Launching OnePager Add-in or OnePager desktop

1) Chronicle Graphics, Inc. is pleased to announce the addition of a desktop launch capability for both OnePager Pro and Express. Previous versions were embedded into Microsoft Project for OnePager Pro and Microsoft Excel for OnePager Express. We have retained these capabilities in OnePager Pro and Express Version 5.3 but have enhanced these products with the capability to launch OnePager from desktop icons shown here:

2) Launching OnePager Pro and Express from Microsoft Project and Microsoft Excel remains fully functional as with previous versions. Now, you can click the above icons to launch OnePager Pro and Express from the desktop. Launching OnePager will bring up the splash screen shown below (e.g., OnePager Pro):

3) Launching from the desktop still requires that your computer have Microsoft Project and/or Microsoft Excel installed if you want to create or update project views.

4) After clicking the desktop icon, the OnePager “Start” form will appear over an empty project view as shown below:

5) Please note that after selecting this launch option that you will only be able to launch either OnePager Pro Add-in OR One Pager Pro desktop. Only one of these applications may be active at a time. If you attempt to launch both, a warning message will appear. The same applies to launching OnePager Express Add-in OR OnePager Express desktop.

6) At this point you have the option to create a “NEW” project view, “UPDATE” an existing project view or “OPEN” an existing project view.

NEW Button

7) For the “NEW” option you will need to select a Microsoft Project file for OnePager Pro or a Microsoft Excel file for OnePager Express. Clicking the “NEW” button will display the “OnePager choices” form where you can click the “Select…” button in the “Select File(s)” section and the “BROWSE FILES…” option to display the Windows “Open” form as shown below:

8) Clicking the Windows “Open” button will cause the “OnePager Choices” form to expand (shown below) allowing you to complete the creation of a “NEW” project view as before.

UPDATE Button

9) Clicking the “UPDATE” button takes you to your project view database as shown below where you can select a project view in the form of a “.TAM” file:

a) For a .TAM file created with OnePager Version 5.3, the Microsoft Project or Microsoft Excel source file name and the path name are known, so OnePager can retrieve the source file. For these .TAM files, OnePager will provide the source file to Microsoft Project or Microsoft Excel and the application will in turn provide the data to OnePager Pro or Express which will complete the update process and display the updated project view.
b) For .TAM files created with OnePager Version 5.2 or earlier, OnePager only knows the Microsoft Project or Microsoft Excel file name but NOT the path name for retrieving the source file. In this situation, you will be prompted as shown below to provide the correct path name so that OnePager can retrieve the source file, provide it to Microsoft Project or Microsoft Excel, and complete the update process.

c) Once the .TAM file from a previous version of OnePager is processed by OnePager Version 5.3 and saved as a OnePager Version 5.3 .TAM, OnePager will retain the provided Microsoft Project or Microsoft Excel path name for further use.
d) Should a .TAM previously processed by OnePager Version 5.3 be shared with a OnePager Version 5.2 or earlier version user, the OnePager Version 5.2 or earlier version will not have access to the Microsoft Project or Microsoft Excel source file path name information. Accordingly, if a .TAM file under this scenario is updated and returned to a OnePager Version 5.2 user for processing, the Microsoft Project or Microsoft Excel path name information will no long be present in the updated .TAM file.

OPEN Button

10) Clicking the “OPEN” button and the “BROWSE FILES…” option will bring up a Windows “Open” form showing the .TAM files in your file system as shown below:

11) With the “OPEN” option, the project view is immediately displayed in the Project View Editor’s window.

12) Note: When you use the Add-in version of OnePager Pro and Express, access to the OnePager Templates is provided on the Microsoft Project and Microsoft Excel “Add-in” Ribbon. When you launch the stand-alone version of OnePager, access to the Templates is as follows:

a) Launch OnePager Pro or Express Version 5.3 from the desktop.
b) Click the “File” tab on the OnePager Version 5.3 Ribbon.
c) Then, click the “Options” tab which will bring up the display shown below:

Template Button

d) Clicking the “Template…” button on the OnePager Options page shown above will bring up the “Template Properties” form for the current template. At this point you may make modifications to the current template and save it or you may access other OnePager templates by clicking the “File” tab on the “Template Properties” form being displayed as shown below:

e) Clicking on the “BROWSE FILES…” button shown in the illustration above will take you to your template storage folder where you may select from the named .TAT files.

13) Note: OnePager Pro and Express Versions 5.3 can process .TAM files created by either OnePager Pro or OnePager Express. In the case of .TAMs created by OnePager Express you need to consider the flexibility of Microsoft Excel with respect to column names and functions. In other words, .TAM files originally created with OnePager Express will not be updatable in OnePager Pro and vice versa.

14) OnePager Pro or Express Version 5.3’s desktop applications can also be launch by double-clicking on a .TAM file or a .TAT (template) file. If you have both OnePager Pro and Express Versions 5.3 installed (called a OnePager Bundle), OnePager will look to see which application built the double-clicked .TAM or .TAT file and launch the appropriate OnePager application. If only OnePager Pro or OnePager Express are installed, the installed OnePager will attempt to process the double-clicked .TAM or .TAT On the other hand, if you do not open a .TAM or .TAT with a double-click but open a selected .TAM or .TAT using the “File” -> “Open” commands from the Project View Editor, the launched application of OnePager will process the selected .TAM or .TAT file.

Caution on Launching OnePager Pro Add-in and Desktop

Please note that after selecting this launch option that you will only be able to launch either OnePager Pro Add-in OR One Pager Pro desktop. Only one of these applications may be active at a time. If you attempt to launch both, a warning message will appear.
