Introduction
The purpose of these articles is to acquaint you with the new pull features of OnePager Pro (OPP) and Express (OPX)There are eight (8) articles in this series, four (4) providing examples of the pull feature for OPP and four (4) for OPX Please see the links at the end of this article to access the rest of the series.
+
This article addresses the creation of new charts from Oracle Primavera P6 source plans.  Oracle Primavera P6 source plans are processed by the OnePager Bundle Standalone edition only.  The workflow presented in this article is based upon OnePager Bundle Standalone.

What is a Pull Operation?
+
Overview Flow Chart for OnePager Bundle Standalone & Oracle Primavera P6
A pull operation starts in the PVE.  That is, you already have OnePager running and decide to update the open project view or (rarely) create a new project view. In contrast, a push operation begins in the OnePager Express Start from which you make a new project view or update an existing project view.
+

 +
<!--<center>P71-7_2_3-71-(1)-11152021.png</center>-->

We added the pull operation because we found that our users were often creating a project view, finding something in the source file that they needed to change, going back to the source file, making the change, and then re-launching OnePager to update the project view.
+
Preparing the Oracle Primavera P6 Source Plan
The pull update lets you open a project view and update it repeatedly as you edit its source file(s).  After each set of changes to the source file(s), you can quickly see the effect on the screen by using OnePager’s new Data tab to pull the source file changes into the project view.
+
Launch Oracle Primavera P6 and access the required source plan. Set the Flags/Numbers field into the Oracle Primavera P6 source plan.  This is the flag that OnePager uses to determine which tasks and milestones to import.  Determine which of the tasks and milestones are to be included and set the Flags/Numbers field cell to Yes for these while leaving the remainder of the task's and milestone's Flag field set to No, 0, or blank. At this point the Oracle Primavera P6 source plan can be saved and closed.  The OnePager Bundle Standalone edition of OnePager Bundle does not require that the Oracle Primavera source plan be launched first.

The example below will illustrate a pull operation when replacing a snapshot.
+
Launching OnePager Bundle Standalone
Example
+
Launch OnePager Bundle Standalone from the Desktop Icon.  The OnePager splash page appears briefly followed by the OnePager Chart Editor form displaying the OnePager Bundle Start form as shown below:

1) Let’s suppose you have a Microsoft Excel plan with an already created a snapshot for a particular date, say, 12/1/2015. However, on 12/3/2015 you receive new information that updates your Microsoft Excel plan. You now want to update the project view’s snapshot for 12/1/2015 to reflect the new information.

2) Further, let’s suppose that there are two different project views created form this one Microsoft Excel plan:
+
When you click the NEW button, OnePager displays an abbreviated OnePager choices (OPC) form.

:(1) One for the PMO audience created with the Show It1 column and

:(2) The second created for the Customer audience created with the Show It2 column.  In this example, we’ll do a replacement for the PMO audience first and then do the same replacement for the Customer audience.
+
When you click the Select button shown above, OnePager then provides a dropdown menu for you to either choose to use the BROWSE Primavera P6 Files …, or click the RECENT option to access recently created Oracle Primavera P6 source plan files as shown above. OnePager can process Oracle Primavera P6 XML and XER file types. Click the BROWSE Primavera P6 Files … option as shown above access a Windows Open form where you can select an Oracle Primavera P6 source plan to load as shown here:

3) Since the Microsoft Excel plan was updated and now reflects the latest information for 12/3/2015 we just need to use the pull operation to bring in the updated Microsoft Excel plan data and replace the snapshot.

4) First, update the Microsoft Excel source file with the updated data you want to replace in the snapshot.
+
As shown above, OnePager displays the loaded Oracle Primavera P6 source plan in the Selected File(s) group of the OPC form.  You can use the Add/Remove feature (described elsewhere) to edit the choice of Oracle Primavera P6 source plan, add additional files to the source packet, and remove files. Clicking the Add/Modify button accesses the Data source selection form as shown below:

5) Launch OPX from the desktop and when the OnePager Express Start form appears click the OPEN button which, in our example, will provide a dropdown menu with the name of the project view you wish to update by replacement. In this case it’s BlueGrass 2J-303-PMO as shown below:

Since the OnePager Bundle can process various source plans from Microsoft Project, Microsoft Excel, Oracle Primavera P6, and Smartsheet, it is necessary to assure that the Starting Template matches the source plan type.  OnePager Bundle can normally do this for you but as a reminder please check the Starting Template’s name before proceeding with filling out the rest of the OPC form.

