We’ll discuss on each of these topics in this articleThese topics apply equally to OnePager Express as the do for OnePager Pro and to both the Add-in and Desktop applications.

The OnePager column splitting feature allows you to duplicate task bars when a task in your Asana source plan is assigned to multiple resources (or anything else)Because assignments from Asana often are comma-delimited, this feature enables OnePager to parse the comma-delimited list and create a unique task bar for each instance in the comma-separated list.

Finding Available Template Properties Forms and Changing the Current Template Properties Forms
+
Split Resource Names Example
OnePager is distributed with a fairly comprehensive set of Template Properties forms.  By default, the out of the box Template Properties form is the Single Project Gantt View – Detailed template. Template Properties forms are stored in separate folders.  In addition, OnePager separates the Template Properties forms into those that use English measuring units (inches), those that use Metric measuring units (centimeters), and Legacy Templates (created prior to the version 5.3 release).  To locate your available Template Properties form, launch the Template Properties form by clicking the Templates… button on the Microsoft Project or Excel tool bar.
+
Say you want to use color-codes on task bars/milestone symbols based upon your Asana source plan’s Assigned to column as shown below:

Alternatively, when using the OnePager Desktop application, launch the application and go to the File ribbon tool bar tab and locate the Template button on the Options tab. Clicking the Template button accesses the Template Properties form as shown below. Click the File button on the Template Properties form's tool bar and click the Open… command.  The result is shown below:
+

<center></center>
+
Some of the entries in the Assigned to column consist of multiple, comma-separated items and some tasks only used one resource. Without the column splitting feature, a chart created from these data and assigned task bar/milestone symbol colors based upon the Assigned to column looks like this:
<!--<center>P70-24_6_1-70-(1)-12022020.png</center>-->
+

Hovering over a RECENT Template chart file name reveals the path name to the associated Template Properties form being used by that chart file name.  To see your available Template Properties forms, click the BROWSE… option to access the Microsoft Windows Explorer window showing your available Template Properties forms in their folder:
+
<center></center>

<center></center>
+
OnePager, in this case, treats the entire string as an individual Assigned to value. To provide more flexibility in displaying task bars that have multiple resources assigned, OnePager supports the concept of a column splitting.  This feature recognizes comma-separated values in a designated column and creates a separate task bar for each of the comma-separated values.
<!--<center>P70-24_6_1-70-(2)-12022020.png</center>-->
+

Select the Template Properties form file you need and then click the Open button.  This establishes the selected Template Properties form as the current Template.  Any new charts created from this point on uses this selected Template Properties form.
+
Enabling Splitting
Using the Selected Template Properties Form
+
To use this feature requires turning ON the feature in the Asana Template Properties form you intend to use to make the chart.  The setting must be turned ON before the chart is created so launch OnePager Bundle from the desktop icon, click the NEW button on the OnePager Bundle Start form to access the OnePager choices form, select your Asana source plan, and type in the chart's title as shown here:

As discussed in the sub-section above, after you have located the desired Template Properties form and have the Template Properties form displayed on the screen, just click the Use button to close the form.

Clicking the Edit current template button accesses the current Template Properties form.  Navigate to the Field Mappings tab on the form, check the Enable splitting on: checkbox to ON and (in this example) select the Assigned To column from the dropdown list provided. The results are shown here:

You can create a new Template Properties form so that you can make the chart settings you need to support your presentations or to establish as standard in your organization.
+
Click the Save and use button to complete the process and close the current Template Properties form returning you to the second page of the OnePager choices form show above.

