Overview
Introduction
When text column cells and swimlane cells appear in the chart their contents are determined by data imported from your Microsoft Project or Microsoft Excel source plan. It may be necessary on occasion to edit the contents of these cells to support your schedule presentation goals and objectives.
+
This article is focused on using the Column Splitting feature with OnePager Bundle Standalone and imported Asana source plans.

It is not necessary to go back to your source plan and change the data and re-import that data to change text column cells or swimlane cells; changes can be made to individual or a set of selected cells in the Chart Editor. Within the Chart Editor, you can use the text column right-click context menu’s Edit text and Properties … commands or the swimlane level right-click context menu’s Edit swimlane label and Properties … commands to edit labels as well as other label properties.

The OnePager column splitting feature allows you to duplicate task bars when a task in your Asana source plan is assigned to multiple resources (or anything else).  Because assignments from Asana often are comma-delimited, this feature enables OnePager to parse the comma-delimited list and create a unique task bar for each instance in the comma-separated list.

In addition to editing text column cells and swimlane cells using the right-click context menu commands, you can edit Font properties and Alignment settings of text column cells and swimlane cells using controls on the OnePager Home ribbon tool bar tab’s Font and Alignment control groups. Since being able to edit requires first selecting the cells to edit, it may be beneficial to review the sections on selection methods for text column cells and swimlane cells at: Selection Methods Available for Multiple Text Columns <!--12.0.2-70--> and Selection Methods Available for Multiple Swimlane Levels <!--12.0.2-70-->

Some of the entries in the Assigned to column consist of multiple, comma-separated items and some tasks only used one resource.  Without the column splitting feature, a chart created from these data and assigned task bar/milestone symbol colors based upon the Assigned to column looks like this:

For the purpose of illustration, we’ll use the OnePager Pro chart below containing three swimlane levels and two text columns:

OnePager, in this case, treats the entire string as an individual Assigned to value.  To provide more flexibility in displaying task bars that have multiple resources assigned, OnePager supports the concept of a column splitting.  This feature recognizes comma-separated values in a designated column and creates a separate task bar for each of the comma-separated values.

In the chart with column splitting shown above, there are now several more task bars in the Chart Editor than there were before.  The task bar for Plate Movement is now split into two (2) separate task bars, one for each of the two resources assigned. The task bar for Centrifugal Barrier is now split into three (3) separate task bars, one for each of the three resources that were assigned to this task in the Asana source plan.  Each of the resources has a unique color assigned.  Each of the resources appears by itself in the Legend.  The Legend title shows the column name that is used for splitting the columns.

Editing the values of multiple swimlane cells is similar to editing an individual swimlane cell except that more cells are selected and the change made in the Edit text form is applied to all selected cells. If we select a sequence of swimlane cells using the SHIFT+Left-Click method to select the cells, right-click in one of the selected cells to access the context menu, and then click the Edit swimlane label command, the chart looks like this:

Editing Text Column Cells or Swimlane Cells Using the Home Ribbon Tool Bar’s Controls
+

+
When either single or multiple text column cells or swimlane cells are selected, they can be edited in terms of their Font properties and text Alignment using the Font and Alignment control groups on the OnePager Home ribbon tool bar tab as shown below:
+

+
<center></center>
+
<!--<center> P70-12_3_1-(13)-07222020.png</center>-->
+

+
Whenever you select a single or multiple cell, the two control groups above are enabled and you can use any of the controls shown above to edit the text in the selected cell or cells.
+

+
Editing Font Properties of Text Column Cells or Swimlane Cells
+

+
Using the edited multiple swimlane cells from the previous sub-section above as an example, we can decrease the font size of the selected cells as shown below:
+

+
<center></center>
+
<!--<center> P70-12_3_1-(14)-07222020.png</center>-->
+

+
Once the desired text column cells or swimlane cells are selected, you can use the Font control group’s buttons to edit the value to Bold, Italics, or Underline; increase or decrease the font size; or access the standard Color Chooser form and change the color of the label itself.  When there are multiple text column cells or swimlane cells selected, the edit is applied to all selected text.
+

