About Legend Editing
About Template Properties Form Only Features
The Legend can be shown or hidden in the chart as described in this article: Managing the Legend in the Chart <!--15.1.1-70-->
+
Because the Template Properties and Chart Properties forms are similar, this article only covers the areas of the Template Properties form that are different from the Chart Properties form.

Additionally, the above article reference describes on how to move and resize the Legend in the chart.
+
For more information on Template Properties and Chart Properties forms, please see the articles at: Core Concepts (Portal) <!--4.0.1-70--> and Templates versus Charts <!--4.3.1-70-->

Further, Legend positioning options are discussed in the article at: Legend Position Options for Multi-Page Outputs <!--15.2.1-70-->
+
You should familiarize yourself with the Chart Properties form before reading this article.

The purpose of this article is to describe:

:3) Editing the Legend in the chart with the Legend’s context menu
+
Chronicle Graphics, Inc. ships/distributes OnePager Pro (OPP) with one pre-defined permanent Template Properties forms that you cannot accidentally delete.  The permanent Template Properties form has the word Permanent in its name.  The permanent Template Properties form cannot be edited hence all the control features on each tab are disabled.

:4) Editing individual Legend items with their context menu.
+
Metric Versus Non-Metric
Legend Global Editing
+
Within a Template Properties form there are settings which are distance measures that must be considered when building the chart.  These include the height of individual rows, the height of the percent-complete bar within a task bar, and the like.

Global settings for the Legend are found in the Template Properties form’s Legend tab as shown below:
+
OnePager supports two measurement conventions:  (1) English (inches) and (2) Metric (centimeters).  For convenience, you can identify a Metric based Template Properties form because the word (metric) is included in the title.  And these two sets of Template Properties forms are separated by default into English and a Metric sub-folder of the default Templates folder.

Template Properties Form's Main Tab
<!--<center>X70-15_3_2-70-(1-1)-09162020.png</center>-->
+

As shown above, the controls in the Legend tab are enabled when the Show legend checkbox is checked ON.  Otherwise, all the controls in the Legend tab are disabled.
+
The Main tab of the Template Properties form differs slightly from the Chart Properties form.

Above are the default setting for the Legend provided with all distributed Templates Properties for OnePager Express.  Making edits to these settings impacts the Legend’s properties for all charts created with the edited Template Properties form.  These Legend settings are carried forward to the Chart Properties form for all charts created with the associated Template Properties form and its settings in the Legend tabSince the controls shown above for the Template Properties form’s Legend tab are identical to the controls for the Legend tab in the Chart Properties form, discussion of each control is focused on the Chart Properties form’s Legend tab in the section that follows.
+
The Template Properties form does not have entry controls for the Start date, End date, Title, because dates are systematically produced by OnePager based on the earliest start date and latest finish dates in your source plan dataThe Title is something you designate as you create the new chart with the OnePager choices (OPC) form.

The Legend tab for the Chart Properties form looks like this:
+
The Colors control group provides access to the Color Palette controls for creating and editing Color Palettes.  Additionally, the Colors control group contains all the controls for setting the Chart Background and access to the Set line properties form and its sub-tabs through the Borders, frames, and time-cursor properties button shown here:

<center></center>

+
<!--<center>P70-24_1_1-70-(2)-11302020.png</center>-->

As with the Template Properties form’s Legend tab, the controls in the Chart Properties form’s Legend tab are not enabled and cannot be edited until the Show legend checkbox is checked ON.  In the sub-sections that follow, each of the control groups and controls are discussed in detail.
+
The controls for Row Borders can be found in the Template Properties form's Rows/Swimlanes tab at each of the three sub-tabs in the Swimlanes control group.  For more information on Row Borders, please see the article at:  Row and Swimlane Borders <!--12.04.1-70-->

Layout Control Group
+
The Task Selection control group provides a convenient place in the Template Properties form for you to preset the method you want to use for importing task/milestone information from your Microsoft Project source plan.

