About Date Labels

1) Date label displays are driven by the start and finish date data imported from the Microsoft Excel source plan.

2) Every task in a Microsoft Excel source plan has a designated start and finish date.

3) A milestone's start and finish dates are usually the same.

4) You can choose to use date labels for tasks, milestones, or both.

Using the Chart Properties Form to Edit Date Labels

1) All task and milestone date labels cab be edited without changing the settings in the current Template by using the following steps:

2) Click the Chart Properties button on the Home ribbon in the Settings group as shown here:

X70-10 2 1-70-(1)-09142019.png
X70-10_2_1-70-(1)-09142019.png

3) Clicking the Chart Properties button accesses the Chart Properties form.

4) Next, navigate to either the Task Bars or Milestonestab as appropriate.

5) On the Task Bars tab, as shown below, ensure that the Date Labels checkbox is checked On:

File:X70-10 2 1-70-(2)-09142019.png
X70-10_2_1-70-(2)-09142019.png

6) Clicking the Date Label Properties... button to the right of the Date Labels checkbox accesses the Set Date Label Properties form as shown here:

File:X70-10 2 1-70-(3)-09142019.png
X70-10_2_1-70-(3)-09142019.png

7) There are eight controls in the form above. All actions are consistent with identical controls found elsewhere in OnePager Express (OPX).

Date Label Font

8) This control causes the Font properties form shown below to appear when the dropdown button is clicked.

X70-10 2 1-70-(3A)-09142019.png
X70-10_2_1-70-(3A)-09142019.png
a) Within this form are controls for date text font style, color and size.
b) Additionally, you can set the date text to Bold, Italic, or Underline.

Show (start/finish) and Position Date Label Text

9) The two checkboxes, Show start date and Show finish date, control the display of these two dates, respectively.

10) When checked, you have the option of selecting the position of the dates individually or together:

X70-10 2 1-70-(4)-09142019.png
X70-10_2_1-70-(4)-09142019.png

11) The Start field and Finish field are dropdown lists of all date type fields imported from your source plan giving you the options to select a different start date field or finish date field for use in the chart.

12) A Start field dropdown list example is shown below:

X70-10 2 1-70-(5)-09142019.png
X70-10_2_1-70-(5)-09142019.png

13) The combination of task label display and date label display for all task/milestones can cause a crowded appearance around the task/milestone shape.

14) Use the date label positioning controls to achieve the appearance desired in combination with task labels.

Date Format

15) OnePager provides a great deal of variety for the selection of date formats for task/milestones.

a) For consistency, the available formats for task/milestone date formats are the same as for date formats used for the time axis at the top/bottom of the chart.
b) A sample of date formats are shown below:
X70-10 2 1-70-(6)-09142019.png
X70-10_2_1-70-(6)-09142019.png

Separator

16) The separators are pairs of symbols that help differentiate the date label from other nearby text (e.g., task labels or percent complete).

17) There are several separator options to select from as shown below:

X70-10 2 1-70-(7)-09142019.png
X70-10_2_1-70-(7)-09142019.png

Use Fiscal Year

18) The Use fiscal year checkbox is an instruction, if checked On, to OnePager to show the displayed date in the fiscal year format for the chart’s time axis.

19) OnePager takes the action only if the time axis for the chart is, indeed, displaying the time axis in a fiscal year format. Make sure that the time axis is in fiscal mode to assure that date labels displayed are consistent.

Sample Start and Finish Date Labels in the Chart

20) When the Date Labels checkbox is checked On and both the Show start date and Show finish date checkboxes are checked On in the Set date label properties form, the date labels looks like this:

X70-10 2 1-70-(8)-09142019.png
X70-10_2_1-70-(8)-09142019.png
a) Date Label fonts are overridden by Task Label fonts when the Date Label and Task Label are in the same position.
b) If the Date Label is put in a different position than the Task Label, the Date Label font's properties are honored.

Editing Individual Date Labels in the Chart

1) There are three (3) methods for accessing the controls for editing individual date labels on individual tasks and milestones:

(1) You can right-click on the selected task/milestone shape to access the context menu followed by clicking the Format... command in the menu.
(2) You can right-click on the selected date label itself to access the one command context menu followed by clicking the Format... command.
(3) You can click the Format... button on the Home ribbon tab.

2) Each of these methods is discussed below.

Right-Clicking a Task/Milestone

3) Accessing the Change Task/Milestone Properties form with this method requires you to right-click on the task or milestone.