To create a new Template Properties form, launch the Template Properties form with the Template… button on the Microsoft Project or Excel tool bar.  When the Template Properties form appears, select the File command and the click New… option as shown here:

Clicking the Create new chart button completes the process and creates the chart with the column splitting feature in use.  The chart with splitting looks like this:
<!--<center>P70-24_6_1-70-(5)-12022020.png</center>-->
+

As shown above, clicking the New... command in the File dropdown causes OnePager to create a temporary Template Properties form name and show that the Template Properties form is (unsaved). At this point go ahead and make your edits to the settings on one or more of the Template Properties form's tabs. When you are finished with your edits, you need to save your new Template Properties form and give it a file name appropriate to the project or organization.  To do this, again, click the File button on the Template Properties form's tool bar and then click either the Save or the Save As… options as shown below:

You can save the Template Properties form you’ve just created or updated either with the OnePager generated name or with a name of your choosing.  You can also save the Template Properties form just created or updated with the OnePager generated name and make it the Current Template by clicking the Save and use button at the bottom of the Template Properties form.  To save the new or modified Template Properties form with your own file name, click the Save As… option in the File dropdown.
+
With this feature, you can use column splitting just like any other column by using the dropdowns in the Template Properties form or Chart Properties form to assign colors, highlight task bars and milestone symbols, and to define and label rows and swimlanes.

The Microsoft Windows Save form appears and you can choose the file name and save the Template Properties form as shown below:

Introduction

This article is focused on using the Column Splitting feature with OnePager Bundle Standalone and imported Asana source plans.

About Splitting and Parsing Fields

The OnePager column splitting feature allows you to duplicate task bars when a task in your Asana source plan is assigned to multiple resources (or anything else). Because assignments from Asana often are comma-delimited, this feature enables OnePager to parse the comma-delimited list and create a unique task bar for each instance in the comma-separated list.

Split Resource Names Example

Say you want to use color-codes on task bars/milestone symbols based upon your Asana source plan’s Assigned to column as shown below:

P72-24 5 3-72-(1)-11022023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(1)-11022023.png

Some of the entries in the Assigned to column consist of multiple, comma-separated items and some tasks only used one resource. Without the column splitting feature, a chart created from these data and assigned task bar/milestone symbol colors based upon the Assigned to column looks like this:

P72-24 5 3-72-(5)-11272023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(5)-11272023.png

OnePager, in this case, treats the entire string as an individual Assigned to value. To provide more flexibility in displaying task bars that have multiple resources assigned, OnePager supports the concept of a column splitting. This feature recognizes comma-separated values in a designated column and creates a separate task bar for each of the comma-separated values.

Enabling Splitting

To use this feature requires turning ON the feature in the Asana Template Properties form you intend to use to make the chart. The setting must be turned ON before the chart is created so launch OnePager Bundle from the desktop icon, click the NEW button on the OnePager Bundle Start form to access the OnePager choices form, select your Asana source plan, and type in the chart's title as shown here:

P72-24 5 3-72-(2A)-11022023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(2A)-11022023.png

When you click the Next> button at the bottom of the form, OnePager accesses the second page of the OnePager choices form shown below:

P72-24 5 3-72-(2AA)-11022023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(2AA)-11022023.png

Clicking the Edit current template button accesses the current Template Properties form. Navigate to the Field Mappings tab on the form, check the Enable splitting on: checkbox to ON and (in this example) select the Assigned To column from the dropdown list provided. The results are shown here:

P72-24 5 3-72-(2AAA)-11022023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(2AAA)-11022023.png

Click the Save and use button to complete the process and close the current Template Properties form returning you to the second page of the OnePager choices form show above.

Split Resources in the Chart

Clicking the Create new chart button completes the process and creates the chart with the column splitting feature in use. The chart with splitting looks like this:

P72-24 5 3-72-(2)-11022023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(2)-11022023.png

In the chart with column splitting shown above, there are now several more task bars in the Chart Editor than there were before. The task bar for Plate Movement is now split into two (2) separate task bars, one for each of the two resources assigned. The task bar for Centrifugal Barrier is now split into three (3) separate task bars, one for each of the three resources that were assigned to this task in the Asana source plan. Each of the resources has a unique color assigned. Each of the resources appears by itself in the Legend. The Legend title shows the column name that is used for splitting the columns.

With this feature, you can use column splitting just like any other column by using the dropdowns in the Template Properties form or Chart Properties form to assign colors, highlight task bars and milestone symbols, and to define and label rows and swimlanes.

Splitting Resources and Task Links

When task bars with Data-Driven or manual Task Links are split, the Task Links (Data-Driven and manual) are not shown. Further, the Task Links that are now hidden and do not have entries in the Where are My Links? form.