The Layout control group consists of two (2) radio buttons that position the Legend either vertically in the chart or horizontally in the chart.  The default setting is Vertical and OnePager positions the Legend, when shown, in the upper right corner of the graph.  The illustration below shows the Legend with the Horizontal radio button selected.
+
Template Properties Form's Time Axis Tab
<center></center>
+
The Time Axis tab provides additional Time Axis creation and editing capabilities and centralizes all time axis related controls at one Template Properties form tab. The same intent is true for the Chart Properties form's Time Axis tab. The Time Axis tab for the OnePager Pro Template form is shown below:
<!--<center>X70-15_3_2-70-(3)-10142019.png</center>-->
+

OnePager initially positions the Horizontal Legend at the bottom of the graph. You can perform all the re-positioning, resizing, and editing operations on the Horizontal Legend as are available for the Vertical Legend.  Additionally, the Horizontal Legend’s context menu can be accesses as well as each individual Legend Item’s context menu and all allowable edits can be made.  The Horizontal Legend can be reconfigured to the Vertical Legend at any time and any edits made to the Horizontal Legend are retained in the Vertical Legend.

Legend-Item and Legend-Title Font Editing Controls
+
The controls in the Time Axis tab are identical to those in the Chart Properties form's Time Axis tab.  For more information on the Time Axis tab, please see the article at:  Modifying the Time Axis (Portal) <!--22.0.1-70-->

There are two sets of controls for editing font properties of the Legend-items and Legend-title.  For both sets of controls, clicking the dropdown button in the window to the immediate right of the control’s label access the standard Font properties form as shown below:
+
Template Properties Form's Rows/Swimlanes Tab
<center></center>
+
The Rows/Swimlanes tab provides additional Rows/Swimlanes creation and editing capabilities and centralizes all rows and swimlanes related controls at one Template Properties form tab. The same intent is true for the Chart Properties form's Time Axis tab.  The Rows/Swimlanes tab for the OnePager Pro Template Properties form is shown below:
<!--<center>X70-15_3_2-70-(4-1)-09162020.png</center>-->
+

There are six (6) controls in the Font properties form shown above which are standard in most applications involving text editing.

Template Properties Form's Task Links Tab
:2)  The Size control is a dial window where you can either click up or down or type in a desired font size integer value.
+
The Task Links tab in OnePager Pro provides the capability to preset properties for Data-Driven and manual Task Links before a chart is created.

:3) Clicking the Color dropdown accesses the standard Color Chooser form.

:4)  The Bold button is a toggle that sets the selected text string as Bold text.
+
Of importance is the Show task links checkbox in the Default Task-Link Formatting control group shown above.  This checkbox acts as a Master Switch enabling the Task Links feature in OnePager Pro.

:5)  The Italics button, also a toggle, sets the selected text string as Italic text.
+
The Import predecessors checkbox is unchecked or OFF in OnePager Pro distributed Template Properties forms.  This avoids an initial cluttering of the chart if there are a large number of dependencies imported from the Microsoft Project source plan.  This approach also gives you full control over the Task Link import process from the chart.  The controls in the Task Links tab are identical to those in the Chart Properties form's Task Links tab.

:6)  The Underline button operates as a toggle that sets the selected text strings Underline.
+
For more information on the Chart Properties form's Task Links tab, please see the article at:  Editing Task Links with the Chart Properties Form for OnePager Pro <!--19.3.1-70-->

Legend Position Controls
Template Properties Form's Advanced Tab
The Legend position control group consists of a dropdown selection list and eight (8) radio buttons.  The four (4) selection options for the dropdown list as shown below:
+
The Advanced tab is shown below.  Most of these parameters in the Template Properties form are identical to those appearing in the Chart Properties form.

Lock Background Checkbox Not Available
Legend Width and Height Resizing Controls
+
In the Template Properties Form’s Advanced tab there is no Lock background checkbox in the Display options group.  This is an option available after the chart is created.

