This article overviews instructions on two methods for manually editing decorations for individual task barss/milestone symbols. The two (2) sub-sections below, we’ll briefly cover both methods:
+
At the top of the Change Text Element Order form there are four radio buttons. These radio buttons represent the four options available for ordering the three text elements with respect to their parent task bar/milestone symbolThese options are discussed below:

:1) Using the Chart Properties form to change all task bars/milestone symbol decoration properties, and
+
Order Text Element Left to Right
:2) the Format… commands available to modify the decoration properties of a single task bar/milestone symbol.
+
With left to right ordering, the first text element (identified in the Order windows in the lower portion of the form) appears to the left of the other text elements. This is the default ordering and is shown in the two illustrations above. This option is typically used when you position task bar/milestone symbol text elements in Label positions that are horizontally oriented such as Left, Right, Best fit left/right, and Best fit in task bar.

Using the Chart Properties Form To Edit Decorations
+
Order Top to Bottom
Decorations on all task bars/milestone symbols can be manually edited by using the Task Bars or Milestones tabs in the Chart Properties form. Using these controls you can edit the decoration properties in the current chart without changing any of the settings in the current Template Properties form. Doing so makes mavericks of all task bars/milestone symbols participating in the edit in the current chart.
+
The top to bottom ordering is typically used in situations where you want to keep the text elements compact horizontally. This option is typically used when you position task bar/milestone symbol text elements in Label positions such as Above, Below, Best fit above/below, and Best fit all directions. In many cases it is useful also to increase the height of the row so that sufficient room is provided for up to three text elements as shown below:

Mirror Format Settings Between Task Bars and Milestones
+

+

For convenience, we've added a checkbox titled Mirror format setting between task bars and milestones shown below:
+
As for an example, the chart portion looks like this with text element Label position remaining as Best fit left/right:

+

+

When this checkbox is checked ON, OnePager automatically makes any edits to Milestone symbols that are made to Task Bars for all settings where a blue dot appears to the right of the setting. This checkbox appears in both the Task Bar tab and the Milestones tab of the Chart Properties form and the corresponding tabs of the Template Properties form. The Milestones tab of the Chart Properties form is illustrated below:
+
Order Horizontal Inside to Outside
+
The third option radio button, when selected, orders text elements horizontally inside to outside. This means that the first text element is always closest to the task bar, the next text element is farther to the left or right, and the third text element is farthest to the left or right. This text element ordering option is best used when text elements are to appear in the chart in horizontal arrangements. This update to the Change Text Element Order form is shown below:

+

Task Bar and Milestones fill colors are always mirrored regardless of the Mirror... checkbox being checked ON or OFF.
+

+

Label Text Ordering Controls for Task Bars and Milestones
+
When this ordering is applied to the chart, it looks like this:

The Label text ordering control button is shown below:
+

+

+
Notice that regardless of the sequencing of the three text elements, the designated first text element is always closest to the task bar.

+

Label text ordering allows you to select the sequence in which task bar/milestone symbol labels, date labels, and percent complete values appear in the graph positioned next to their associated task bar/ milestone symbol. Clicking the Label text ordering button accesses the Change Text Element Order form containing the controls changing the sequence of these text elements and their orientation with respect to their associated task bar/milestone symbol from horizontal to vertical or vice versa. The Change Text Element form is shown below:
+
Order Vertically Inside to Outside
+
The last option radio button, when selected, orders text elements vertically inside to outside. This means that the first text element is always closest to the task bar, the next text element is farther away from the task bar, and the third text element is farthest away from the task bar in vertical orientation. This text element ordering option is best used when text elements are to appear in the chart in vertical arrangements and when text is placed above or below the task or milestone.

+

The controls for Label Text Ordering discussed above and provided in more detail at the link below applies to both OnePager Pro and OnePager Express.
+
To make an example that is different from the previous examples, we’ll modify the Change Text Element Order form to show Date Labels as the first text element in the ordering. The corresponding Change Text Element Order form is shown below:

Editing Individual Task Bar/Milestone Symbol Decorations in the Chart Editor
+
Text Element Order Sequencing
Decorations can be edited for individual task bars and milestone symbols (or selected groups of them) using the Change Task/Milestone Properties form. This form is accessed in two ways:
+
The lower portion of the Change Text Element Order form provides you with the controls to change the sequence of text elements as they are used in the four ordering options discussed in the previous sub-section. The default settings are:

Right-Clicking a Task Bar/Milestone Symbol or Task Bar Name Label
+
* Task/milestone label – First

Accessing the Change Task/Milestone Properties form with this method requires you to right-click on the task bar or milestone symbol or the task bar name label to access the right-click context menu for either. This action accesses the available commands in the right-click context menu when a task bar is right-clicked as shown below:
+
* Date label(s) – Second

+
* Percent Complete - Third

+

The Format... command can also be accessed by right-clicking a task bar's name label as shown here:
+
Changing the text element order sequence changes the order of text elements applied to the chart when one of the four ordering options is selected.

+

+
Relationship to Other Text Element Positioning Controls
Either way the Format... command is accessed in a right-click context menu, clicking the Format… command accesses the Change Task/Milestone Properties form as shown here:
+
The Change Text Element Order form is used to make global changes to text element ordering in the chart. That said, you can always use the OnePager Home ribbon tool bar’s Label position dropdown to change the label position of any of the three possible text elements by individually selecting the text element and making the manual Label position change.

