The layout for the Rows/Swimlanes tab for OnePager Express is the same as the Rows/Swimlanes tab shown above for OnePager ProThe Rows/Swimlanes tab consists of three control groups which each have sub-control groups with specific controls and buttons to access sub-forms as discussed in the following sub-sections.
+
The Task Bars tab in the Chart Properties form is the same as the Task Bars tab in the Template Properties formAdditionally, it is possible to make edits in the Task Bars tab and have these edits mirrored in the Milestones tab of the Chart Properties form and vice versa.

This article is meant as an introduction to the Rows/Swimlanes tab of the Chart Properties form.

Please check the Related Links section below for more information on sub-forms accessible from the Task Bars tab: Related Links <!--21.3.1-70-->

OnePager Pro and Express are enhanced to support three (3) swimlane levels versus one swimlane level in previous versions.  Accordingly, there are certain additional controls that are provided for creating and managing  up to three swimlane levels instead of just one.  The enhancement to three swimlane levels necessitated a redesign of the Rows/Swimlanes tabs of the Template Properties and Chart Properties forms where this article overviews the changes to the Chart Properties form and points you to specific article that contain more detail.

Task Layout Sub-Control Group
+
Fill
The Rows control group gives you the option to layout task bars/milestone symbols in the chart in a Gantt chart layout or a Timeline layout where multiple imported tasks are represented in one row.  The row is the basic horizontal strip where task bars/milestone symbols are placed by OnePager when the chart is created or updated.  The most common layout option is the Gantt chart layout where one task bar/milestone symbol is occupies a row.  The Gantt chart layout is the default.
+
This dropdown menu shows the five (5) available task bar shape fill patterns or texture options as shown below:

OnePager Pro and Express are distributed with Template Properties forms that support both Gantt chart layouts and Timeline layouts.

<!--<center>P70-21_3_1-70-(3)-10152020.png</center>-->

For Timeline layouts there are additional options for aligning multiple task bars/milestone symbols and staggering overlapping task on the timelines.
+
Task Bar Height
For more information on the Row control group, please see the article at: Collecting, Formatting, and Sorting Task/Milestones into Rows <!--12.01.1-70-->

In the upper right corner of the form, there are three (3) controls that allow you change (1) the color of task bar shape's border, (2) the width of the border and (3) the border’s style as shown below with the Border Color dropdown clicked to access the standard Color Chooser form:
<!--<center>P70-21_2_1-70-(2)-10142020.png</center>-->
+

The Row Formatting form contains the controls for turning ON  and OFF all row borders and formatting row borders with respect to their color, line width, and dash type. Row borders may overlap borders for swimlane levels and the interior frame of the graph area.

For more information of Row and Swimlane Borders, please see the article at: Row and Swimlane Borders <!--12.04.1-70-->
+
Further, you have the capability to establish the border color to be the same as the task bar shape fill color which effectively makes the task bar shape border disappear. Clicking the dropdown button on the Border Color control accesses the standard OnePager Color Chooser form as shown in the above illustration. The Border Width control allows you to set the value for the width of the task bar shape's border in inches or centimeters depending on the Template that was originally used to create the chart.

Sorting Rows
+
There are five (5) Border Styles to select from with the default style set at Solid as shown below:

The controls in the Row Sorting sub-control group provides the capabilities for Sorting rows like Project (or Sorting row like Excel for OnePager Express) and using a source plan imported data field to control the sorting of rows in the chart.

Task Bar/Milestone Symbol Fill Color
Swimlanes
+
The Task Bar/Milestone Fill Color sub-control group provides two (2) options for assigning initial colors to task bar shapes and is shown below:

OnePager Pro and Express version 7.0 support three (3) swimlane levels and the controls are provided in the Swimlanes sub-tab of the Rows/Swimlanes tab of the Chart Properties form as shown below:
+
<center></center>
 +
<!--<center>P70-21_3_1-70-(7)-10152020.png</center>-->

<center></center>
+
You can specify a single color for all task bar shapes via the standard OnePager Color Chooser form when the Use on color: radio button is is checked ON.   More commonly, clicking the Color-code based on radio button allows you to select a field from your Microsoft Project source plan to assign a data driven color to each task bar.
<!--<center>P70-21_2_1-70-(3)-10142020.png</center>-->
+

Swimlane levels are contiguous sets of rows that you can be group together using the Group by values imported from your Microsoft Project or Excel source plan designated data field.
+
The data driven color assignment is sometimes referred to as round-robin color.  OnePager goes in sequence through the color palette and assigns a new color when it finds a new distinct value in the data.  If it finds more distinct values than there are colors in the palette, it starts over at the beginning of the palette and uses each color for a second data value, and so on. Also note that the Color-code based on selects a single data field that applies to both task bars and milestone symbols as shown here:

Swimlane Left#1, Left#2, and Left#3 Sub-Tabs
+
<center></center>
 +
<!--<center>P70-21_3_1-70-(8)-10152020.png</center>-->

OnePager supports up to three (3) swimlane levels that are named Left#1, Left#2, and Left#3.  These sub-tab names are consistently used throughout OnePager Pro and Express and in this documentation.  As a convention, the lowest numbered Left#n swimlane level appears in the chart to the furthest left along the left border of the chart and higher numbered Left#n swimlane levels appear in the next right position.  This scheme is intended to maintain a lowest to highest swimlane level numbering from left to right in the chart.  Text columns, when shown in the chart, appear to the right of the highest numbered swimlane level when swimlane levels are being shown.  When there are no swimlane levels shown in the chart text columns, if shown, are to the left of the graph area.
+
This is one of the few places where task bars and milestone symbols are constrained to have the same default behavior.

When swimlane levels are shown in the chart they are accompanied by a swimlane level name label that is either created by OnePager from the source plan’s designated data field for that swimlane level or you may provide your own swimlane level name label using controls provided and discussed below.
+
Mirror format settings between task bars and milestones
Swimlane Formatting… Button
+
This single checkbox sub-control is used so that you have the option to simply apply any property edits you make to task bars to milestone symbols without having to go to the Milestones tab of the Chart Properties form.

Each sub-tab in the Swimlanes tab of the Chart Properties form is associated with a Swimlane Formatting… button that access its Swimlane Formatting – Left#n form as shown below:
+
It is recommended that you check the Mirror format settings between task bars and milestones checkbox ON before making any edits in the tab.  That way, OnePager applies the edits to both task bars and milestones symbols from the start.  Task bar and milestone symbol fill colors are always mirrored regardless of the Mirror... checkbox being checked ON or OFF.

<center></center>
+
When this checkbox is checked ON, OnePager automatically makes any changes to Milestones properties that are made to Task Bar properties for all settings where a blue dot appears to the right of the setting as in the illustration below where the checkbox is checked ON:
<!--<center>P70-21_2_1-70-(4)-10142020.png</center>-->
+

There are three (3) identical Swimlane Formatting – Left#n forms, one for each swimlane level accessed by first clicking the desired Left#1, Left#2, or Left#3 sub-tab described above. The Swimlane Formatting – Left#n form’s Column Headings control group contains the controls for formatting the Column Heading’s attributes for the swimlane level including Font characteristics, Rotation, Alignment, and swimlane level heading’s background color.  The Swimlane Text control group controls the selection and formatting of the text that resides within the swimlane level name label cells shown in the chart.

The Swimlane Borders control group turns ON and OFF the swimlane level’s borders and controls their format in terms of color, line width, and dash type.
+
Task Bar Decorations Control Group
As mentioned above, swimlane borders may overlap row borders in the chart.  Additionally, when multiple swimlane levels are shown, these multiple swimlane level borders may overlap.
+
There are seven (7) decorations for task bars.  Each can be turned ON by checking the associated checkbox to the left of the control's label as shown here:

Sorting Swimlanes
The controls in the Swimlane Sorting sub-control group provides the capabilities for Sorting swimlanes like Project (or Sorting row like Excel for OnePager Express) and using a source plan imported data field to control the sorting of swimlanes in the chart.
+
Each of these decorations controls can be accessed by clicking the adjacent button as shown in the illustration above.  When any of the seven (7) decoration buttons are clicked, OnePager Pro accesses a form with specific controls to manage the decorations for that decoration type. What follows is a description of each of the specific control forms associated with each of the seven (7) decoration types:

Task Bar Label Position
<!--<center>P70-21_2_1-70-(6-2)-10142020.png</center>-->
+

There are five (5) identical Text-Column Formatting – Left#n forms. Each text column is accessed by first clicking one of the desired Left#1 through Left#3 sub-tab described above.  The Text-Column Formatting – Left#n form’s Column Headings control group contains the controls for formatting the Column Heading’s attributes for the text column including Font characteristics, Rotation, Alignment, and text column heading’s background color.  The Column Text control group controls the selection and formatting of the text that resides within the text column name label cells shown in the chart.  Because text column cells are associated with rows, text column border management is at the row level and controlled in the Rows control group of the Rows/Swimlanes tab of the Chart Properties form.
+
The default task bar label position is Best fit all directions as shown in the illustration below along with the other nine (9) available standard positions :

Additional Text Columns Sub-Control Groups
+
<center></center>
 +
<!--<center>P70-21_3_1-70-(14)-10152020.png</center>-->

In the Text Columns control group when the Display data from window contains a numeric or a date field, the Text Columns control group is supplemented with an additional sub-control group depending on the type of data field placed in the Display data from window. If the Display data from window contains a numeric type field, the Text Columns control group looks like this:
+
The default setting of Best fit all directions gives OnePager the flexibility to establish task bar/milestone symbol label positions that do not collide with other graphics in the chart.