There two (2) controls are for editing the width and length of the Legend box in the chart as shown below:
+
Configuring Multi-Project Imports
<center></center>
+
One key difference between the Template Properties form and Chart Properties form is the ability to use the Template Properties form to configure a multi-project import without the use of some sort of Microsoft Project Integrated Master Schedule (IMS).
<!--<center>X70-15_3_2-70-(5A-2)-09162020.png</center>-->

Legend resizing using the controls in the Legend tab of the Chart Properties form is done exactly like using the corresponding controls for the Comment box at the Chart Properties form's Comment Boxes tab.
+
For more information on the Safely combine tasks from different files, please see this section in the article at: Safely Combine Tasks From Different Files <!--24.1.1-70-->

Given the similarity, detailed instructions for using the resizing controls shown for the Comment box can be found in this section in the article at:  Creating and Managing Comment Boxes-Box Size Controls for Comment Boxes <!--13.0.1-70-->

The Background color controls for the Legend are positioned below the Width and Height controls shown in the illustration above.  Clicking the window’s dropdown button accesses the standard Color Chooser form.  You can use the standard Color Chooser form to select a background color for the Legend as well as use employ the No fill feature to give the Legend an appearance of transparency.  As with resizing the Legend, the controls and approach for using the No fill feature is the same as the approach for Comment boxes.
+
Safely Combine Tasks From Different Files Checkbox
Detailed instructions for using the No fill controls shown for the Comment box can be found in this section in the article at:  Creating and Managing Comment Boxes-Using the No fill Feature <!--13.0.1-70-->
+
Checking this checkbox to ON puts any charts created with this Template Properties form into the Multi-File-Multi-Project Mode. The Multi-File-Multi-Project Mode is specifically designed to support users who want to create Multi-Project charts from independent Microsoft Project source plans without creating a Microsoft Project Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) prior to creating the chart.  This is an advanced feature and when used, OnePager numbers task bars and milestone symbols imported from the various Microsoft Project source plans accessed differently than when only a single project source plan is imported.

Controlling Duplication of Legend Items
+
This is done so that OnePager can support the creation of subsequent snapshots for the Multi-File-Multi-Project chart in the future.  Once you adopted this scheme for the chart being created, it is not possible to update the chart in the future in the default Single-File-Single-Project Mode.  To enforce this requirement, the OPP’s Chart Properties form’s Advanced tab shows the Safely combine tasks from different files checkbox but the command is disabled.

The OnePager Legend can show all task bars and milestone symbols even if several of them have the same Color and Shape.  This often resulted in unnecessarily busy-looking Legends.   There is a control in the Template Properties and Chart Properties forms at the Legend tab giving you a checkbox to specifically tell OnePager Do not duplicate task/milestones items in the Legend regardless of their differences in color and/or shape.   This is shown in the Chart Properties form’s Legend tab below:
+
<center></center>

Template Properties Form's Field Mappings Tab
<!--<center>X70-15_3_2-70-(6-1)-09162020.png</center>-->
+

As an example, the Legend below shows both a green milestone symbol item and red task bar with the Do not duplicate tasks/milestones checkbox checked OFF:
+
The Field Mappings tab in the Template Properties form for OnePager Pro looks like this:

<center></center>
+
<center></center>
<!--<center>X70-15_3_2-70-(7)-10142019.png</center>-->
+
<!--<center>P70-24_1_1-70-(8)-11302020.png</center>-->

When the checkbox is checked ON, only the task bar for each color appears in the Legend.  Legend items for milestone symbols can be suppressed by checking the Do not duplicate tasks/milestones checkbox is checked ON as shown below:
+
Basic and Date Mappings
<center></center>
+
OnePager uses source fields for many purposes : (1) displaying task names, (2) displaying start dates, (3) assigning colors to tasks, and (4) grouping rows into swimlanes.
<!--<center>X70-15_3_2-70-(8)-10142019.png</center>-->
+

On occasion, it can become necessary when checking the Do not duplicate tasks/milestones checkbox On and Off to right-click on the Legend and then click the Rebuild Legend command in the context menu as shown below:
+
The use of a source field for a purpose is called a field mapping.  The eight (8) dropdown lists shown above that are pre-set to important field mappings that are collected in the Field Mappings tab page.  The other field mappings are on the Rows/Swimlanes, Task Bars, and Milestone Symbols tab pages of the Template Properties form.  Some field mappings (e.g. percent-complete) appear both here and on other Template Properties form tab pages.

<center></center>
+
The Field Mappings tab in the Template Properties form is also available in the Chart Properties form.  Each dropdown list contains the source fields that have the correct data type(s) for the  purpose.  For example, in the Basic Mappings control group, the Critical-path field dropdown contains only Boolean and numeric fields from Microsoft Project. And the dropdown lists in the Date Mappings control group contain only Microsoft Project date fields.  These mappings are useful if your standard field usage differs and you want to avoid having to constantly make the changes on the second page of OnePager choices (OPC) form shown below:
<center>P70-15_3_1-70-(9)-10102019.png</center>-->
+

Performing this action tells OnePager to re-scan the graph and rebuild the Legend to assure that the appearance of the Legend corresponds to the information displayed in the Chart Editor.

Make Title Automatically and Legend Title
+
For more information on the Field Mappings feature, please see this section in the article at:  Field Mappings Tab for OnePager Pro - Basic Mappings <!--21.15.1-70-->

The Make title automatically checkbox, when checked ON (the default setting), tells OnePager to automatically generate the Legend title based on the Microsoft Excel source plan field name selected for Task Bar/Milestone Fill Color on the Task Bars or Milestone tabs on the Chart Properties form shown here:
+
Task Bar/Milestone Symbol Identity Mapping
<center></center>
+
The Task/Milestone Identity Mapping control group lets you select a Microsoft Project field that can be used to uniquely identifies each task bar.  Uniquely identifying each task bar or milestone symbol is always important when you plan to update your chart later on, but you normally do not need to change this field mapping because the default mapping works just fine.  OnePager uses the Microsoft Project  Unique Id field to identify each task in the source plan, enabling preservation of each task bar’s color, labeling, and vertical location as you import new or modified data in later updates of the chart.
<!--<center>X70-15_3_2-70-(10-1)-09162020.png</center>-->
+

When the checkbox is checked OFF, as shown below, the Legend title window under the Make title automatically checkbox is enabled and you can enter any desired Legend title for the Legend box displayed in the chart.
+
For source plans that are Microsoft Project .MPP files, the default mapping is to the Microsoft Project Unique ID field.  When the source plan resides on Microsoft Project Server or Microsoft Project Online and you import directly from the server, the default mapping change automatically to the Microsoft Project GUID field.  If you opt to change the Unique Id mapping away from these reliable defaults, make sure that the new source field has a unique value for each task bar or milestone symbol.  Keep in mind that once you create a chart with a Unique Id mapping, it is nearly impossible to change your mind about how task shapes are to be identified.    Change this mapping away from the default only if you have a good reason to do so and are sure that the field contains no duplicate values.

<center></center>
+
To map an alternate Unique Id field, use the dropdown menu shown in the illustration below:
<!--<center>X70-15_3_2-70-(11-1)-09162020.png</center>-->
+

If the above illustrated edits are applied, the Legend looks like this:
+
<center></center>
 +
<!--<center>P70-24_1_1-70-(10)-11302020.png</center>-->

<center></center>
+
When  changing to an alternate Unique Id field, OnePager will display a warning message as follows:
<!--<center>X70-15_3_2-70-(12)-10142019.png</center>-->
+

If the Make title automatically checkbox is subsequently rechecked ON, the Legend title window is disabled. Its edited contents may remain in the window and the title of the Legend in the chart reverts to the Legend title selected for Task Bar/Milestone Fill Color on the Task Bars or Milestone tabs on the Chart Properties form as shown here:
+

The Make title automatically checkbox and the Legend title window are disabled on the Template form’s Legend tab.
+
Field Splitting
Show Legend On: Control Group
+
The Field Splitting control group lets you split each task into a set of nearly-duplicate task shapes based upon a comma-separated list of values in some source plan field.  For example, you could split a task that had three Resource Names assigned to it into three almost-identical task shapes that differ only in their value of Resource Name.  Once you create a chart with field splitting turned On, it is not possible to change your mind and go back to unsplit task shapes for that chart or change to a different field for the splitting.

