Introduction
1) One of OnePager's strength is its ability to create compact visual representations of multiple projects.
+
This article is focused on using the Column Splitting feature with OnePager Bundle Standalone and imported Asana source plans.

2) These can be several projects that belong to one program or they can be several projects and programs in an organization’s portfolio.
+
About Splitting and Parsing Fields
3) Microsoft Project supports the management of multiple projects through the creation of a Microsoft Project Master Project or Integrated Master Schedule (IMS).
+
The OnePager column splitting feature allows you to duplicate task bars when a task in your Asana source plan is assigned to multiple resources (or anything else).  Because assignments from Asana often are comma-delimited, this feature enables OnePager to parse the comma-delimited list and create a unique task bar for each instance in the comma-separated list.

Creating an IMS for Related Projects
Split Resource Names Example
1) To create an IMS from related projects, open Microsoft Project and go to the Insert Projects button to insert sub-projects into a Master Project. Save the Master Project with an appropriate Master Project file name for future reference.

OnePager, in this case, treats the entire string as an individual Assigned to value.  To provide more flexibility in displaying task bars that have multiple resources assigned, OnePager supports the concept of a column splitting.  This feature recognizes comma-separated values in a designated column and creates a separate task bar for each of the comma-separated values.

1) Creating a One Pager multi-project chart is a matter of opening the Microsoft Project Master Project and using a different OnePager Pro Template Properties form to import data and create a new chart.
+
Enabling Splitting
2) To change to a different Templates, click the Template... button on the Microsoft Project Add-in ribbon tool bar to access the Template Properties form
+
To use this feature requires turning ON the feature in the Asana Template Properties form you intend to use to make the chart.  The setting must be turned ON before the chart is created so launch OnePager Bundle from the desktop icon, click the NEW button on the OnePager Bundle Start form to access the OnePager choices form, select your Asana source plan, and type in the chart's title as shown here:

3) Then, click the File button as shown below:
+
<center></center>
 +
<center>P72-24_5_3-72-(2A)-11022023.png</center>

<center></center>
+
When you click the Next> button at the bottom of the form, OnePager accesses the second page of the OnePager choices form shown below:
<!--<center>P70-8_1_1-(1)-05122020.png</center>-->
+

4) Clicking the BROWSE option accesses the Windows Open form where OnePager stores your Templates as shown below:
+
<center></center>
 +
<center>P72-24_5_3-72-(2AA)-11022023.png</center>

<center></center>
+
Clicking the Edit current template button accesses the current Template Properties form.  Navigate to the Field Mappings tab on the form, check the Enable splitting on: checkbox to ON and (in this example) select the Assigned To column from the dropdown list provided. The results are shown here:
<!--<center>P70-8_1_1-(2)-05122020.png</center>-->
+

5) The default OnePager Pro out-of-the-box Template Properties form is Single Project Gantt View – Detailed.
+
<center></center>
 +
<center>P72-24_5_3-72-(2AAA)-11022023.png</center>

6) Instead, choose the Template Properties form named Multi-Project Gantt Chart - Detailed as shown above.
+
Click the Save and use button to complete the process and close the current Template Properties form returning you to the second page of the OnePager choices form show above.

7) OnePager assumes that when the Multi-Project Gantt Chart - Detailed Template Properties form is in use, that you are using a Microsoft Project Master Project as the source plan.
+
Split Resources in the Chart
8) Making this choice changes the Template Properties form to have the multi-project Template Properties form name in the title bar, as is shown below:
+
Clicking the Create new chart button completes the process and creates the chart with the column splitting feature in use.  The chart with splitting looks like this:

<center></center>
+
<center></center>

+
<center>P72-24_5_3-72-(2)-11022023.png</center>

9) You now have OnePager Pro ready to use the multi-project Template Properties form.
+
In the chart with column splitting shown above, there are now several more task bars in the Chart Editor than there were before.  The task bar for Plate Movement is now split into two (2) separate task bars, one for each of the two resources assigned.  The task bar for Centrifugal Barrier is now split into three (3) separate task bars, one for each of the three resources that were assigned to this task in the Asana source plan.  Each of the resources has a unique color assigned.  Each of the resources appears by itself in the Legend.  The Legend title shows the column name that is used for splitting the columns.

Creating the Multi-Project Chart
+
With this feature, you can use column splitting just like any other column by using the dropdowns in the Template Properties form or Chart Properties form to assign colors, highlight task bars and milestone symbols, and to define and label rows and swimlanes.

1) The actions required to create a new chart from this point are as described elsewhere depending on whether you are creating a NEW chart, UPDATING an existing chart, or OPENING an existing chart.

