1.33 aspect ratio into effect.

This change was done without the need for you to recalculate the new Document width.

Summary

The Automatic Aspect Ratio Button on the Template Properties and Chart Properties form’s Page Layout tab’s Document Setup control group is provided so that you can quickly reset the aspect ratio of your Chart in the Chart Editor to an aspect ratio suitable and acceptable to exporting the Chart to Microsoft PowerPoint in support of a schedule conversation or presentations.