+
Additionally, you can change the font type and its size by using the dropdown windows appearing above the six buttons in the control group. All these font properties are available in the Font properties form accesses by selecting a task bar/milestone symbol text, time axis cell text, or text within comment boxes as just a few examples.
+

+
Any edits made to cell labels using the Home ribbon tool bar tab’s controls are applied to all selected text. The methodology described above applies as well to editing the Font properties of text column cell labels.
+

+
Editing Alignment Properties of Text Column Cell Labels or Swimlane Level Cell Labels
+

+
As mentioned, when a text column cell or swimlane cell is selected, the Alignment control group on the Home ribbon tool bar tab is enabled so you can change the position of the text within the selected cell. If we continue with the example from the previous sub-section, we can change the position of all the selected text to vertically centered and horizontally centered in their respective cells by clicking the two center buttons in each row of the Alignment control group as shown here:
+

+
<center></center>
+
<!--<center> P70-12_3_1-(15)-07222020.png</center>-->
+

+
All the swimlane cells selected in the chart above are repositioned so that their text is positioned in the center vertically and horizontally within the cell.

Introduction

This article is focused on using the Column Splitting feature with OnePager Bundle Standalone and imported Asana source plans.

About Splitting and Parsing Fields

The OnePager column splitting feature allows you to duplicate task bars when a task in your Asana source plan is assigned to multiple resources (or anything else). Because assignments from Asana often are comma-delimited, this feature enables OnePager to parse the comma-delimited list and create a unique task bar for each instance in the comma-separated list.

Split Resource Names Example

Say you want to use color-codes on task bars/milestone symbols based upon your Asana source plan’s Assigned to column as shown below:

P72-24 5 3-72-(1)-11022023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(1)-11022023.png

Some of the entries in the Assigned to column consist of multiple, comma-separated items and some tasks only used one resource. Without the column splitting feature, a chart created from these data and assigned task bar/milestone symbol colors based upon the Assigned to column looks like this:

P72-24 5 3-72-(5)-11272023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(5)-11272023.png

OnePager, in this case, treats the entire string as an individual Assigned to value. To provide more flexibility in displaying task bars that have multiple resources assigned, OnePager supports the concept of a column splitting. This feature recognizes comma-separated values in a designated column and creates a separate task bar for each of the comma-separated values.

Enabling Splitting

To use this feature requires turning ON the feature in the Asana Template Properties form you intend to use to make the chart. The setting must be turned ON before the chart is created so launch OnePager Bundle from the desktop icon, click the NEW button on the OnePager Bundle Start form to access the OnePager choices form, select your Asana source plan, and type in the chart's title as shown here:

P72-24 5 3-72-(2A)-11022023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(2A)-11022023.png

When you click the Next> button at the bottom of the form, OnePager accesses the second page of the OnePager choices form shown below:

P72-24 5 3-72-(2AA)-11022023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(2AA)-11022023.png

Clicking the Edit current template button accesses the current Template Properties form. Navigate to the Field Mappings tab on the form, check the Enable splitting on: checkbox to ON and (in this example) select the Assigned To column from the dropdown list provided. The results are shown here:

P72-24 5 3-72-(2AAA)-11022023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(2AAA)-11022023.png

Click the Save and use button to complete the process and close the current Template Properties form returning you to the second page of the OnePager choices form show above.

Split Resources in the Chart

Clicking the Create new chart button completes the process and creates the chart with the column splitting feature in use. The chart with splitting looks like this:

P72-24 5 3-72-(2)-11022023.png
P72-24_5_3-72-(2)-11022023.png

In the chart with column splitting shown above, there are now several more task bars in the Chart Editor than there were before. The task bar for Plate Movement is now split into two (2) separate task bars, one for each of the two resources assigned. The task bar for Centrifugal Barrier is now split into three (3) separate task bars, one for each of the three resources that were assigned to this task in the Asana source plan. Each of the resources has a unique color assigned. Each of the resources appears by itself in the Legend. The Legend title shows the column name that is used for splitting the columns.

With this feature, you can use column splitting just like any other column by using the dropdowns in the Template Properties form or Chart Properties form to assign colors, highlight task bars and milestone symbols, and to define and label rows and swimlanes.
