Editing Text Columns and Swimlane Labels for Version 7.0 (P70-12_3_1-70-07232020)
By default, text columns and swimlane labels are generated automatically based on data in the Microsoft Project or Microsoft Excel source plan. However, they can be edited manually.
+
Overview
Use the following two step procedure:
+
1) When text column cells and swimlane level cells appear in the chart their contents are determined by data imported from your Microsoft Project or Microsoft Excel source plan.

1) Right clicking any text column cell accesses the following context menu:
+
2) It may be necessary on occasion to edit the contents of these cells to support your schedule presentation goals and objectives.

+
3) It is not necessary to go back to your source plan and change the data and re-import that data to change text column cell labels or swimlane level cell labels; changes can be made to individual or a set of selected cells in the Chart Editor.

P60-12_3_1-60-(1)-11152016.png

+

2) Choose the Edit text command to edit a text column cell. The Enter text form (shown below) appears in which the text column cell information can be added, changed, or deleted.
+
4) Within the Chart Editor, you can use the text column right-click context menu’s Edit text and Properties … commands or the swimlane level right-click context menu’s Edit swimlane label and Properties … commands to edit labels as well as other label properties.

+
5) For more information on using the text column cell label or swimlane level cell label properties, please see the articles at:

1) When a chart has multiple Text Columns displayed you find it more efficient to edit the text in these cells using the editing tools on the OnePager tool bar.
+
6) In addition to editing text column cell labels and swimlane level cell labels using the right-click context menu commands, you can edit Font properties and Alignment settings of text column cell labels and swimlane level cell labels using controls on the OnePager Home ribbon tool bar tab’s Font and Alignment control groups.

2) Suppose we want to change the font size and font color of the text column cell's contents in a particular row. We can do this in a few steps:
+
7) Since being able to edit text column and swimlane level cells requires first selecting the cells to edit, it may be beneficial to review the sections on selection methods for text column cells and swimlane level cells at: Selection Methods Available for Multiple Text Columns 12.0.2-70 and Selection Methods Available for Multiple Swimlane Levels 12.0.2-70.

:a) First, use a left-click to select the row by clicking in either of the text column cells as shown below:
+
8) Whenever you make a change to a text column cell or swimlane level cell, the edited cell becomes a maverick.

1) For the purpose of illustration, we’ll use the OnePager Pro chart below containing three swimlane levels and two text columns:

P61-12_3_1-61-(2B)-11012017.png

+

:c) Finally, we'll change the selected text column cell's context by changing the text's color from black to red. To do this, use the OnePager tool bar's text Color Chooser as shown below to do this::
+

:a) Do left-click in any Text Column text cell selects the entire row and activate the tool bars editing tools. Where there are multiple text column cells selected, any editing actions applies to all selected cells.
+
3) After accessing the text column right-click context menu, click the Edit text command shown above to access the Enter text form and its Enter text window that contains the current contents of the selected text column cell as shown here:

:b) The editing tools available are in the Font, Format, and Alignment groups of the tool bar.

:c) Additionally, the left-click can be used in combination with the CTL key to select multiple non-contiguous rows or with the Shift key to select a set of contiguous rows for text cell editing.
+
4) To change the contents of the selected text column cell using the above Enter text form, type in the desired text into the Enter text window and click the OK button when finished.

:d) Using the editing tools on the OnePager tool bar is a faster way to edit Text Column text cell on your chart.

5) After clicking OK button on the Enter text form, the selected text column cell remains selected and the text in the cell is changed as shown below:

1) The previous section described how to edit all text column cells in a row using the OnePager tool bar. There is a way to edit an individual text column cell in a row where there are multiple text columns by selecting the desired text column cell with what is called a slow double-click.
+

+

P70-12_3_1-(4)-07222020.png

2) The slow double-click is a two-step set of actions on your mouse left click key.
+
Editing Multiple Text Column Cell Labels Using the Edit text Form
:a) First, position the mouse on the text column cell you which to select. Do a first left-click as shown below:
+
6) Editing the text column cell labels of multiple text column cells is similar to editing an individual text column cell’s label except that more cells are selected and the change made in the Edit text form’s window is applied to all selected cells.

