About Moving Swimlanes in the Chart
+
Introduction
As it is with rows, for some schedule presentations the order of swimlanes in the chart done by OnePager may not be totally sufficient to meet your needs.  Swimlanes can be manually moved up and down in the chart by selecting the appropriate swimlane level cell of the desired swimlane and, once selected, using the mouse drag and drop method on the selected swimlane to place it in the desired position.
+
This article is focused on using the Column Splitting feature with OnePager Bundle Standalone and imported Asana source plans.

OnePager provides assistance by highlighting the selected swimlane first and as the selected swimlane is dragged up or down providing a red line with a pointer to tell you where the dragged swimlane is to be dropped (placed at the end of the operation.  Finally, releasing the mouse left-click button causes OnePager to place the selected swimlane in the designed or dropped position.
+
About Splitting and Parsing Fields
You must have at least one swimlane level showing in the chart so that you have a swimlane level cell to use in the procedure described above.  Only one swimlane can be moved at a timeTo move two or more swimlanes to new positions, the operations must be done separately.
+
The OnePager column splitting feature allows you to duplicate task bars when a task in your Asana source plan is assigned to multiple resources (or anything else)Because assignments from Asana often are comma-delimited, this feature enables OnePager to parse the comma-delimited list and create a unique task bar for each instance in the comma-separated list.

Moving a swimlane moves all the rows that are members of that swimlane. If there are multiple swimlane levels showing in the chart, selecting a higher level swimlane to move when there are lower level swimlanes as members also moves these lower level swimlanes. The Left#1 swimlane level is considered the highest level swimlane because it appears furthest to the left in the chart.  When all three swimlane levels are present in the chart, the hierarchy is Left#1, Left#2, and Left#3 as shown here:
+
Split Resource Names Example
Say you want to use color-codes on task bars/milestone symbols based upon your Asana source plan’s Assigned to column as shown below:

The examples provide below demonstrates this hierarchy. Swimlanes can be moved within a swimlane level or moved between swimlane levels.  Moving a swimlane makes the swimlane into a row maverick.

Moving  Swimlanes In the Chart - Example
+
Some of the entries in the Assigned to column consist of multiple, comma-separated items and some tasks only used one resource.  Without the column splitting feature, a chart created from these data and assigned task bar/milestone symbol colors based upon the Assigned to column looks like this:

For this example, only a single swimlane level is used to demonstrate the basic process.

Selecting a Swimlane to Move
+
OnePager, in this case, treats the entire string as an individual Assigned to value.  To provide more flexibility in displaying task bars that have multiple resources assigned, OnePager supports the concept of a column splitting.  This feature recognizes comma-separated values in a designated column and creates a separate task bar for each of the comma-separated values.

To move a swimlane, select the desired swimlane by clicking in its swimlane level cells as shown below:

Enabling Splitting
<center></center>
+
To use this feature requires turning ON the feature in the Asana Template Properties form you intend to use to make the chart.  The setting must be turned ON before the chart is created so launch OnePager Bundle from the desktop icon, click the NEW button on the OnePager Bundle Start form to access the OnePager choices form, select your Asana source plan, and type in the chart's title as shown here:
<!--<center>P70-12_10_1-(2-1)-07102020.png</center>-->
+

You can also select the swimlane by using the double-left-click to highlight the swimlane's label cell as shown here:
+
<center></center>

When you click the Next> button at the bottom of the form, OnePager accesses the second page of the OnePager choices form shown below:
<!--<center>P70-12_10_1-(3)-07102020.png</center>-->

Clicking the Edit current template button accesses the current Template Properties form.  Navigate to the Field Mappings tab on the form, check the Enable splitting on: checkbox to ON and (in this example) select the Assigned To column from the dropdown list provided.  The results are shown here:

Below is an example where a swimlane is selected and the mouse is moved slightly down:

Click the Save and use button to complete the process and close the current Template Properties form returning you to the second page of the OnePager choices form show above.
<!--<center>P70-12_10_1-(4)-07102020.png</center>-->

Split Resources in the Chart
<center></center>
+
Clicking the Create new chart button completes the process and creates the chart with the column splitting feature in use.  The chart with splitting looks like this:
<!--<center>P70-12_10_1-(5)-07102020.png</center>-->
+

When the mouse left-click button is released in the position shown above, OnePager moves the selected swimlane to that position as shown below:
+
<center></center>
 +
<center>P72-24_5_3-72-(2)-11022023.png</center>

<center></center>
+
In the chart with column splitting shown above, there are now several more task bars in the Chart Editor than there were before.  The task bar for Plate Movement is now split into two (2) separate task bars, one for each of the two resources assigned. The task bar for Centrifugal Barrier is now split into three (3) separate task bars, one for each of the three resources that were assigned to this task in the Asana source plan.  Each of the resources has a unique color assigned.  Each of the resources appears by itself in the Legend.  The Legend title shows the column name that is used for splitting the columns.
<!--<center>P70-12_10_1-(6)-07102020.png</center>-->
+