The Show legend on: control group is provided to give you specific control over where the Legend is to appear on multi-page outputs. The default setting in the Template Properties and Chart Properties form’s Legend tab is All pages. You can click the Pages radio button in the control group to enable the entry of specific output page numbers or series of page numbers in the window to the immediate right of the radio button.

Legend Context Menu
+

+
Once the Legend is displayed in the chart, a right click in a white space area accesses the Legend context menu as shown here:
+

+
<center></center>

+
Legend Context Menu Commands
+

+
The Legend context menu allows you to make adjustments to the overall format of the Legend itself with the following controls:
+

+
Hide Legend
+

+
Clicking the Hide legend command causes the Legend to disappear from the chart no matter where the Legend happens to be positioned.    To retrieve the Legend, go to the OnePager View ribbon tool bar tab and check the Legend checkbox in the Graphic Elements group ON.  You can also go to the Chart Properties form’s Legend tab and check the Show legend checkbox ON.
+

+
Unhide All Items
+

+
The Unhide all items command is disabled unless one or more Legend items in the displayed Legend are hidden.  When the Unhide all items command is enabled, clicking the command makes all previously hidden Legend items visible again.
+

+
Rebuild Legend
+

+
The Rebuild Legend command tells OnePager to scan the chart and rebuild the Legend from scratch, incorporating any changes that were made to specific task bars/milestone symbol's properties.  This is normally not necessary, but can be used if you think that the Legend has gotten out of sync with what is currently in the chart.
+

+
Edit Legend Title …
+

+
This command accesses Enter text form that  lets you edit the Legend’s title as shown below:
+

+
<center></center>
+
<!--<center>X70-15_3_2-70-(20)-10142019.png</center>-->
+

+
Title Font…
+

+
Title font…  This command access the OnePager standard Font properties form shown below that lets you edit the six (6) font properties of the Legend title:
+

+
<center></center>
+
<!--<center>X70-15_3_2-70-(21)-10142019.png</center>-->
+

+
Item Font…
+

+
This command also accesses the OnePager standard Font properties form shown above that lets you edit the six (6) font properties of all Legend item text appearing in the Legend (as opposed to the Legend’s title).  When edits are made using the OnePager standard Font properties form, all displayed text Legend items are edited.
+

+
Background Color…
+

+
This commands accesses the OnePager standard Color Chooser form that lets you select the background color for the Legend.  In addition to being able to use any color palette or color, you have the option to use the No fill feature for the Legend’s background.
+

+
Order
+

+
Clicking the Order command displays an additional sub-context menu as shown below:
+

+
<center></center>
+
<!--<center>X70-15_3_2-70-(22)-10142019.png</center>-->
+

+
The sub-context menu for the Order command allows you to select any of the four (4) sub-commands that create the following results:
+

+
:1) Bring to front.  This sub-command puts the Legend in front of all other shapes in the chart.
+

+
:2) Send to back.  This sub-command puts the Legend behind all other foreground shapes in the chart (but not behind background shapes).
+

+
:3) Bring forward.  Selecting the Bring forward sub-command option steps the Legend’s Z-Axis position forward by one increment of Z-level.  This is not very useful.
+

+
:4) Send backward.  This sub-command steps the Legend backward by one Z-level.  This also is not very useful.
+

+
Editing Legend Items with the Legend Item Context Menu
+

+
Editing All Task Bars/Milestone Symbols in the Chart from the Legend
+

+
When the Legend and Legend items are displayed in the chart, a right click on a specific Legend item’s text or color bar accesses the legend right-click context menu as shown here:
+

+
<center></center>
+
<!--<center>X70-15_3_2-70-(23-1)-09162020.png</center>-->
+

+
You can also access the Edit Legend Item form by double-left clicking the color bar.
+

+
Edit Legend Item Form
+

+
The Edit Legend Item form has seven (7) specific controls for editing the Legend item’s text, the task bars/milestone symbol’s color, shape, and the position of the Legend item in the list of Legend items in the Legend as shown in more close up below:
+

+
<center></center>
+
<!--<center>X70-15_3_2-70-(24)-10142019.png</center>-->
+

+
Show Legend Item Checkbox
+

+
This checkbox is checked ON as the Legend item is shown and can thereby access the Edit Legend item form.  Checking the checkbox OFF hides the selected Legend item after the OK button at the bottom of the form is clicked.  To restore the hidden Legend item to visibility, you must access the Legend’s context menu as described in the previous section and click the Unhide all items command which is enabled in this circumstance.
+

+
Legend Text Window
+

+
When the form is accessed, the Legend text window contains the Legend text associated with the selected Legend item.  To change the text content, type in the new Legend item text and either continue to edit or click OK to apply the change to the selected Legend item.
+

+
Color
+

+
Clicking the dropdown button on the Color control accesses the standard Color Chooser form which is used to change the color of all task bars/milestone symbols in the chart associated with the selected Legend item.  Making an edit of the color in this way updates the color of all task bar/milestone symbols associated with the selected Legend item in the current snapshot, historical snapshots, and all future snapshots where the associated task bar/milestone symbol appears.  Some care needs to be exercised when using the No fill checkbox on the standard OnePager Color Chooser as checking the No fill checkbox ON makes the task bar/milestone symbol essentially transparent.
+

+
To illustrate this, suppose that the Prime Legend item’s color bar is double-left clicked to access the Edit Legend Item form and the Color dropdown button is clicked to access the Color Chooser form where the No fill checkbox is checked as shown below:
+

+
<center></center>
+
<!--<center>X70-15_3_2-70-(24A-1)-09162020.png</center>-->
+

+
After you check the No fill checkbox ON the Color Chooser form disappears.  With the action taken in the Color Chooser form, click the OK button on the Edit Legend Item form and the Prime task bars in the chart look like this:
+

+
<center></center>
+
<!--<center>X70-15_3_2-70-(24B-1)-09162020.png</center>-->
+

+
As a note,  unchecking the No fill checkbox to OFF is a three step process described in this section in the article at:  Using the No Fill Option of the Color Chooser on Task/Milestone Fill Colors <!--9.2.1-70-->
+

+
Marker Symbols for Task Bars
+

+
If you select a task bar’s Legend item, the list of available shapes in the Marker Symbol window scroll list consists of those shapes associated with task bars as shown below:
+

+
<center></center>
+
<!--<center>X70-15_3_2-70-(24)-10142019.png</center>-->
+

+
Marker Symbols for Milestones
+

+
If you select a milestone symbol Legend item, the list of available shapes in the Marker Symbol window scroll list consists of those symbols associated with milestones as shown below:
+

+
<center></center>
+
<!--<center>X70-15_3_2-70-(25)-10142019.png</center>-->
+

+
Sequence
+

+
The Sequence set of controls consist of an up arrow button, a down arrow button, and a window for the integer number position of the selected Legend item in the list.  If the selected Legend item is the top most Legend item in the list, the up arrow button is disabled because the selected Legend item cannot be moved further up in the list.  If the selected Legend item is the bottom most Legend item in the list, the down arrow button is disabled because the selected Legend item cannot be moved further down in the list.  For any selected Legend item not occupying either a top or bottom position in the list, both up and down arrow buttons are enabled.
+

+
Clicking the up arrow button once moves the selected Legend item up one position in the list and decrements the value in the integer number window by one.  The action is applied to the Legend when you click the OK button at the bottom of the Edit Legend Item form.
+

+
In a similar fashion, clicking the down arrow button once moves the selected Legend item down one position in the list and increments the value in the integer number window by one.  The action is applied to the Legend when you click the OK button at the bottom of the Edit Legend Item form.  You can observe the position of any selected Legend item in the list by consulting the integer number in the window between the up and down arrow buttons.  Whenever the position of a selected Legend item changes in the list, the value of the integer number in the window is updated.
+