Making the New Multi-Project Chart
+

+
3) Creating a NEW multi-project chart follows these steps:
+

+
:a) Launch Microsoft Project with your multi-project source plan.
+

+
:b) Launch OnePager Pro and select the NEW button.
+

+
:c) OnePager uses the loaded Microsoft Project multi-project source plan under control of the Multi-Project Gantt Chart – Detailed Template Properties form to create your new chart as shown below:
+

+
<center></center>
+
<!--<center>P70-8_1_1-(4)-05122020.png</center>-->
+

+
4) In the example above, the chart is organized with one swimlane level representing various projects at the Microsoft Project Level 4 name.
+

+
5) Rows are used to represent Resource Names as shown in the Text Column to the right of the swimlane level cells.
+

+
6) Colors are assigned randomly in a round-robin fashion based on Resource Names as well.
+

+
Changing Task Bar Shape Representation
+

+
7) We now can change the representation of some of the task bars from task bar shapes to milestone symbols by right-clicking them and clicking the As milestone at finish option as shown below:
+

+
<center></center>
+
<!--<center>P70-8_1_1-(5)-05122020.png</center>-->
+

+
8) The chart below was produced by arbitrarily representing the longest project level task bars as rectangular shapes and the remaining task bars changed to milestone symbols:
+

+
<center></center>
+
<!--<center>P70-8_1_1-(6)-05122020.png</center>-->
+

+
9) It is also possible to represent the task below the longest project level task bar as milestone symbols positioned at the start of the task period using the same technique used in the previous illustration as shown below:
+

+
<center></center>
+
<!--<center>P70-8_1_1-(7)-05122020.png</center>-->
+

+
10) These charts can now be copied into Microsoft PowerPoint for delivery to your audience.

Introduction

This article is focused on using the Column Splitting feature with OnePager Bundle Standalone and imported Asana source plans.

About Splitting and Parsing Fields

The OnePager column splitting feature allows you to duplicate task bars when a task in your Asana source plan is assigned to multiple resources (or anything else). Because assignments from Asana often are comma-delimited, this feature enables OnePager to parse the comma-delimited list and create a unique task bar for each instance in the comma-separated list.

Split Resource Names Example

Say you want to use color-codes on task bars/milestone symbols based upon your Asana source plan’s Assigned to column as shown below:

P72-24 5 3-72-(1)-11022023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(1)-11022023.png

Some of the entries in the Assigned to column consist of multiple, comma-separated items and some tasks only used one resource. Without the column splitting feature, a chart created from these data and assigned task bar/milestone symbol colors based upon the Assigned to column looks like this:

P72-24 5 3-72-(5)-11272023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(5)-11272023.png

OnePager, in this case, treats the entire string as an individual Assigned to value. To provide more flexibility in displaying task bars that have multiple resources assigned, OnePager supports the concept of a column splitting. This feature recognizes comma-separated values in a designated column and creates a separate task bar for each of the comma-separated values.

Enabling Splitting

To use this feature requires turning ON the feature in the Asana Template Properties form you intend to use to make the chart. The setting must be turned ON before the chart is created so launch OnePager Bundle from the desktop icon, click the NEW button on the OnePager Bundle Start form to access the OnePager choices form, select your Asana source plan, and type in the chart's title as shown here:

P72-24 5 3-72-(2A)-11022023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(2A)-11022023.png

When you click the Next> button at the bottom of the form, OnePager accesses the second page of the OnePager choices form shown below:

P72-24 5 3-72-(2AA)-11022023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(2AA)-11022023.png

Clicking the Edit current template button accesses the current Template Properties form. Navigate to the Field Mappings tab on the form, check the Enable splitting on: checkbox to ON and (in this example) select the Assigned To column from the dropdown list provided. The results are shown here:

P72-24 5 3-72-(2AAA)-11022023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(2AAA)-11022023.png

Click the Save and use button to complete the process and close the current Template Properties form returning you to the second page of the OnePager choices form show above.

Split Resources in the Chart

Clicking the Create new chart button completes the process and creates the chart with the column splitting feature in use. The chart with splitting looks like this:

P72-24 5 3-72-(2)-11022023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(2)-11022023.png

In the chart with column splitting shown above, there are now several more task bars in the Chart Editor than there were before. The task bar for Plate Movement is now split into two (2) separate task bars, one for each of the two resources assigned. The task bar for Centrifugal Barrier is now split into three (3) separate task bars, one for each of the three resources that were assigned to this task in the Asana source plan. Each of the resources has a unique color assigned. Each of the resources appears by itself in the Legend. The Legend title shows the column name that is used for splitting the columns.

With this feature, you can use column splitting just like any other column by using the dropdowns in the Template Properties form or Chart Properties form to assign colors, highlight task bars and milestone symbols, and to define and label rows and swimlanes.

Splitting Resources and Task Links

When task bars with Data-Driven or manual Task Links are split, the Task Links (Data-Driven and manual) are not shown. Further, the Task Links that are now hidden and do not have entries in the Where are My Links? form.
