Summary of Conditional Formatting Rule Actions
The purpose of this article is to summarize the discussion on telling OnePager what actions to take when a rule does apply. For this purpose, there are six (6) fields that you can set to format the tasks/milestones. These fields are described in the table below, which gives the name of the field, a description of the allowable options, and how you specify the formatting action to take:
Conditional Formatting Feature | Description | Instructions |
---|---|---|
Color | If the condition is true, apply the selected fill color to the task/milestone. If the condition is not true, retain the default color for the task/milestone. | Click the color dropdown to pop up the color palette. |
Task Bar Shape | If the condition is true, use the selected shape to represent the task. If the condition is not true, the task retains its default shape. | Click the task shape dropdown to pop up the task shape palette. |
Milestone Shape | If the condition is true, use the selected shape to represent the milestone. If
the condition is not true, the milestone retails its default shape. |
Click the milestone shape dropdown to pop up the milestone shape palette. |
Height | The height of the task/milestone in the rule is expressed as a percentage of row height. If the condition is true, resize the task/milestone to the specified height. If the condition is not true, the task/milestone retains the global default height. | Any positive number may be used. |
Border | The border properties of the task/milestone in the rule can be changed to the
values specified in the Border style rules form. If the condition is true, use the border properties specified in theBorder style rules form. If the condition is not true, use the default border properties for the task/milestone. |
Click the border dropdown to pop up the border palette. You may set the border’s color, width, and style (solid, dash, dot, etc.) |
Label Font | The task/milestone’s label font may be changed to the value specified in font selector. If the condition is true, use the label font specified. If the condition is not true, use the default label font. | Clicking the font cell will pop up the font selector. You may set the font face, color, size, and style (bold, italic, underline) |
==Ordering
The last column to the far right in the Conditional Formatting Rules window is the Ordering column. The ordering column controls the sequence in which the rules get applied. OnePager automatically assigns increasing numbers to the ordering column as rules are defined. If several rules are in competition to set a particular formatting property, the rule with the lowest ordering number has priority over all the others. You may change the value in the ordering column at any time after the rule is completely defined, and any numeric value is acceptable.
No Action Taken
When defining rules, any action field (e.g., color, task bar shape, milestone shape, borders, etc.) that is left blank is interpreted by OnePager as a no action, which amounts to retaining the default setting for that attribute. If you want to change an action into a no action, just check the “use default” box for the for the grid cell in question.
Number of Rules
You may apply the approach described above to define as many rules as required. When you are finished, click OK in the Conditional Formatting Rules form which will return you to your starting place in the Task Bar tab or the Milestones tab. Click the Apply button and or OK buttons in the Project-View Properties (PVP) form to have OnePager apply the rules to the project view. For the Template Properties form, click the Save and Use button to have OnePager applies these rules to any project view that is made from the template.
==Constrain on Fields Imported
As the number of columns (fields) imported from the Microsoft Excel plan increases, there may be a performance impact on OnePager. As a result, OnePager limits you to a maximum of eight Microsoft Excel plan columns in the conditional formatting rule set.