+
Editing a Single Task Bar/Milestone Symbol in the Chart and the Legend
+

+
Manually Editing A Single Task Bar
+

+
You can edit a single task bar/milestone symbol in the chart using the Change Task/Milestone Properties form as described in the article at: Changing Individual Task/Milestone Properties (Color, Shapes, Labels, etc.) <!--9.2.1-70-->
+

+
Some edits to individual task bar/milestone symbol properties can add entries to the Legend if the edit involves a change in color or shape.
+

+
Example
+

+
For example, suppose we select a single task bar in the chart with a left click and then click the Format… button on the OnePager Home ribbon tool bar tab to access the Change Task/Milestone Properties form as shown below:
+

+
<center></center>
+
<!--<center>X70-15_3_2-70-(24C-1)-09162020.png</center>-->
+

+
Legend Updated
+

+
After making the desired task bar edit, click the OK button on the Change Task/Milestone Properties form and the chart and the Legend looks like this:
+

+
<center></center>
+
<!--<center>X70-15_3_2-70-(24D-1)-09162020.png</center>-->
+

+
The single selected task bar exhibits its new shape and an entry for that shape is added to the Legend as a new Legend item.
+

+
For a more detailed description of other options, please see the section in the article at: Changing Individual Task/Milestone Shapes <!--9.2.1-70-->

About Template Properties Form Only Features

Because the Template Properties and Chart Properties forms are similar, this article only covers the areas of the Template Properties form that are different from the Chart Properties form.

For more information on Template Properties and Chart Properties forms, please see the articles at: Core Concepts (Portal) and Templates versus Charts

You should familiarize yourself with the Chart Properties form before reading this article.

For more information on the Chart Properties form, please see the article at: Editing with the Chart Properties form (Portal)

A Few Words On Template Properties Forms

Permanent Template Properties Forms

Chronicle Graphics, Inc. ships/distributes OnePager Pro (OPP) with one pre-defined permanent Template Properties forms that you cannot accidentally delete. The permanent Template Properties form has the word Permanent in its name. The permanent Template Properties form cannot be edited hence all the control features on each tab are disabled.

Metric Versus Non-Metric

Within a Template Properties form there are settings which are distance measures that must be considered when building the chart. These include the height of individual rows, the height of the percent-complete bar within a task bar, and the like.

The Main tab of the Template Properties form differs slightly from the Chart Properties form.

The Template Properties form does not have entry controls for the Start date, End date, Title, because dates are systematically produced by OnePager based on the earliest start date and latest finish dates in your source plan data. The Title is something you designate as you create the new chart with the OnePager choices (OPC) form.

P70-24 0 1-70-(2)-11302020.png

The Colors control group provides access to the Color Palette controls for creating and editing Color Palettes. Additionally, the Colors control group contains all the controls for setting the Chart Background and access to the Set line properties form and its sub-tabs through the Borders, frames, and time-cursor properties button shown here:

P70-24 1 1-70-(2)-11302020.png

The controls for Row Borders can be found in the Template Properties form's Rows/Swimlanes tab at each of the three sub-tabs in the Swimlanes control group. For more information on Row Borders, please see the article at: Row and Swimlane Borders

The Task Selection control group provides a convenient place in the Template Properties form for you to preset the method you want to use for importing task/milestone information from your Microsoft Project source plan.

Template Properties Form's Time Axis Tab

The Time Axis tab provides additional Time Axis creation and editing capabilities and centralizes all time axis related controls at one Template Properties form tab. The same intent is true for the Chart Properties form's Time Axis tab. The Time Axis tab for the OnePager Pro Template form is shown below:

P70-24 1 1-70-(3)-11302020.png

The controls in the Time Axis tab are identical to those in the Chart Properties form's Time Axis tab. For more information on the Time Axis tab, please see the article at: Modifying the Time Axis (Portal)

Template Properties Form's Rows/Swimlanes Tab

The Rows/Swimlanes tab provides additional Rows/Swimlanes creation and editing capabilities and centralizes all rows and swimlanes related controls at one Template Properties form tab. The same intent is true for the Chart Properties form's Time Axis tab. The Rows/Swimlanes tab for the OnePager Pro Template Properties form is shown below:

P70-24 1 1-70-(4)-11302020.png

For more information on the Rows/Swimlanes tab, please see the articles at: Creating and Editing Rows and Swimlanes (Portal)

Template Properties Form's Task Links Tab

The Task Links tab in OnePager Pro provides the capability to preset properties for Data-Driven and manual Task Links before a chart is created.