<center></center>
+
One Pager's Text Label Collision Avoidance feature, discussed in brief next, provides you with a set of rules you can employ to tell OnePager how to position task bar/milestone symbol text labels in the chart.
<!--<center>P70-21_2_1-70-(7)-10142020.png</center>-->
+

If the Display data from window contains a date type field, the Text Columns control group looks  like this:
+
Smart Labeling Settings
<center></center>
+
As mentioned, OnePager has a Smart Labeling or the Text Label Collision Avoidance feature that attempts to avoid cluttered text labels appearing in the graph or at least to minimize the occurrences.  The controls available to you are shown below:
<!--<center>P70-21_2_1-70-(8)-10142020.png</center>-->
+

For more information on Text Columns, please see the article at: Creating and Formatting Text Columns <!--12.03.1-70-->

 +
<!--<center>P70-21_3_1-70-(15)-10292019.png</center>-->
 +

 +
The Enable smart labeling for task/milestone labeling checkbox enables the Smart Labeling controls when the checkbox is checked ON and disables the controls when the checkbox is checked OFF.  There are four (4) algorithm types available for you to enable/disable, set a specific parameter, and establish an algorithm priority among the set of four.
 +

 +
Wrap text up to
 +

 +
The Wrap text up to (value) lines algorithm tells OnePager, depending on the priority established, to take the text label string and wrap it into a maximum of lines up to the value set in the parameter. The default is set to 2 lines.
 +

 +
Stair steps up to
 +

 +
The Stair steps up to (value) levels algorithm tells OnePager, again depending on the priority establishes, to create a Comment box like structure that connects to the task bar/milestone symbol that holds the text label string.  The number of levels value is typically set to 1 meaning that the Stair step is positioned in the row immediately above the row containing the subject task bar/milestone symbol.  Higher number of level values increases the number of rows skipped in positioning the Stair step.
 +

 +
Truncate text to
 +

 +
The Truncate text to (value) characters algorithm tells OnePager to chop off an excessively long text label string up to and including the value number of characters and replace the truncated text label charters with the ... character so the modified text label string fits in the selected position.  The value number of charters setting is set to 20 characters including the ... character.
 +

 +
Shrink font by up to
 +

 +
The Shrink font by up to (value) percent algorithm tell OnePager to reduce the text label string's font size up to the percentage specified in the value until the reduced font size text label string fits in the selected position.

About the Task Bars Tab for OnePager Pro

The Task Bars tab page, shown below, lets you control the style and decoration of task bars. Additionally, within this tab are the controls for creating and managing conditional formatting rules.

P70-21 3 1-70-(1)-10152020.png

The Task Bars tab in the Chart Properties form is the same as the Task Bars tab in the Template Properties form. Additionally, it is possible to make edits in the Task Bars tab and have these edits mirrored in the Milestones tab of the Chart Properties form and vice versa.

Please check the Related Links section below for more information on sub-forms accessible from the Task Bars tab: Related Links

Default Task Bar Styles Control Group

Collected in this sub-control group are all the controls associated with defining or changing the properties of task bars properties. These controls include:

Shape

The dropdown menu shows a lengthy variety of task bar shapes available for use as shown here:

P70-21 3 1-70-(2)-10152020.png

Fill

This dropdown menu shows the five (5) available task bar shape fill patterns or texture options as shown below:

P70-21 3 1-70-(3)-10152020.png

Task Bar Height

These two (2) radio buttons and their associated values allow you to set the task bar height as an absolute quantity (inches or centimeters) or as a percentage of the row height, which is shown in parentheses for reference as shown here:

P70-21 3 1-70-(4)-10152020.png

Border Controls

In the upper right corner of the form, there are three (3) controls that allow you change (1) the color of task bar shape's border, (2) the width of the border and (3) the border’s style as shown below with the Border Color dropdown clicked to access the standard Color Chooser form:

P70-21 3 1-70-(5)-10152020.png

Further, you have the capability to establish the border color to be the same as the task bar shape fill color which effectively makes the task bar shape border disappear. Clicking the dropdown button on the Border Color control accesses the standard OnePager Color Chooser form as shown in the above illustration. The Border Width control allows you to set the value for the width of the task bar shape's border in inches or centimeters depending on the Template that was originally used to create the chart.

