About Editing Endpoints
+
Introduction
There are four endpoints definable in OnePager for each task bar.  Although deadlines can be applied to both task bars and milestone symbols, the four endpoints apply only to task bars. Accordingly, and for all practical purposes, the four possible endpoints (Endpoint1, Endpoint2, Endpoint3, and Endpoint4) can be thought of as additional deadlines dates for task bars that can be defined to meet your needs.
+
This article is focused on using the Column Splitting feature with OnePager Bundle Standalone and imported Asana source plans.

The control and the behavior of all four endpoints are identical to that discussed for deadlines.
+
About Splitting and Parsing Fields
For more information on Deadlines, please see the article at: Deadlines for OnePager Express <!--10.10.1-70-->
+
The OnePager column splitting feature allows you to duplicate task bars when a task in your Asana source plan is assigned to multiple resources (or anything else). Because assignments from Asana often are comma-delimited, this feature enables OnePager to parse the comma-delimited list and create a unique task bar for each instance in the comma-separated list.

As an additional thought, you can consider the four endpoints as task-oriented milestones as they occupy the same row as their parent task bar. By convention and as a default, the initial association of Endpoints 1 through 4 are to Microsoft Excel source plan fields is as follows:
+
Split Resource Names Example
:* Endpoint 1: Start Date.
+
Say you want to use color-codes on task bars/milestone symbols based upon your Asana source plan’s Assigned to column as shown below:
:* Endpoint 2: Finish Date.
+
:* Endpoint 3: Baseline Start Date.
+
:* Endpoint 4: Baseline Finish Date.
+

These default settings are contained in all distributed OnePager Express Template Properties forms. Since controls are provided as described below whereby you can edit the endpoint association with Microsoft Excel source plan fields, it is recommended that you establish your endpoint relationships to specific Microsoft Project date fields before creating the first chart. This recommendation can be done by editing the Template Properties form you plan to use before launching OnePager Express or after launching OnePager Express by editing the Template Properties using the access point in the OnePager choices (OPC) form described in the following section.
+

Displaying Endpoints
+
Some of the entries in the Assigned to column consist of multiple, comma-separated items and some tasks only used one resource.  Without the column splitting feature, a chart created from these data and assigned task bar/milestone symbol colors based upon the Assigned to column looks like this:

For OnePager to properly display your endpoints, you must first define the endpoint field in Microsoft Excel and map them to OnePager through the OnePager choices (OPC) form. A sample, Microsoft Excel source plan is shown below with both deadline and endpoint definitions:
+
<center></center>
 +
<center>P72-24_5_3-72-(5)-11272023.png</center>

<center></center>
+
OnePager, in this case, treats the entire string as an individual Assigned to value. To provide more flexibility in displaying task bars that have multiple resources assigned, OnePager supports the concept of a column splitting.  This feature recognizes comma-separated values in a designated column and creates a separate task bar for each of the comma-separated values.
<!--<center>X70-10_12_1-70-(1)-09202019.png</center>-->
+

In the sample above, we see the typical task information with Show It used to signal OnePager which rows to import, the Microsoft Excel field named Deadline and four Date fields (Endpoint1, Endpoint2, Endpoint3, and Endpoint4) which are used to import information to OnePager representing Endpoints 1 through 4 respectively. When the OnePager button is clicked on the Microsoft Excel tool bar and you click the NEW button on the OnePager Express Start form, OnePager displays the first page of the OPC form as shown below:
+
Enabling Splitting
<center></center>
+
To use this feature requires turning ON the feature in the Asana Template Properties form you intend to use to make the chart.  The setting must be turned ON before the chart is created so launch OnePager Bundle from the desktop icon, click the NEW button on the OnePager Bundle Start form to access the OnePager choices form, select your Asana source plan, and type in the chart's title as shown here:
<!--<center>X70-10_12_1-70-(2)-09202019.png</center>-->

Clicking the Create new chart button completes the process and creates the chart with the column splitting feature in use.  The chart with splitting looks like this:

Clicking the Endpoint Properties... button accesses the Set endpoint properties form where the Choose endpoint dropdown is shown below allowing you the option to select to edit one of the four available endpoints:
+
<center></center>

In the chart with column splitting shown above, there are now several more task bars in the Chart Editor than there were before.  The task bar for Plate Movement is now split into two (2) separate task bars, one for each of the two resources assigned. The task bar for Centrifugal Barrier is now split into three (3) separate task bars, one for each of the three resources that were assigned to this task in the Asana source plan.  Each of the resources has a unique color assigned.  Each of the resources appears by itself in the Legend.  The Legend title shows the column name that is used for splitting the columns.
<!--<center>X70-10_12_1-70-(5)-09202019.png</center>-->
+

In the illustration above, Endpoint 1 is shown edited with all its available elements turned ON. The above form is almost identical to the Set deadline properties form. The difference is the Show this endpoint checkbox which refers to the dropdown menu shown above whereby you can select which endpoint to control. In effect, this form is four (4) forms in one allowing you to turn ON and OFF each individual endpoint and configure the properties of each endpoint separately. The illustration above covers up two important controls that need to be addressed. The Show this endpoint checkbox and the Field dropdown menu by which you tell OnePager which Microsoft Excel source plan field is used for each particular endpoint. These controls are shown here:
+
With this feature, you can use column splitting just like any other column by using the dropdowns in the Template Properties form or Chart Properties form to assign colors, highlight task bars and milestone symbols, and to define and label rows and swimlanes.

Splitting Resources and Task Links
<!--<center>X70-10_12_1-70-(6)-09202019.png</center>-->
+

As necessary, repeat the above editing steps for Endpoint 2 through 4 as required such that when the endpoint data are imported into OnePager the endpoint shapes and other properties are unique.
+
When task bars with Data-Driven or manual Task Links are split, the Task Links (Data-Driven and manual) are not shown. Further, the Task Links that are now hidden and do not have entries in the Where are My Links? form.

Saving the Current Template Properties Form
+

+
Now that the endpoints are defined with distinct properties for all task bars in our example, go back to the Template Properties form, click the Save and use button to get back to the second page of the OPC form. Then click the Create new chart button and OnePager produces the following chart:
+

+
<center></center>
+
<!--<center>X70-10_12_1-70-(7)-09202019.png</center>-->
+

+
For the illustration above, Endpoints 1 and 2 are lined up from left to right in each row.

Editing Endpoint Properties
+

+
The above section's discussion covered the set up and initial display of endpoints.  Recall that endpoint controls are exactly identical to the controls for deadlines.

The exception is only for the necessity to turn ON or OFF the individual endpoints through their respective Show this endpoint checkbox and to enter the Microsoft Excel source plan field you need to use for the respective endpoints in the Field dropdown menu of the Set endpoint properties form.
+

+
Editing Individual Task Endpoint Properties
+

+
Endpoint properties can be set or edited for individual task bars. In addition to the capabilities for editing all Endpoint properties using the Template Properties and/or Chart Properties forms, you can select and individually edit Endpoint properties showing in the chart. A prerequisite for editing individual endpoint properties is the necessity for endpoint data to be imported from the Microsoft Project source plan.
+

+
Selecting Individual Task Bar or Bars
+

+
Individual task bar endpoint properties can be edited by selecting the desired task bar or task bars with a left-click operation and then right-clicking on the Format... command in the task bar right-click context menu as shown below:
+

+
<center></center>
+
<!--<center>X70-10_12_1-70-(8)-09202019.png</center>-->
+

+
Before you can do so, you must confirm that the Endpoints checkbox in either the Template Properties or Chart Properties form's Task Bars and/or Milestones tab is checked ON.
+

+
Accessing the Change Task/Milestone Properties Form
+

+
Select the Format… command accesses the Change Task/Milestone Properties form. Next, navigate to the Endpoints tab, which displays the endpoint control options shown below:
+

+
<center></center>
+
<!--<center>X70-10_12_1-70-(9-1)-09102020.png</center>-->
+

+
From the Endpoints tab of the form above, you are able to turn the selected endpoint ON or OFF, show the endpoint connector to the task bar, and show or hide the endpoint date label text.
+

+
Using Endpoints Example
+

+
For example, using the Deadlines-Endpoints Example previously illustrated above, suppose we want to make the following edits:
+

+
:* Turn OFF the display of Endpoint 1 for Task B
+
:* Hide the Endpoint connector for Endpoint 1 to Task C
+
:* Hide the Date Label for Endpoint 1 for Task A under the task
+

+
For each task bar we select the task bar with a left-click, then right-click to get to the task bar right-click context menu, select the Format… command to get to the Change Task/Milestone Properties form and finally accessed the Endpoints tab. These steps are performed for each of the task bars involved starting with Task B where one edit to Endpoint 1 was made and then to Task C where an edit was made to Endpoints 1 and 4. After making these edits the chart looks like this:
+

+
<center></center>
+
<!--<center>X70-10_12_1-70-(10)-09202019.png</center>-->

Introduction

This article is focused on using the Column Splitting feature with OnePager Bundle Standalone and imported Asana source plans.

About Splitting and Parsing Fields

The OnePager column splitting feature allows you to duplicate task bars when a task in your Asana source plan is assigned to multiple resources (or anything else). Because assignments from Asana often are comma-delimited, this feature enables OnePager to parse the comma-delimited list and create a unique task bar for each instance in the comma-separated list.

Split Resource Names Example

Say you want to use color-codes on task bars/milestone symbols based upon your Asana source plan’s Assigned to column as shown below:

P72-24 5 3-72-(1)-11022023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(1)-11022023.png

Some of the entries in the Assigned to column consist of multiple, comma-separated items and some tasks only used one resource. Without the column splitting feature, a chart created from these data and assigned task bar/milestone symbol colors based upon the Assigned to column looks like this:

P72-24 5 3-72-(5)-11272023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(5)-11272023.png

OnePager, in this case, treats the entire string as an individual Assigned to value. To provide more flexibility in displaying task bars that have multiple resources assigned, OnePager supports the concept of a column splitting. This feature recognizes comma-separated values in a designated column and creates a separate task bar for each of the comma-separated values.

Enabling Splitting

To use this feature requires turning ON the feature in the Asana Template Properties form you intend to use to make the chart. The setting must be turned ON before the chart is created so launch OnePager Bundle from the desktop icon, click the NEW button on the OnePager Bundle Start form to access the OnePager choices form, select your Asana source plan, and type in the chart's title as shown here:

P72-24 5 3-72-(2A)-11022023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(2A)-11022023.png

When you click the Next> button at the bottom of the form, OnePager accesses the second page of the OnePager choices form shown below:

P72-24 5 3-72-(2AA)-11022023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(2AA)-11022023.png

Clicking the Edit current template button accesses the current Template Properties form. Navigate to the Field Mappings tab on the form, check the Enable splitting on: checkbox to ON and (in this example) select the Assigned To column from the dropdown list provided. The results are shown here:

P72-24 5 3-72-(2AAA)-11022023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(2AAA)-11022023.png

Click the Save and use button to complete the process and close the current Template Properties form returning you to the second page of the OnePager choices form show above.

Split Resources in the Chart

Clicking the Create new chart button completes the process and creates the chart with the column splitting feature in use. The chart with splitting looks like this:

P72-24 5 3-72-(2)-11022023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(2)-11022023.png

In the chart with column splitting shown above, there are now several more task bars in the Chart Editor than there were before. The task bar for Plate Movement is now split into two (2) separate task bars, one for each of the two resources assigned. The task bar for Centrifugal Barrier is now split into three (3) separate task bars, one for each of the three resources that were assigned to this task in the Asana source plan. Each of the resources has a unique color assigned. Each of the resources appears by itself in the Legend. The Legend title shows the column name that is used for splitting the columns.

With this feature, you can use column splitting just like any other column by using the dropdowns in the Template Properties form or Chart Properties form to assign colors, highlight task bars and milestone symbols, and to define and label rows and swimlanes.

Splitting Resources and Task Links

When task bars with Data-Driven or manual Task Links are split, the Task Links (Data-Driven and manual) are not shown. Further, the Task Links that are now hidden and do not have entries in the Where are My Links? form.
