About Selecting Task Bars/Milestone Symbols and Task Bar Name Labels

OnePager provides several methods for selecting one or multiple task bars and/or milestone symbols and/or task bar name labels in order to make manual edits:

Selecting Task Bars/Milestone Symbols with the Left-Click

Single Task Bar/Milestone Symbol Selection

Select, using a left-click, a single task bar/milestone symbol in the graph, and notice that it receives a solid border selection box with two grab points (top and bottom) in the middle of the bar or symbol.

P70-9 1 1-70-(1)-06142019.png

Multiple Task Bar/Milestone Symbol Selections

Select multiple task bars/milestone symbols by holding down the Control key (CTRL) and then selecting several task bars or milestone symbols using successive left-clicks.

P70-9 1 1-70-(2)-06142019.png

Lasso Selection

You can also drag a selection lasso around a group of task bars/milestone symbols by first left-clicking the mouse in some empty area of the graph and then dragging the selection rectangle around a group of task bars/milestone symbols. Releasing the mouse left-click button selects the task bars/milestone symbols inside the lasso.

P70-9 1 1-70-(3)-06142019.png

Select All

Alternatively, go to the OnePager Home ribbon tool bar tab and click Select All button in the Editing group to select all task bars/milestone symbols on the screen. Then you can hold down the CTL key and deselect task bars that you do not want to select.

P70-9 1 1-70-(4)-06142019.png

Escape (Esc) Key

If you want to redo your task bar/milestone symbol selections, press the ESC key and OnePager deselects all previously selected task bars/milestone symbols.

Selecting Task Bar Name Labels with the Left-Click

With OnePager Pro and Express version 7.0, the selection actions for selecting task bars/milestone symbols and their task bar name labels is separated.

Single Task Bar Name Label Selection

Select, using a left-click, a single task bar name label in the graph and notice that the selected task bar name label becomes enclosed in a rectangle.

P70-9 1 1-70-(5)-06142019.png

Multiple Task Bar Name Label Selections

Select multiple task bar name labels by holding down the Control key (CTRL) and then selecting several task bar name labels using successive left-clicks.

P70-9 1 1-70-(6)-06142019.png

For the task bar right-click context menu, the commands behave exactly the same as in previous versions of OnePager. Right-clicking on the task bar name label accesses the task bar name label right-click context menu as shown below:

P70-9 1 1-(8)-05152020.png

For the task bar name label right-click context menu, there are four (4) commands in the context menu:

  • Edit task name… to access the Enter text form
  • Re-optimize text collisions to have OnePager attempt to resolve task bar name label text collisions in the graph
  • Unwrap text to unwrap task bar name label text strings that were wrapped as part of the task bar name label text collision avoidance process and,
  • Format… to access the Change Task/Milestone Properties form at the Task Label tab.

The Edit task name… and the Format… commands both behave as in previous versions of OnePager when selected with a right-click in the text label.

For more information on Changing individual task bar/milestone symbol properties, please see the article at: Changing Individual Task/Milestone Properties (Color, Shapes, Labels, etc.)

Making the Task Bar/Milestone Symbol Left-Click Selection Select Both the Task Bar and Task Bar Name Label in One Left Click

OnePager 7.0 provides a control for you to change the response that a left-click on a task bar has by allowing a single left-click on the task bar to select both the task bar and its corresponding task bar name label. The control is called the Select associated text checkbox and is found in the Template Properties and Chart Properties form’s Advanced tab in the Display options control group as shown below for the Chart Properties form:

P70-9 1 1-(11)-05152020.png

If you mouse over this checkbox, the following tool tip appears: When the task/milestone shape is selected, also select all text associated with the shape, including the task name, dates, and percent complete labels. As with all tool tips they are provided to assist you in determining what the control basically does. As an example, the illustration below is a chart portion where there was a left-click on the task bar only when the Select associated text checkbox is checked OFF.

P70-0 4 2 3-70-(12)-06122019.png

Left-clicking the task bar only selects the task bar as shown above. When the task bar is selected in the above example, only the Icons on the Home ribbon tool bar tab that are applicable to editing task bars are enabled. The enabled control groups are: Editing, Settings, Font, and Format. Even with the Select associated text checkbox checked OFF, left-clicks on the task bar still allow you to change Font properties but not task bar name label position. You can change task bar name label alignment if the task bar name label is configured such that task bar name label alignment changes are available.

However, in the situation described above, where one or more task bars are left-clicked with the Select associated text checkbox checked OFF, you can right-click on any of the selected task bars, access their normal right-click context menu, and use all the commands in the right-click context menu as well as all the tabs available in the Change Task/Milestone Properties form accessed from the Format… command. Additionally, you can access the Change Task/Milestone Properties form by clicking the Format… Icon on the Home ribbon tool bar tab as shown below:

P70-9 1 1-(13)-05152020.png

To complete the example, the illustration below is a chart portion where the Select associated text checkbox is checked ON, and the task bar is selected with a left-click:

P70-0 4 2 3-70-(14)-06122019.png

With the Select associated text checkbox checked ON, a left-click on the task bar selects the task shape and its task bar name label as shown above. When the task bar and task bar name label are selected in the above example, ALL Icons on the Home ribbon tool bar tab that are applicable to editing task bars and task bar name labels are enabled. The applicable control groups are: Editing, Settings, Font, Format, and Position. The Alignment control group is only enabled if there is an option available to re-align the task bar name label or labels for selected items. Essentially, checking the Select associated text checkbox ON makes the OnePager behavior relative to left-clicking of task bars or task bar name labels operate the same as left-clicking only the task bar in previous versions of OnePager. You can right-click on either the task bar or task bar name label in this situation and the appropriate right-click context menu is accessed and all associated commands operate as documented including gaining access to the Change Task/Milestone Properties form. OnePager, regardless of the status of the Select associated text status of checked ON or checked OFF, permits you to right-click on any previously selected task bar or task bar name label and accesses any of the right-click context menu commands.