+
Using the chart shown below as a starting point, the text elements are ordered left to right with the Date label(s) as the First text element in the sequence:

+

The Format tab is shown above where you can edit the task bar/milestone symbol's properties shown. Clicking any of the other six (6) decoration tabs on the form accesses the specific capabilities for editing that specific decoration for the selected task bar/milestone symbol(s).
+

+

P70-10_17_1-(7)-70-02042021.png

The Task Labels tab is used for positioning the task bar name label and editing its related properties but is not considered a decoration and is discussed this series of articles: Manual Editing Task/Milestone Shapes and Text Labels (Portal)
+
For this example, suppose we select the Percent complete value of the Create Working Plan task bar of 50% change its position in the row to the left of the task bar. This can be done in two steps:

Format button on the OnePager Pro Home Ribbon Tool Bar Tab
+
:1) Click on the 50% value in the task bar’s row to select the value. This places a selection rectangle around the text element and enables the Label position dropdown on the OnePager Home ribbon tool bar tab as shown here:

The Change Task/Milestone Properties form can also be accessed by clicking the Format… button on the OnePager Home ribbon tool bar tab after you selected one or more task bars/milestone symbols to edit. The Format...button on the ribbon is shown below:
+

+

P70-10_17_1-(8)-70-02042021.png

+
:2) Go to the enabled Label Position dropdown list and click on the Left position option. The result is that the 50% value is repositioned to the left of the task bar and the remaining text elements are unchanged as shown below:

+

After clicking the Format... button as shown above, the Change Task/Milestone Properties form is accessed as shown here:
+

+
Please be advised that in some cases, repositioning text elements can trigger the text collision avoidance algorithm to operate if the text collision avoidance feature is turned ON.

+

The Format tab is shown above where you can edit the task bar/milestone symbol format properties shown. Clicking any of the other six (6) decoration tabs on the form accesses the specific capabilities for editing that specific decoration for the selected task bar/milestone symbol(s).

Introduction to Text Element Ordering for OnePager

This article describes OnePager’s Text Element Ordering feature. Illustrations used in this article are from OnePager Pro but the feature's function, controls, and manual edits apply equally to OnePager Express.

Label Text Element Ordering

Overview

In previous version of OnePager Pro and Express two or more text elements such as task labels, date labels, or percent complete values associated with a task bar/milestone symbol were represented in the graph horizontally in a fixed order left to right. OnePager version 7.0 provides the capabilities and controls for you to change text element ordering as well as select for horizontal or vertical positioning of that order.

The controls for label text element ordering are found in the Template Properties and Chart Properties forms at the Task Bars and Milestones tabs. Label text element ordering controls for OnePager Pro and OnePager Express are the same and functions the same in both products. The Change Label Text Element Ordering button is shown below in the Chart Properties form’s Task Bars tab:

P70-10 0 1-(4A)-02042021.png

Clicking the Change Label Text Element Ordering button accesses the Change Text Element Ordering Change Label Text Element Order form shown below:

P70-10 0 1-(4B)-02042021.png

When task bar name labels, date labels, and percent compete values are shown in the chart, a typical chart looks like this:

P70-10 17 1-(1)-70-02042021.png

Ordering Options

At the top of the Change Text Element Order form there are four radio buttons. These radio buttons represent the four options available for ordering the three text elements with respect to their parent task bar/milestone symbol. These options are discussed below:

Order Text Element Left to Right

With left to right ordering, the first text element (identified in the Order windows in the lower portion of the form) appears to the left of the other text elements. This is the default ordering and is shown in the two illustrations above. This option is typically used when you position task bar/milestone symbol text elements in Label positions that are horizontally oriented such as Left, Right, Best fit left/right, and Best fit in task bar.

Order Top to Bottom

The top to bottom ordering is typically used in situations where you want to keep the text elements compact horizontally. This option is typically used when you position task bar/milestone symbol text elements in Label positions such as Above, Below, Best fit above/below, and Best fit all directions. In many cases it is useful also to increase the height of the row so that sufficient room is provided for up to three text elements as shown below:

P70-10 17 1-(2-1)-70-02042021.png

As for an example, the chart portion looks like this with text element Label position remaining as Best fit left/right:

P70-10 17 1-(3-1)-70-02042021.png

Order Horizontal Inside to Outside

The third option radio button, when selected, orders text elements horizontally inside to outside. This means that the first text element is always closest to the task bar, the next text element is farther to the left or right, and the third text element is farthest to the left or right. This text element ordering option is best used when text elements are to appear in the chart in horizontal arrangements. This update to the Change Text Element Order form is shown below:

P70-10 17 1-(4)-70-02042021.png

When this ordering is applied to the chart, it looks like this:

P70-10 17 1-(3)-70-02042021.png

Notice that regardless of the sequencing of the three text elements, the designated first text element is always closest to the task bar.

Order Vertically Inside to Outside

The last option radio button, when selected, orders text elements vertically inside to outside. This means that the first text element is always closest to the task bar, the next text element is farther away from the task bar, and the third text element is farthest away from the task bar in vertical orientation. This text element ordering option is best used when text elements are to appear in the chart in vertical arrangements and when text is placed above or below the task or milestone.

To make an example that is different from the previous examples, we’ll modify the Change Text Element Order form to show Date Labels as the first text element in the ordering. The corresponding Change Text Element Order form is shown below:

P70-10 17 1-(5)-70-02042021.png

When this change is applied to the chart, along with appropriate heightening of rows and selecting the Best fit above/below text element Label position, a selected portion of the chart looks like this:

P70-10 17 1-(6-1)-70-02052021.png

Again notice that regardless of the sequencing of the three text elements, the designated first text element is always closest to the task bar. In the illustration above, the first text element is Date label(s).

Text Element Order Sequencing

The lower portion of the Change Text Element Order form provides you with the controls to change the sequence of text elements as they are used in the four ordering options discussed in the previous sub-section. The default settings are:

 • Task/milestone label – First
 • Date label(s) – Second
 • Percent Complete - Third