6) The OPX desktop application will bring the selected project view up in the Project View Editor (PVE) window. This is the project view and snapshot we want to replaceTo proceed with the replacement click the Datatab on the ribbon.  The PVE will look like this:
+
It is recommended that the chart name selected refer to both the project and, perhaps, be familiar to the audience that is likely to view the completed OnePager chart. Additionally, notice that the Select Tasks with ‘YES’ in field: is showing Flag20. We’ve added Flag20 as a User Defined Field (UDF) in Oracle Primavera P6 as a text field for convenience.   Most users select UDF text field to tell OnePager which tasks and milestones to import but any text field or any number field can be usedIt is important that the Flag field represented in this window correspond to the Flag field containing the Yes and No data placed in the Oracle Primavera P6 source plan.

<center></center>
+
The Snapshot date represents the time now or as-of date for the chart you are about to create.  If the date created by OnePager does not reflect the status date required, change the date by using the calendar dropdown window. As the source plan changes later on, you can create additional snapshots to show changes consistently.

Use the Microsoft Excel Source File to Replace a Snapshot
+
Finally, note that the Show file mappings checkbox is checked ON as shown above.  Checking this checkbox ON and pressing the Next> button takes you to the second page of the OPC form shown below:

7) To perform the replacement of the snapshot showing in the PVE window, click the Replace Snapshot button on the Data tab as shown below:
+
<center></center>
 +
<!--<center>P71-7_2_3-71-(7)-11152021.png</center>-->

<center></center>
+
This form allows you to edit which Oracle Primavera P6 source plan fields are used for various purposes such as the Start field and the Color by field.  The Edit current template button also gives you a second opportunity to edit many more initial properties of the chart by accessing the current Template Properties form. Once these choices are confirmed or edited, click the Create new chart button and OnePager imports the flagged data and creates the chart.

8) OPX performs this action by invoking Microsoft Excel and loading the parent Microsoft Excel plan source file and taking the results to update the snapshot as shown above.
+
Once the chart is created, you can edit by right-clicking task bars and milestone symbols and using the context menus commandsYou can also left-click on task bars and milestone symbols and use the editing Icons on the OnePager ribbon tool bar tabs. You can also left-click on a task bar or milestone symbol and use the mouse to drag the selected task bar or milestone symbol up or down from row to row in the chart. When the desired editing is complete, click the Copy to Clipboard button on the OnePager Home ribbon tool bar tab. Then paste the chart into a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, email message, or Microsoft Word document. If the chart contains more than one page, you can choose to copy the entire document, the last page (current page), or a selected numerical page to the clipboard. OnePager can save all charts and snapshots after editing.

+
9) For a project view with multiple snapshots it is important to make sure that you have selected the correct snapshot to display in the PVE window before clicking the Replace Snapshot buttonOnePager knows which snapshot is being displayed and will replace the visible snapshot with data from the parent Microsoft Excel plan's source file. Navigating between snapshots in a multiple snapshot project view can be done prior to the above action by using the View tab on the ribbon as shown here:
+

+
<center></center>
+

+
10) The replaced snapshot for project view BlueGrass 2J-303-PMO is shown below:
+

+
<center></center>
+

+
11) Since we are using the OPX desktop application for this example, it was not necessary to launch Microsoft Excel first.  As long as you’ve properly prepared your Microsoft Excel plan's source file just launching OPX from the desktop icon is basically all that is necessary to utilize the new pull operation.
+

+
12) At this point it is recommended that you save this the project view for access later.
+

+
Preparing a Second Project View for Snapshot Replacement
+

+
13) There are two ways of updating the second project view from the same Microsoft Excel source file:
+

+
:(1) After saving the first project view, close the OPX desktop application and repeat the above process but using Show It2 to select the tasks.
+

+
:(2) Remain in the current OPX desktop application window and update the second project view from there.
+

+
14) Here we will demonstrate the second method as it is more efficient.
+

+
15) With the first project view visible in the PVE window, click on the File tab on the ribbon and then click the Open… tab on the page that appears.  Then, click the project view for the Customer audience as shown below:
+

+
<center></center>
+

+
16) When you click the desired project view name as shown above, OnePager will display that project view in a separate PVE window as shown here:
+

