Overview

1) On occasion swimlane level cell and text column cells may contain text strings or values that are too wide to clearly fit in the horizontal space available.

2) The may happen because the Template Properties form being used has established swimlane cell and text column cell widths that are too narrow.

3) More common, is the occurrence where source plan data fields imported into OnePager contain information that does not fit in the horizontal space available.

4) Where these occurrences are know prior to creating a OnePager chart, you have the option in the Template Properties form to set the widths of swimlane cells and text column cells before a chart is created.

5) Additionally, once a chart is created, there are controls in the Chart Properties form for globally adjusting the widths of swimlane cells and text column cells after chart creation.

6) Finally, there are manual editing techniques available to adjust these same swimlane cells and text column cells widths using your mouse in the Chart Editor.

7) This article covers the global adjustment of swimlane cells and text column cells widths using the controls in the Chart Properties form. Since the controls in the Template Properties form are exactly the same as those in the Chart Properties form, only the controls in the Chart Properties form are discussed.

8) This article also covers how to adjust the widths of swimlane cells and text column cells in the Chart Editor.

Globally Adjusting the Width of Text Columns or Swimlane Levels

1) The Chart Properties form's Rows/Swimlanes tab's Swimlanes and Text Columns control groups have identical dial window controls for adjusting swimlane cells and text column cells widths as shown here:

Text Column Width Adjustment in the Chart Properties Form

2) Additionally, for your convenience, there is an identical text column cell width dial window provided in the Text-Column Formatting - Left#n form for each of the five (5) text columns as shown below for the Left#3 text column:

P70-12 8 1-(2)-7082020.png
P70-12_8_1-(2)-7082020.png

3) This control is useful when working with the Text-Column Formatting - Left#n form where it might not be convenient to revert back to the Chart Properties form's Rows/Swimlanes tab.

Swimlane Level Cell Width Adjustment in the Chart Properties Form

4) Again, for your convenience, there is an identical swimlane level cell width dial window provided in the Swimlane Formatting - Left#n form for each of the three (3) swimlane levels as shown below for the Left#3 text column:

P70-12 8 1-(3)-7082020.png
P70-12_8_1-(3)-7082020.png

5) Inn a fashion identical to the control in the Text-Column Formatting - Left#n form, this control is useful when working with the Swimlane Formatting - Left#n form where it might not be convenient to revert back to the Chart Properties form's Rows/Swimlanes tab.

Examples

6) The chart below is configured with each swimlane level cell and each text column cell set to width 0.95 to show how their contents look in a narrow horizontal space:

P70-12 8 1-(4)-7082020.png
P70-12_8_1-(4)-7082020.png

7) In the illustration above, two of the swimlane levels and the single text column appear to have crowded labels.

Changing Swimlane Level Cell Widths - Example

8) This can be remedied in the Chart Properties form for the Left#2 and Left#3 swimlane level cells by using the Width dial window to increase the value to 1.50 as shown below:

P70-12 8 1-(5)-7082020.png
P70-12_8_1-(5)-7082020.png

9) In a similar manner the width of the Left#3 swimlane level cells are increased from 0.95 to 1.50 as shown here:

P70-12 8 1-(6)-7082020.png
P70-12_8_1-(6)-7082020.png

Changing Text Column Widths - Example

9) Changing the crowded condition of the Left#3 text column cells follows similar steps involving the Width dial window found in the Text Columns controls group as shown below:

P70-12 8 1-(7)-7082020.png
P70-12_8_1-(7)-7082020.png

10) The illustration above show that it was necessary to increase all the Left#3 text column cells because the contents of the source plan's Name field for each imported task required more horizontal space so the width was increased to 3.00.

11) The same results can be achieve if, in each of the examples above, the Text-Column Formatting - Left#n form or the Swimlanes Formatting - Left#n form is used and their respective Width dial window values are changed.

Resizing the Width of Text Columns and Swimlane Labels

1) If you need more space for the content in your text columns or swimlane levels, you can resize them.

2) Hover your mouse over the vertical edge of the text column or swimlane level and left-click to drag it to the left or right:

P61-12 8 1-61-(1)-11022017.png
P61-12_8_1-61-(1)-11022017.png

3) As you resize the cell's width, the size of your overall OnePager document is adjusted accordingly.

4) Note that there can be an impact on the output formatting for multi-page charts.

Manually Resizing the Width of Multiple Text Columns

1) When you have multiple text columns showing in the chart, you can resize their width individually by using the procedure specified above.

a) The right border of the text column is used to resize the width of the text column to its immediate left.
b) Grabbing the text column's vertical right border and dragging the mouse to the left or right resizes only that text column.
c) Any text columns to the right of the one being resized is simply moved intact to the right to accommodate the resized text column.

2) The following shows how text columns, for example, can be widened to accommodate the text.

a) Here is a chart where the text column called Finish has insufficient width to display all the dates correctly:
P61-12 8 1-61-(1AA)-11022017.png
P61-12_8_1-61-(1AA)-11022017.png
b) By using the mouse left click on the right most border of the Finish text column and moving to the right we can widen the it to make room for the entire date as shown below:

Automatic Resizing of Swimlanes Labels and Text Columns

1) You can automatically resize the width of a swimlane label or text column by positioning the cursor on the right border of the swimlane label or text column and performing a double left-click when the double arrow cursor symbol appears.

2) Suppose we have the chart shown below where the swimlane label text and text column text are wrapped and you want to resize these columns so that the text fits without changing the text font:

P61-12_8_1-61-(2AA)-11022017.png

Automatically Resize Swimlane Label

3) To automatically resize the swimlane label, place the cursor on the right border of the swimlane as shown below and double left-click when the double arrow cursor symbol is displayed:

Automatically Resize An Text Column

4) In a similar way, you can resize any additional text columns by placing the cursor on its right border as shown below and double left-click when the double arrow cursor symbol is displayed:
