Overview
Introduction
On occasion swimlane level cell and text column cells may contain text strings or values that are too wide to clearly fit in the horizontal space available.  Th1s may happen because the swimlane cell and text column cell widths are too narrow.  More common, is the occurrence where source plan data fields imported into OnePager contain information that does not fit in the horizontal space available.  Where these occurrences are known prior to creating a OnePager chart, you have the option in the Template Properties form to set the widths of swimlane cells and text column cells before a chart is created.
+
This article is focused on using the Column Splitting feature with OnePager Bundle Standalone and imported Asana source plans.

Additionally, once a chart is created, there are controls in the Chart Properties form for globally adjusting the widths of swimlane cells and text column cells after chart creation.  Finally, there are manual editing techniques available to adjust these same swimlane cells and text column cells widths using your mouse in the Chart Editor.
+
About Splitting and Parsing Fields
This article covers the global adjustment of swimlane cells and text column cells widths using the controls in the Chart Properties formSince the controls in the Template Properties form are exactly the same as those in the Chart Properties form, only the controls in the Chart Properties form are discussed.  This article also covers how to adjust the widths of swimlane cells and text column cells in the Chart Editor.
+
The OnePager column splitting feature allows you to duplicate task bars when a task in your Asana source plan is assigned to multiple resources (or anything else)Because assignments from Asana often are comma-delimited, this feature enables OnePager to parse the comma-delimited list and create a unique task bar for each instance in the comma-separated list.

Globally Adjusting the Width of Text Columns or Swimlane Levels
+
Split Resource Names Example
The Chart Properties form's Rows/Swimlanes tab's Swimlanes and Text Columns control groups have identical controls for adjusting swimlane cells and text column cells widths  as shown here:
+
Say you want to use color-codes on task bars/milestone symbols based upon your Asana source plan’s Assigned to column as shown below:

<center></center>
+
<center></center>

<center>P72-24_5_3-72-(1)-11022023.png</center>

Text Column Width Adjustment in the Chart Properties Form
+
Some of the entries in the Assigned to column consist of multiple, comma-separated items and some tasks only used one resource.  Without the column splitting feature, a chart created from these data and assigned task bar/milestone symbol colors based upon the Assigned to column looks like this:

Additionally, for your convenience, there is an identical text column cell width control provided in the Text-Column Formatting - Left#n form for each of the five (5) text columns as shown below for the Left#3 text column:
+
<center></center>
 +
<center>P72-24_5_3-72-(5)-11272023.png</center>

<center></center>
+
OnePager, in this case, treats the entire string as an individual Assigned to value. To provide more flexibility in displaying task bars that have multiple resources assigned, OnePager supports the concept of a column splitting.  This feature recognizes comma-separated values in a designated column and creates a separate task bar for each of the comma-separated values.
<!--<center>P70-12_8_1-(2)-7082020.png</center>-->
+

This control is useful when working with the Text-Column Formatting - Left#n form where it might not be convenient to revert back to the Chart Properties form's Rows/Swimlanes tab.
+
Enabling Splitting
Swimlane Level Cell Width Adjustment in the Chart Properties Form
+
To use this feature requires turning ON the feature in the Asana Template Properties form you intend to use to make the chart.  The setting must be turned ON before the chart is created so launch OnePager Bundle from the desktop icon, click the NEW button on the OnePager Bundle Start form to access the OnePager choices form, select your Asana source plan, and type in the chart's title as shown here:

Again, for your convenience, there is an identical swimlane level cell width control provided in the Swimlane Formatting - Left#n form for each of the three (3) swimlane levels as shown below for the Left#3 text column:
+
<center></center>
 +
<center>P72-24_5_3-72-(2A)-11022023.png</center>

<center></center>
+
When you click the Next> button at the bottom of the form, OnePager accesses the second page of the OnePager choices form shown below:
<!--<center>P70-12_8_1-(3)-7082020.png</center>-->
+

In a fashion identical to the control in the Text-Column Formatting - Left#n form, this control is useful when working with the Swimlane Formatting - Left#n form where it might not be convenient to revert back to the Chart Properties form's Rows/Swimlanes tab.
+

Examples
+
Clicking the Edit current template button accesses the current Template Properties form.  Navigate to the Field Mappings tab on the form, check the Enable splitting on: checkbox to ON and (in this example) select the Assigned To column from the dropdown list provided.  The results are shown here:

The chart below is configured with each swimlane level cell and each text column cell set to width 0.95 to show how their contents look in a narrow horizontal space:

<center></center>
 +

<center></center>
+
Click the Save and use button to complete the process and close the current Template Properties form returning you to the second page of the OnePager choices form show above.
<!--<center>P70-12_8_1-(4)-7082020.png</center>-->

In the illustration above, two of the swimlane levels and the single text column appear to have crowded labels.

Split Resources in the Chart
Changing Swimlane Level Cell Widths - Example
+
Clicking the Create new chart button completes the process and creates the chart with the column splitting feature in use. The chart with splitting looks like this:

This can be remedied in the Chart Properties form for the Left#2 and Left#3 swimlane level cells by using the Width control to increase the value to 1.50 as shown below:
+
<center></center>
 +
<center>P72-24_5_3-72-(2)-11022023.png</center>

<center></center>
+
In the chart with column splitting shown above, there are now several more task bars in the Chart Editor than there were before.  The task bar for Plate Movement is now split into two (2) separate task bars, one for each of the two resources assigned. The task bar for Centrifugal Barrier is now split into three (3) separate task bars, one for each of the three resources that were assigned to this task in the Asana source plan.  Each of the resources has a unique color assigned.  Each of the resources appears by itself in the Legend.  The Legend title shows the column name that is used for splitting the columns.
<!--<center>P70-12_8_1-(5)-7082020.png</center>-->
+

In a similar manner the width of the Left#3 swimlane level cells are increased from 0.95 to 1.50 as shown here:
+
With this feature, you can use column splitting just like any other column by using the dropdowns in the Template Properties form or Chart Properties form to assign colors, highlight task bars and milestone symbols, and to define and label rows and swimlanes.

<center></center>
+
Splitting Resources and Task Links
<!--<center>P70-12_8_1-(6)-7082020.png</center>-->
+

Changing Text Column Widths - Example
+
When task bars with Data-Driven or manual Task Links are split, the Task Links (Data-Driven and manual) are not shown.  Further, the Task Links that are now hidden and do not have entries in the Where are My Links? form.

+
Changing the crowded condition of the Left#3 text column cells follows similar steps involving the Width control found in the Text Columns controls group as shown below:
+

+
<center></center>
+
<!--<center>P70-12_8_1-(7)-7082020.png</center>-->
+

+
The illustration above show that it was necessary to increase all the Left#3 text column cells because the contents of the source plan's Name field for each imported task required more horizontal space so the width was increased to 3.00.  The same results can be achieve if, in each of the examples above, the Text-Column Formatting - Left#n form or the Swimlanes Formatting - Left#n form is used and their respective Width control values are changed.
+

+
Resizing the Width of Text Columns and Swimlane Levels Using Drag and Drop
+

+
If you need more horizontal space for the content in your text columns or swimlane levels, you can resize them using drag and drop techniques with your mouse.  To do this, hover your mouse over the vertical edge of the target text column or swimlane level cells until the double-arrow cursor appears, then left-click the mouse as shown below for the Left#3 text column:
+

+
<center></center>
+
<!--<center>P70-12_8_1-(8)-07092020.png</center>-->
+

+
With the left-click button held down, drag the double-arrow cursor to the left or right as needed to widen or make the text column narrower as shown below where the Left#3 text column is widened:
+

+
<center></center>
+
<!--<center>P70-12_8_1-(9)-07092020.png</center>-->
+

+
When the double-arrow cursor is dragged to the desired position, release the left-click button and the selected text column's width is changed as shown below:
+

+
<center></center>
+
<!--<center>P70-12_8_1-(10)-07092020.png</center>-->
+

+
As shown in the illustration above, as long as the mouse cursor is hovering over a text column or swimlane level vertical boundary the mouse cursor retains the double-arrow shapeAs you resize the cell's width, the size of your overall OnePager chart is adjusted accordingly.
+

+
Note that there can be an impact on the output media formatting for multi-page charts.
+

+
Resizing the Width of Text Columns and Swimlane Levels Using the Double-Click Method
+

+
You can quickly resize the width of a text column or swimlane level by positioning the mouse cursor on the right border of the text column or swimlane level and performing a double left-click with the mouse when the double-arrow cursor shape appears.
+

+
Suppose we have the chart shown below where the swimlane level cell contents and text column content are crowded and you want to resize these columns so that the contents fits without changing the text font as shown below:
+

+
<center></center>
+
<!--<center>P70-12_8_1-(11)-07092020.png</center>-->
+

+
Automatically Resizing the Width of Swimlane Levels
+

+
To automatically resize the width of a swimlane level, place the cursor on the right border of the swimlane level and double-click when the double arrow cursor shape appears.  The result is shown below for the Left#2 swimlane level:
+

+
<center></center>
+
<!--<center>P70-12_8_1-(12-1)-01132021.png</center>-->
+

+
The double-click tells OnePager to examine all the swimlane level cells and make the width of the selected swimlane level adequate to display the contents of all swimlane level cells in the selected swimlane level as shown above.  When this same method is applied to the Left#3 swimlane level in the above chart, the results look like this:
+

+
<center></center>
+
<!--<center>P70-12_8_1-(13-1)-01132021.png</center>-->
+

+
Automatically Resize the Width of Text Columns
+

+
In a similar way, you can use this method to resize the width of any text columns by placing the cursor on its right border as shown below and double-clicking the mouse when the double arrow cursor shape appears:
+

+
<center></center>
+
<!--<center>P70-12_8_1-(14-1)-12112020.png</center>-->

Introduction

This article is focused on using the Column Splitting feature with OnePager Bundle Standalone and imported Asana source plans.

About Splitting and Parsing Fields

The OnePager column splitting feature allows you to duplicate task bars when a task in your Asana source plan is assigned to multiple resources (or anything else). Because assignments from Asana often are comma-delimited, this feature enables OnePager to parse the comma-delimited list and create a unique task bar for each instance in the comma-separated list.

Split Resource Names Example

Say you want to use color-codes on task bars/milestone symbols based upon your Asana source plan’s Assigned to column as shown below:

P72-24 5 3-72-(1)-11022023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(1)-11022023.png

Some of the entries in the Assigned to column consist of multiple, comma-separated items and some tasks only used one resource. Without the column splitting feature, a chart created from these data and assigned task bar/milestone symbol colors based upon the Assigned to column looks like this:

P72-24 5 3-72-(5)-11272023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(5)-11272023.png

OnePager, in this case, treats the entire string as an individual Assigned to value. To provide more flexibility in displaying task bars that have multiple resources assigned, OnePager supports the concept of a column splitting. This feature recognizes comma-separated values in a designated column and creates a separate task bar for each of the comma-separated values.

Enabling Splitting

To use this feature requires turning ON the feature in the Asana Template Properties form you intend to use to make the chart. The setting must be turned ON before the chart is created so launch OnePager Bundle from the desktop icon, click the NEW button on the OnePager Bundle Start form to access the OnePager choices form, select your Asana source plan, and type in the chart's title as shown here:

P72-24 5 3-72-(2A)-11022023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(2A)-11022023.png

When you click the Next> button at the bottom of the form, OnePager accesses the second page of the OnePager choices form shown below:

P72-24 5 3-72-(2AA)-11022023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(2AA)-11022023.png

Clicking the Edit current template button accesses the current Template Properties form. Navigate to the Field Mappings tab on the form, check the Enable splitting on: checkbox to ON and (in this example) select the Assigned To column from the dropdown list provided. The results are shown here:

P72-24 5 3-72-(2AAA)-11022023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(2AAA)-11022023.png

Click the Save and use button to complete the process and close the current Template Properties form returning you to the second page of the OnePager choices form show above.

Split Resources in the Chart

Clicking the Create new chart button completes the process and creates the chart with the column splitting feature in use. The chart with splitting looks like this:

P72-24 5 3-72-(2)-11022023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(2)-11022023.png

In the chart with column splitting shown above, there are now several more task bars in the Chart Editor than there were before. The task bar for Plate Movement is now split into two (2) separate task bars, one for each of the two resources assigned. The task bar for Centrifugal Barrier is now split into three (3) separate task bars, one for each of the three resources that were assigned to this task in the Asana source plan. Each of the resources has a unique color assigned. Each of the resources appears by itself in the Legend. The Legend title shows the column name that is used for splitting the columns.

With this feature, you can use column splitting just like any other column by using the dropdowns in the Template Properties form or Chart Properties form to assign colors, highlight task bars and milestone symbols, and to define and label rows and swimlanes.

Splitting Resources and Task Links

When task bars with Data-Driven or manual Task Links are split, the Task Links (Data-Driven and manual) are not shown. Further, the Task Links that are now hidden and do not have entries in the Where are My Links? form.