+
<center></center>
+

+
17) You may want to expand this PVE window.  Now, navigate to the “Data” tab on the ribbon as shown below:
+

+
<center></center>
+

+
18) Clicking the  Replace Snapshot button on the Data tab tells OPX to go to the parent Microsoft Excel plan's source file for this project view, perform the snapshot replacement under the control of the Show It2 column of the plan, and display the results in the current PVE window.
+

+
19) The replaced snapshot is shown below:
+

+
<center></center>
+

+
20) In this example we used the pull operation twice to update two project views from the same Microsoft Project source file but using different flag columns.  Now that the second project view is created, we recommend that it too be saved for future access.
+

+
Compare Results, Edit, Copy to PowerPoint
+

+
21) Once you are satisfied with your project views you may save them, copy them into PowerPoint presentations, or share time in other ways.
+

+
22) The pull operation is an easy, fast, and convenient way to create multiple project views which will make you more efficient.

Introduction

This article addresses the creation of new charts from Oracle Primavera P6 source plans. Oracle Primavera P6 source plans are processed by the OnePager Bundle Standalone edition only. The workflow presented in this article is based upon OnePager Bundle Standalone.

Overview Flow Chart for OnePager Bundle Standalone & Oracle Primavera P6

P71-7 2 3-71-(1)-11152021.png

Preparing the Oracle Primavera P6 Source Plan

Launching OnePager Bundle Standalone

Launch OnePager Bundle Standalone from the Desktop Icon. The OnePager splash page appears briefly followed by the OnePager Chart Editor form displaying the OnePager Bundle Start form as shown below:

P71-7 2 3-71-(2)-11152021.png

When you click the NEW button, OnePager displays an abbreviated OnePager choices (OPC) form.

P71-7 2 3-71-(3)-11152021.png

When you click the Select button shown above, OnePager then provides a dropdown menu for you to either choose to use the BROWSE Primavera P6 Files …, or click the RECENT option to access recently created Oracle Primavera P6 source plan files as shown above. OnePager can process Oracle Primavera P6 XML and XER file types. Click the BROWSE Primavera P6 Files … option as shown above access a Windows Open form where you can select an Oracle Primavera P6 source plan to load as shown here:

P71-7 2 3-71-(4)-11152021.png

When you click the Open button on the Windows Open form above, OnePager loads the selected Oracle Primavera P6 source plan and provides you with the expanded OPC form so that you can confirm or edit the settings before OnePager creates the new chart.

P71-7 2 3-71-(5-1)-02262022.png

As shown above, OnePager displays the loaded Oracle Primavera P6 source plan in the Selected File(s) group of the OPC form. You can use the Add/Remove feature (described elsewhere) to edit the choice of Oracle Primavera P6 source plan, add additional files to the source packet, and remove files. Clicking the Add/Modify button accesses the Data source selection form as shown below:

P71-7 2 3-71-(6-1)-02262022.png

Since the OnePager Bundle can process various source plans from Microsoft Project, Microsoft Excel, Oracle Primavera P6, and Smartsheet, it is necessary to assure that the Starting Template matches the source plan type. OnePager Bundle can normally do this for you but as a reminder please check the Starting Template’s name before proceeding with filling out the rest of the OPC form.

Most users select UDF text field to tell OnePager which tasks and milestones to import but any text field or any number field can be used. It is important that the Flag field represented in this window correspond to the Flag field containing the Yes and No data placed in the Oracle Primavera P6 source plan.

The Snapshot date represents the time now or as-of date for the chart you are about to create. If the date created by OnePager does not reflect the status date required, change the date by using the calendar dropdown window. As the source plan changes later on, you can create additional snapshots to show changes consistently.

Finally, note that the Show file mappings checkbox is checked ON as shown above. Checking this checkbox ON and pressing the Next> button takes you to the second page of the OPC form shown below:

P71-7 2 3-71-(7)-11152021.png

This form allows you to edit which Oracle Primavera P6 source plan fields are used for various purposes such as the Start field and the Color by field. The Edit current template button also gives you a second opportunity to edit many more initial properties of the chart by accessing the current Template Properties form. Once these choices are confirmed or edited, click the Create new chart button and OnePager imports the flagged data and creates the chart.

Once the chart is created, you can edit by right-clicking task bars and milestone symbols and using the context menus commands. You can also left-click on task bars and milestone symbols and use the editing Icons on the OnePager ribbon tool bar tabs.
