About Document Fitting

The Document Fitting control group on the Page Layout ribbon tool bar tab provides controls for you to select the number of horizontal (width) pages, the number of vertical (height) pages, and the control for scaling the document or fitting the document onto the output media. You can increase or decrease the number of pages comprising the output media by using the Width and Height dropdown lists in the Document Fitting control group on the Page Layout tab. The Width and Height dropdown lists allow the selection of the number of pages into which you want to divide the chart. The Width and Height dropdown lists are shown below:

When you select Automatic for both the width and height settings, the Scale window is enabled giving you choices for scale factors as shown below:

P70-8 6 1 2 2-70-(2)-09042019.png

Increasing the Scale factor enlarges the chart on the output media while decreasing the Scale factor decreases the size of the chart on the output media. Using these controls you can tailor the the presentation of the chart on the output media to include printed pages and copied pages suitable for pasting into a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation.

Width and Height Settings

The Width and Height settings allow you to control the number of pages the chart is divided into when transferred to an appropriate output media. Starting with a height and width setting of one (1), indicates that only one output page is available for transmission to an output media.

Example

OnePager sets an appropriate scale factor for this 1 X 1 configuration based upon your selection from the Page Size dropdown list in the Page Setup control group on the Page Layout ribbon tool bar tab. For example, if you start off with a Letter page size, the scale factor is 71% all other things being equal as shown here:

P70-8 6 1 2 2-70-(3-1)-12072020.png

Changing Page Size

If you change the page size to Legal, OnePager re-scales the chart to fit as one page on the legal size document by changing the scale factor in this case to 90% as shown below:

P70-8 6 1 2 2-70-(4-2)-12072020.png

Looking at the resulting scale factor, in the above illustration, we see that it is changed to 90%:

P70-8 6 1 2 2-70-(5-1)-12072020.png

Changing the Width and Height

Changing the Width and Height settings to 2 X 2, as another example, creates four (4) output media pages that are sized and scaled to comply with the selection of output media page size, as shown below in Print Preview mode:

Scale Factor

Scale factor as discussed above is in the context of how OnePager automatically re-scales the chart as a reflection of changes to Page size and number of horizontal and vertical pages selected. You have the option to set the Scale factor manually to better control the presentation of your output media. This is done by clicking on the Scale window in the Document Fitting control group shown above and typing in the numeric value for the Scale factor. When finished the checkbox to the immediate right of the Scale window is enabled. When you click the checkbox, OnePager applies the re-scaled value to the presentation of the chart in Print Preview View mode. If you change the Height and Width setting to Automatic, the Scale window is enabled and you can either access the dropdown menu provided or enter your own Scale factor as just discussed. The dropdown Scale factor menu is shown below:

P70-8 6 1 2 2-70-(6A-1)-12072020.png

Example

In the example above, the scale factor was set to 87% for a Legal size document.

Reducing the Scale Factor

Retaining the Legal size document and reducing the Scale factor to 50% gives these Before and After results in Print Preview View mode:

Before – Scale Factor at 87%
P70-8 6 1 2 2-70-(7-1)-12072020.png
After – Scale Factor 50%
P70-8 6 1 2 2-70-(8-1)-12072020.png

Increasing the Scale Factor

Re-scaling up from 50% to 150% produces the following result:

After – Scale Factor 150%
P70-8 6 1 2 2-70-(9-1)-12072020.png

A Note On Changing From Numerical Page Width and Height To Automatic

When you previously selected a numerical value for the number of horizontal and vertical pages and subsequently change the Width and Height values back to the Automatic, OnePager resets the number of pages based on the document's current Page size setting and Scale factor setting in effect at the time. In Print Preview View mode the results can be unexpected since OnePager is taking into account other graphic elements such as the configuration selected for repeated element such as Rows and Swimlanes, Time axes, Headers/Footer, and chart Title. Should the presentation turn out to be unsatisfactory, we recommend first adjusting the Scale factor to obtain the desired presentation look in Print Preview view mode before again manually changing the Width and Height settings.