+
7) If we select a sequence of text column cells using the SHIFT+Left-Click method to select the cells, right-click in one of the selected cells to access the text column right-click context menu, and then click the Edit text command, the chart looks like this:

P61-12_3_1-61-(2D)-11012017.png

+

:b) Next, wait between a half-second and two-seconds before doing your second left-click and you should have a result as shown here:
+

+

+
2) Whenever you select a single or multiple text column cell or swimlane level cell, the two control groups above are enabled and you can use any of the controls shown above to edit the text in the selected cell or cells.
+

+
Editing Font Properties of Text Column Cell Labels or Swimlane Level Cell Labels
+

+
3) Using the edited multiple swimlane level cell labels from the previous sub-section above as an example, we can decrease the font size of the selected labels as shown below:
+

+

+

P70-12_3_1-(14)-07222020.png

+

+
4) Once the desired text column cell labels or swimlane level cell labels are selected, you can use the Font control group’s buttons to edit the label text to Bold, Italics, or Underline; increase or decrease the font size; or access the standard Color Chooser form and change the color of the label itself.
+

+
5) When there are multiple text column cell labels and/or swimlane level cell labels selected, the edit is applied to all selected labels.
+

+
6) Additionally, you can change the font type and its size by using the dropdown windows appearing above the six buttons in the control group.
+

+
7) All these font properties are available in the Font properties form accesses by selecting a task bar/milestone symbol label, time axis cell label, or text within comment boxes as just a few examples.
+

+
8) Any edits made to cell labels using the Home ribbon tool bar tab’s controls are applied to all selected cell labels.
+

+
9) The methodology described above applies as well to editing the Font properties of text column cell labels.
+

+
Editing Alignment Properties of Text Column Cell Labels or Swimlane Level Cell Labels
+

+
10) As mentioned, when a text column cell label or swimlane level cell label is selected, the Alignment control group on the Home ribbon tool bar tab is enabled so you can change the position of the label text within the selected cell.
+

+
11) If we continue with the example from the previous sub-section, we can change the position of all the selected labels to vertically centered and horizontally centered in their respective cells by clicking the two center buttons in each row of the Alignment control group as shown here:
+

+

+

+
12) All the swimlane level cell labels selected in the chart above are repositioned so that their labels are positioned in the center vertically and horizontally within the cell.

Editing Text Columns and Swimlane Labels for Version 7.0 (P70-12_3_1-70-07232020)

Overview

1) When text column cells and swimlane level cells appear in the chart their contents are determined by data imported from your Microsoft Project or Microsoft Excel source plan.

2) It may be necessary on occasion to edit the contents of these cells to support your schedule presentation goals and objectives.

3) It is not necessary to go back to your source plan and change the data and re-import that data to change text column cell labels or swimlane level cell labels; changes can be made to individual or a set of selected cells in the Chart Editor.

4) Within the Chart Editor, you can use the text column right-click context menu’s Edit text and Properties … commands or the swimlane level right-click context menu’s Edit swimlane label and Properties … commands to edit labels as well as other label properties.

5) For more information on using the text column cell label or swimlane level cell label properties, please see the articles at:

Editing Row Properties 12.22.1-70
Editing Row Swimlane Properties 12.23.1-70

6) In addition to editing text column cell labels and swimlane level cell labels using the right-click context menu commands, you can edit Font properties and Alignment settings of text column cell labels and swimlane level cell labels using controls on the OnePager Home ribbon tool bar tab’s Font and Alignment control groups.

8) Whenever you make a change to a text column cell or swimlane level cell, the edited cell becomes a maverick.

Editing Text Column Cell Labels

Editing Individual Text Column Cell Labels Using the Edit text Form

1) For the purpose of illustration, we’ll use the OnePager Pro chart below containing three swimlane levels and two text columns:

P70-12 13 1-(17)-07162020.png
P70-12_13_1-(17)-07162020.png

2) To edit the label of an individual text column cell, right-click the text column cell to access the text column right-click context menu shown below:

P70-12 3 1-(1)-07222020.png
P70-12_3_1-(1)-07222020.png

3) After accessing the text column right-click context menu, click the Edit text command shown above to access the Enter text form and its Enter text window that contains the current contents of the selected text column cell as shown here:

P70-12 3 1-(2)-07222020.png
P70-12_3_1-(2)-07222020.png

4) To change the contents of the selected text column cell using the above Enter text form, type in the desired text into the Enter text window and click the OK button when finished.

P70-12 3 1-(3)-07222020.png
P70-12_3_1-(3)-07222020.png

5) After clicking OK button on the Enter text form, the selected text column cell remains selected and the text in the cell is changed as shown below:

P70-12 3 1-(4)-07222020.png
P70-12_3_1-(4)-07222020.png

Editing Multiple Text Column Cell Labels Using the Edit text Form

6) Editing the text column cell labels of multiple text column cells is similar to editing an individual text column cell’s label except that more cells are selected and the change made in the Edit text form’s window is applied to all selected cells.