In the example above there is only the Left#1 swimlane level present in the chart.  As a result, moving a swimlane up or down in a single swimlane level chart results in placing it: (1) between other Left#1 swimlanes, (2) between the top most swimlane and the chart's top frame, or (3) between the bottom most swimlane and the chart's bottom frame.  In the single swimlane level chart, the ends of the highlighted red line or key resembles a T on its side.
+
With this feature, you can use column splitting just like any other column by using the dropdowns in the Template Properties form or Chart Properties form to assign colors, highlight task bars and milestone symbols, and to define and label rows and swimlanes.

The example given above applies equally well when it is desired to select a single swimlane cell and move it up in the chart.  When there are multiple swimlane levels present in the chart the highlighted red line and its key becomes more important as discussed below.
+
Splitting Resources and Task Links
Interpretation of the Key on the Highlighted Red Line
+
When task bars with Data-Driven or manual Task Links are split, the Task Links (Data-Driven and manual) are not shown.  Further, the Task Links that are now hidden and do not have entries in the Where are My Links? form.

+
The key displayed on the left side of the highlighted red line can point up or down or in both directions when moving a swimlane that is below the highest level swimlane showing in the chart.  The examples that follow use a chart with three swimlane levels showing in the chart.

Introduction

This article is focused on using the Column Splitting feature with OnePager Bundle Standalone and imported Asana source plans.

About Splitting and Parsing Fields

The OnePager column splitting feature allows you to duplicate task bars when a task in your Asana source plan is assigned to multiple resources (or anything else). Because assignments from Asana often are comma-delimited, this feature enables OnePager to parse the comma-delimited list and create a unique task bar for each instance in the comma-separated list.

Split Resource Names Example

Say you want to use color-codes on task bars/milestone symbols based upon your Asana source plan’s Assigned to column as shown below:

P72-24 5 3-72-(1)-11022023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(1)-11022023.png

Some of the entries in the Assigned to column consist of multiple, comma-separated items and some tasks only used one resource. Without the column splitting feature, a chart created from these data and assigned task bar/milestone symbol colors based upon the Assigned to column looks like this:

P72-24 5 3-72-(5)-11272023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(5)-11272023.png

OnePager, in this case, treats the entire string as an individual Assigned to value. To provide more flexibility in displaying task bars that have multiple resources assigned, OnePager supports the concept of a column splitting. This feature recognizes comma-separated values in a designated column and creates a separate task bar for each of the comma-separated values.

Enabling Splitting

To use this feature requires turning ON the feature in the Asana Template Properties form you intend to use to make the chart. The setting must be turned ON before the chart is created so launch OnePager Bundle from the desktop icon, click the NEW button on the OnePager Bundle Start form to access the OnePager choices form, select your Asana source plan, and type in the chart's title as shown here:

P72-24 5 3-72-(2A)-11022023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(2A)-11022023.png

When you click the Next> button at the bottom of the form, OnePager accesses the second page of the OnePager choices form shown below:

P72-24 5 3-72-(2AA)-11022023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(2AA)-11022023.png

Clicking the Edit current template button accesses the current Template Properties form. Navigate to the Field Mappings tab on the form, check the Enable splitting on: checkbox to ON and (in this example) select the Assigned To column from the dropdown list provided. The results are shown here:

P72-24 5 3-72-(2AAA)-11022023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(2AAA)-11022023.png

Click the Save and use button to complete the process and close the current Template Properties form returning you to the second page of the OnePager choices form show above.

Split Resources in the Chart

Clicking the Create new chart button completes the process and creates the chart with the column splitting feature in use. The chart with splitting looks like this:

P72-24 5 3-72-(2)-11022023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(2)-11022023.png

In the chart with column splitting shown above, there are now several more task bars in the Chart Editor than there were before. The task bar for Plate Movement is now split into two (2) separate task bars, one for each of the two resources assigned. The task bar for Centrifugal Barrier is now split into three (3) separate task bars, one for each of the three resources that were assigned to this task in the Asana source plan. Each of the resources has a unique color assigned. Each of the resources appears by itself in the Legend. The Legend title shows the column name that is used for splitting the columns.

With this feature, you can use column splitting just like any other column by using the dropdowns in the Template Properties form or Chart Properties form to assign colors, highlight task bars and milestone symbols, and to define and label rows and swimlanes.

Splitting Resources and Task Links

When task bars with Data-Driven or manual Task Links are split, the Task Links (Data-Driven and manual) are not shown. Further, the Task Links that are now hidden and do not have entries in the Where are My Links? form.