P70-24 1 1-70-(5)-11302020.png

Of importance is the Show task links checkbox in the Default Task-Link Formatting control group shown above. This checkbox acts as a Master Switch enabling the Task Links feature in OnePager Pro.

For more information on the Chart Properties form's Task Links tab, please see the article at: Editing Task Links with the Chart Properties Form for OnePager Pro

Template Properties Form's Advanced Tab

The Advanced tab is shown below. Most of these parameters in the Template Properties form are identical to those appearing in the Chart Properties form.

P70-24 1 1-70-(6)-11302020.png

Lock Background Checkbox Not Available

In the Template Properties Form’s Advanced tab there is no Lock background checkbox in the Display options group. This is an option available after the chart is created.

Configuring Multi-Project Imports

One key difference between the Template Properties form and Chart Properties form is the ability to use the Template Properties form to configure a multi-project import without the use of some sort of Microsoft Project Integrated Master Schedule (IMS).

For more information on the Safely combine tasks from different files, please see this section in the article at: Safely Combine Tasks From Different Files

Additional information is available on creating Multi-Project charts at:

Basic Workflows (Portal)
Creating Various Multi-Charts with OnePager Pro and Express (Portal)

Safely Combine Tasks From Different Files Checkbox

Checking this checkbox to ON puts any charts created with this Template Properties form into the Multi-File-Multi-Project Mode. The Multi-File-Multi-Project Mode is specifically designed to support users who want to create Multi-Project charts from independent Microsoft Project source plans without creating a Microsoft Project Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) prior to creating the chart. This is an advanced feature and when used, OnePager numbers task bars and milestone symbols imported from the various Microsoft Project source plans accessed differently than when only a single project source plan is imported.

Template Properties Form's Field Mappings Tab

The Field Mappings tab in the Template Properties form for OnePager Pro looks like this:

P70-24 1 1-70-(8)-11302020.png

Basic and Date Mappings

OnePager uses source fields for many purposes : (1) displaying task names, (2) displaying start dates, (3) assigning colors to tasks, and (4) grouping rows into swimlanes.

P70-24 1 1-70-(9)-11302020.png

For more information on the Field Mappings feature, please see this section in the article at: Field Mappings Tab for OnePager Pro - Basic Mappings

Task Bar/Milestone Symbol Identity Mapping

The Task/Milestone Identity Mapping control group lets you select a Microsoft Project field that can be used to uniquely identifies each task bar. Uniquely identifying each task bar or milestone symbol is always important when you plan to update your chart later on, but you normally do not need to change this field mapping because the default mapping works just fine. OnePager uses the Microsoft Project Unique Id field to identify each task in the source plan, enabling preservation of each task bar’s color, labeling, and vertical location as you import new or modified data in later updates of the chart.

To map an alternate Unique Id field, use the dropdown menu shown in the illustration below:

P70-24 1 1-70-(10)-11302020.png

When changing to an alternate Unique Id field, OnePager will display a warning message as follows:

P70-24 1 1-70-(11)-11302020.png

For more information on the Task/Milestone Identity Mapping feature, please see this section in the article at: Field Mappings Tab for OnePager Pro - Task/Milestone Identity Mapping. 21.15.1-70

Field Splitting

The Field Splitting control group lets you split each task into a set of nearly-duplicate task shapes based upon a comma-separated list of values in some source plan field. For example, you could split a task that had three Resource Names assigned to it into three almost-identical task shapes that differ only in their value of Resource Name. Once you create a chart with field splitting turned On, it is not possible to change your mind and go back to unsplit task shapes for that chart or change to a different field for the splitting.
