About Managing the Current Template Properties Form

Illustrations used in this article are from OnePager Pro using data from Microsoft Project but the feature's function, controls, and manual edits apply equally to other OnePager editions that import from data sources like Microsoft Excel, Smartsheet, and Oracle Primavera P6.

Since OnePager is distributed with many pre-defined Template Properties forms to choose from, the procedures listed below are important to know:

  • Finding available Template Properties forms,
  • Using the selected Template Properties form,
  • Creating a new Template Properties form and saving the Template Properties form using OnePager Pro and OnePager Express,
  • Creating a new Template Properties form and saving the Template Properties form using OnePager Bundle,
  • Making a Template Properties form from a chart,
  • Renaming a Template Properties form file,
  • Deleting a Template Properties form,
  • Finding included images in Template Properties forms,
  • Including logos in Template Properties forms.

We’ll discuss on each of these topics in this article.

Finding Available Template Properties Forms and Changing the Current Template Properties Forms

OnePager is distributed with a fairly comprehensive set of Template Properties forms. By default, the out of the box Template Properties form is the Single Project Gantt View – Detailed template. Template Properties forms are stored in separate folders. In addition, OnePager separates the Template Properties forms into those that use English measuring units (inches), those that use Metric measuring units (centimeters), and Legacy Templates (created prior to the version 5.3 release). To locate your available Template Properties form, launch the Template Properties form by clicking the Templates… button on the Microsoft Project or Excel tool bar.

Alternatively, when using the OnePager Standalone application, launch the application and go to the File ribbon tool bar tab and locate the Template button on the Options tab. Clicking the Template button accesses the Template Properties form as shown below. Click the File button on the Template Properties form's tool bar and click the Open… command. The result is shown below:

Hovering over a RECENT Template chart file name reveals the path name to the associated Template Properties form being used by that chart file name. To see your available Template Properties forms, click the BROWSE… option to access the Microsoft Windows Explorer window showing your available Template Properties forms in their folder:

Select the Template Properties form file you need and then click the Open button. This establishes the selected Template Properties form as the current Template. Any new charts created from this point on uses this selected Template Properties form.

Using the Selected Template Properties Form

As discussed in the sub-section above, after you have located the desired Template Properties form and have the Template Properties form displayed on the screen, just click the Use button to close the form.

Or, if you have edited the Template Properties form or created a new Template Properties form, click the Save and use button.

Creating a New Template Properties Form and Saving the Template Properties Form Using OnePager Pro or OnePager Express

You can create a new Template Properties form so that you can make the chart settings you need to support your presentations or to establish as standard in your organization.

To create a new Template Properties form, launch the Template Properties form with the Template… button on the Microsoft Project or Excel tool bar. When the Template Properties form appears, select the File command and the click New… option as shown here:

P71-24 6 1-71-(5A)-02182022.png

Clicking the New... command in the File dropdown causes OnePager to create a temporary Template Properties form name and show that the Template Properties form is (unsaved) as shown below:

P71-24 6 1-71-(5)-12232021.png

At this point go ahead and make your edits to the settings on one or more of the Template Properties form's tabs. When you are finished with your edits, you need to save your new Template Properties form and give it a file name appropriate to the project or organization. To do this, again, click the File button on the Template Properties form's tool bar and then click either the Save or the Save As… options as shown below:

P71-24 6 1-71-(6)-12232021.png

You can save the Template Properties form you’ve just created or updated either with the OnePager generated name or with a name of your choosing. You can also save the Template Properties form just created or updated with the OnePager generated name and make it the Current Template by clicking the Save and use button at the bottom of the Template Properties form. To save the new or modified Template Properties form with your own file name, click the Save As… option in the File dropdown.