7) If we select a sequence of text column cells using the SHIFT+Left-Click method to select the cells, right-click in one of the selected cells to access the text column right-click context menu, and then click the Edit text command, the chart looks like this:

9) The same results as shown above can be achieved when individual text column cells are selected to become a set of multiple text column cells using the CTL+Left-Click selection method.

Editing Swimlane Level Cell Labels

1) In the illustrations above for editing text column cell labels, you are able to select individual text column or multiple text column cells and use the Edit text form to change the selected cell’s labels.

2) The same process can be used for changing the labels on individual swimlane level cells or multiple swimlane level cells depending on the selection method you use.

3) The examples that follow illustrate how you can change individual and multiple swimlane level label cells in the chart.

Editing Individual Swimlane Level Cell Labels Using the Edit text Form

4) For the purpose of illustration, we’ll use the same OnePager Pro chart below containing three swimlane levels and two text columns:

Editing Multiple Swimlane Level Cell Labels Using the Edit text Form

9) Editing the swimlane level cell labels of multiple swimlane level cells is similar to editing an individual swimlane level cell’s label except that more cells are selected and the change made in the Edit text form is applied to all selected cells.

10) If we select a sequence of swimlane level cells using the SHIFT+Left-Click method to select the cells, right-click in one of the selected cells to access the swimlane level right-click context menu, and then click the Edit swimlane label command, the chart looks like this:

P70-12 3 1-(11)-07222020.png
P70-12_3_1-(11)-07222020.png

11) Changing the contents of the Edit text window to “Planning/Development Team” and clicking the OK button on the form, changes the text in the selected swimlane level cells as shown below:

P70-12 3 1-(12)-07222020.png

12) The same results as shown above can be achieved when individual swimlane level cell labels are selected to become a set of multiple swimlane level cells using the CTL+Left-Click selection method.

Editing Text Column Cell and Swimlane Level Cell Labels Using the Home Ribbon Tool Bar’s Controls

1) When either single or multiple text column cell labels or swimlane level cell labels are selected they can be edited in terms of their Font properties and text Alignment using the Font and Alignment control groups on the OnePager Home ribbon tool bar tab as shown below:

P70-12 3 1-(13)-07222020.png
P70-12_3_1-(13)-07222020.png

2) Whenever you select a single or multiple text column cell or swimlane level cell, the two control groups above are enabled and you can use any of the controls shown above to edit the text in the selected cell or cells.

Editing Font Properties of Text Column Cell Labels or Swimlane Level Cell Labels

3) Using the edited multiple swimlane level cell labels from the previous sub-section above as an example, we can decrease the font size of the selected labels as shown below:

P70-12 3 1-(14)-07222020.png
P70-12_3_1-(14)-07222020.png

4) Once the desired text column cell labels or swimlane level cell labels are selected, you can use the Font control group’s buttons to edit the label text to Bold, Italics, or Underline; increase or decrease the font size; or access the standard Color Chooser form and change the color of the label itself.

5) When there are multiple text column cell labels and/or swimlane level cell labels selected, the edit is applied to all selected labels.

6) Additionally, you can change the font type and its size by using the dropdown windows appearing above the six buttons in the control group.

7) All these font properties are available in the Font properties form accesses by selecting a task bar/milestone symbol label, time axis cell label, or text within comment boxes as just a few examples.

8) Any edits made to cell labels using the Home ribbon tool bar tab’s controls are applied to all selected cell labels.

9) The methodology described above applies as well to editing the Font properties of text column cell labels.

Editing Alignment Properties of Text Column Cell Labels or Swimlane Level Cell Labels

10) As mentioned, when a text column cell label or swimlane level cell label is selected, the Alignment control group on the Home ribbon tool bar tab is enabled so you can change the position of the label text within the selected cell.

11) If we continue with the example from the previous sub-section, we can change the position of all the selected labels to vertically centered and horizontally centered in their respective cells by clicking the two center buttons in each row of the Alignment control group as shown here:

P70-12 3 1-(15)-07222020.png
P70-12_3_1-(15)-07222020.png

12) All the swimlane level cell labels selected in the chart above are repositioned so that their labels are positioned in the center vertically and horizontally within the cell.