There are five (5) Border Styles to select from with the default style set at Solid as shown below:

P70-21 3 1-70-(6)-10152020.png

Task Bar/Milestone Symbol Fill Color

The Task Bar/Milestone Fill Color sub-control group provides two (2) options for assigning initial colors to task bar shapes and is shown below:

P70-21 3 1-70-(7)-10152020.png

You can specify a single color for all task bar shapes via the standard OnePager Color Chooser form when the Use on color: radio button is is checked ON. More commonly, clicking the Color-code based on radio button allows you to select a field from your Microsoft Project source plan to assign a data driven color to each task bar.

P70-21 3 1-70-(8)-10152020.png

This is one of the few places where task bars and milestone symbols are constrained to have the same default behavior.

Mirror format settings between task bars and milestones

This single checkbox sub-control is used so that you have the option to simply apply any property edits you make to task bars to milestone symbols without having to go to the Milestones tab of the Chart Properties form.

When this checkbox is checked ON, OnePager automatically makes any changes to Milestones properties that are made to Task Bar properties for all settings where a blue dot appears to the right of the setting as in the illustration below where the checkbox is checked ON:

P70-21 3 1-70-(9)-10152020.png

Task Bar Decorations Control Group

There are seven (7) decorations for task bars. Each can be turned ON by checking the associated checkbox to the left of the control's label as shown here:

P70-21 3 1-70-(10)-10152020.png

Each of these decorations' controls can be accessed by clicking the adjacent button as shown in the illustration above. When any of the seven (7) decoration buttons are clicked, OnePager Pro accesses a form with specific controls to manage the decorations for that decoration type. What follows is a description of each of the specific control forms associated with each of the seven (7) decoration types:

Task Bar Label Properties... Button and The Set Label Properties Form

Clicking Task Bar Label Properties... button accesses the Set Label Properties form shown below wherein the source plan field name for the task, task bar label font properties, label positions, and label text collision avoidance controls can be set as shown here:

P70-21 3 1-70-(11)-10152020.png

Task Bar Name Field Selection

The Set Label Properties form's Label field dropdown as shown below allows you to access the full list of source plan field names imported by OnePager and select from the dropdown the field name OnePager uses to provide a visible task label into the chart for each visible task bar/milestone symbol:

P70-21 3 1-70-(12)-10292019.png

Task Bar Label Font Properties

Clicking the Label font dropdown button accesses the standard OnePager Font properties form as shown below:

P70-21 3 1-70-(13)-10292019.png

The standard Font properties form allows you to set the Label text's font type, color using the standard Color Chooser form, the font size in pixels, and the Bold - Italics - Underline settings.

Task Bar Label Position

The default task bar label position is Best fit all directions as shown in the illustration below along with the other nine (9) available standard positions :

P70-21 3 1-70-(14)-10152020.png

The default setting of Best fit all directions gives OnePager the flexibility to establish task bar/milestone symbol label positions that do not collide with other graphics in the chart.

One Pager's Text Label Collision Avoidance feature, discussed in brief next, provides you with a set of rules you can employ to tell OnePager how to position task bar/milestone symbol text labels in the chart.

Smart Labeling Settings

As mentioned, OnePager has a Smart Labeling or the Text Label Collision Avoidance feature that attempts to avoid cluttered text labels appearing in the graph or at least to minimize the occurrences. The controls available to you are shown below:

P70-21 3 1-70-(15)-10292019.png

The Enable smart labeling for task/milestone labeling checkbox enables the Smart Labeling controls when the checkbox is checked ON and disables the controls when the checkbox is checked OFF. There are four (4) algorithm types available for you to enable/disable, set a specific parameter, and establish an algorithm priority among the set of four.

Wrap text up to

The Wrap text up to (value) lines algorithm tells OnePager, depending on the priority established, to take the text label string and wrap it into a maximum of lines up to the value set in the parameter. The default is set to 2 lines.

Stair steps up to

The Stair steps up to (value) levels algorithm tells OnePager, again depending on the priority establishes, to create a Comment box like structure that connects to the task bar/milestone symbol that holds the text label string. The number of levels value is typically set to 1 meaning that the Stair step is positioned in the row immediately above the row containing the subject task bar/milestone symbol. Higher number of level values increases the number of rows skipped in positioning the Stair step.

Truncate text to

The Truncate text to (value) characters algorithm tells OnePager to chop off an excessively long text label string up to and including the value number of characters and replace the truncated text label charters with the ... character so the modified text label string fits in the selected position. The value number of charters setting is set to 20 characters including the ... character.

Shrink font by up to

The Shrink font by up to (value) percent algorithm tell OnePager to reduce the text label string's font size up to the percentage specified in the value until the reduced font size text label string fits in the selected position.