The Microsoft Windows Save form appears and you can choose the file name and save the Template Properties form as shown below:

Creating a New Template Properties Form and Saving the Template Properties Form Using OnePager Bundle

Creating and saving a new Template Properties form using OnePager Bundle requires an additional step since OnePager Bundle needs you to tell it what source plan type you want to create (i.e., OnePager Pro, OnePager Express, Primavera P6, or Smartsheet). For example, suppose you want to create a Microsoft Project based Template Properties form using the OnePager Bundle. After launching OnePager Bundle from the desktop icon, use the OnePager Bundle Chart Editor's ribbon tool bar's File button to access the OnePager File Options page, then click the Options tab on the left side of the page as shown here:

P71-24 6 1-71-(7D)-04202022.png
P71-24_6_1-71-(7D)-04202022.png

On the OnePager Options page you can access the Templates... button on the right side of the page. Clicking the Template... button accesses the current Template Properties form shown here:

P71-24 6 1-71-(7A-1)-04202022.png
P71-24_6_1-71-(7A-1)-04202022.png

The File tab's New expanded dropdown list has four (4) options: (1) Microsoft Project, (2) Microsoft Excel, (3) Oracle Primavera, and (4) Smartsheet. For example, click the For Microsoft Project command in the File tab's New expanded dropdown list as shown here to create a New Microsoft Project Template Properties form:

P71-24 6 1-71-(7E)-04202022.png
P71-24_6_1-71-(7E)-04202022.png

Making a selection from the dropdown list creates a temporary Template Properties form such as the example shown below for Microsoft Project:

P71-24 6 1-71-(7C-1)-02212022.png

Once the above Template Properties form is created, you can use the Save or the Save As commands to store the form for later used.

Making a Template Properties Form from a Chart

Once you create an effective chart, you might like to use those same settings to make a new chart for a different set of data from different Microsoft Project or Excel source plans. Or you can let some other person emulate the chart’s look and feel as a new standard by sharing the Template Properties form. To do this, open the chart of interest and click the Save as Template button on the Home tab as shown below:

P70-24 6 1-70-(8)-12022020.png

Clicking the Save as Template button accesses Microsoft Windows Explorer and the folder location where Template Properties forms are stored as shown below:

P70-24 6 1-70-(9)-12022020.png

You can change the folder location for the new Template Properties form and change the file name as desired. Click the Save button when editing is completed. You can now use this new Template Properties form to repeat the look and feel of the chart you copied to a Template Properties form with different data from other source plans. You can also share this Template Properties form with other OnePager users by sending them the Template Properties form's files (.TAT extension) in an email, or by copying your Template Properties form files to a shared location.

Renaming a Template Properties Form File

You can rename a Template Properties form file in the same way that you rename any file supported by Microsoft Windows. Use Microsoft Windows Explorer to go to the location where your Template Properties form files are stored. Select the file that you want to change and right-click to reveal the context menu as shown below:

P70-24 6 1-70-(10)-12022020.png

Click the Rename command which highlights the selected Template Properties form file and allow you to make the name change in place. When you’ve changed the name to the desire Template Properties form file, click anywhere or close the Microsoft Windows Explorer window.

Deleting a Template Properties Form File

Deleting a Template Properties form file can be done in the same way that any other Microsoft Windows file is deleted. Locate the Template Properties form file to be deleted in your file system and select the file with a right-click. Then, select the Delete command in the context menu and the file is deleted as shown below:

Finding Included Images in Template Properties Forms

For management of images associated with a Template Properties forms, click the Template Properties form tool bar’s Edit button and the following menu is shown:

P70-24 6 1-70-(12)-12022020.png

Clicking the Images... command gives you a list of images that are included in the displayed Template. If there are no images associated with the Template Properties form, an information message appears as shown below:

Including Logos in a Template Properties Forms

You can put standard images such as company logos into a Template Properties forms so that you and others can build charts that have standard company elements in them.

For more information on Putting a logo or other images into a chart, please see the article at: Inserting Background Images

Then turn that chart into a Template Properties form as described in the previous section. You can verify that the images are indeed part of the Template Properties form by examining its image content. To do this click the Templates… button to access the Template Properties form and go to the Edit button and click the Images… command as shown here:

P70-24 6 1-70-(12)-12022020.png

When you click Images... command, you see a report of which images are in your Template Properties form:

P70-24 6 1-70-(15)-12022020.png

You can view these images at any time using the Template Properties form to make a new chart. To delete an image from the Template Properties form, select an image to deleted from the images listed in the Here are the images in this template form shown above with the mouse (left-click) and click your keyboard’s Delete Key. This permanently deletes the image from the Template Properties form. UNDO does not retrieve the image after the keyboard’s Delete Key is pressed.
