About the Rows and Swimlanes Tab

1) This tab, shown below, lets you control collection of task/milestone shapes into rows, group rows into swimlanes, order rows and swimlanes, manage row/swimlane borders, and label rows and swimlanes.

Rows

1) The row is the basic horizontal strip where tasks/milestone shapes can be placed.

2) By far the most common approach is to place one task shape or milestone shape in each row.

3) Additionally, this control group also lets you collect several tasks/milestone shapes into each row based on values from a Microsoft Project or a Microsoft Excel source plan data field.

Swimlanes

4) Swimlanes are contiguous sets of rows that you can group together using values from a Microsoft Project or Microsoft Excel source plan data field.

5) For example, you can group all rows containing task shapes with the same value of Resource Name into a swimlane.

6) You can have up to three (3) Swimlane levels defined in a chart using appropriate source plan data fields to specify the grouping of rows and subordinate swimlanes into higher level swimlanes.

Row and Swimlane Labels

7) Rows and swimlanes can have optional labels whose text can be extracted from your Microsoft Project or Microsoft Excel source plan data fields.

8) For rows, there is an option to construct multiple text columns from data imported from your Microsoft Project or Microsoft Excel source plan.

9) For more information on Creating and editing rows and swimlanes, please see the article at: Creating and Editing Rows and Swimlanes (Portal) 12.0.1-61 for more information

10) Additionally, checking the Repeat on all pages checkbox places text columns and/or swimlane labels on all pages in a multi-page output.

11) If the Repeat on all pages checkbox is unchecked or Off, OnePager displays them only on the left most page of multi-page outputs.

Ordering Rows and Swimlanes

12) Rows and swimlanes can be ordered in sequences controlled by imported source plan data.

13) Rows are can be ordered in the same sequence as task shapes and milestone shapes imported from your Microsoft Project or Microsoft Excel source plan.

14) Rows can also be ordered by a set of values you designate from your Microsoft Project or Microsoft Excel source plan data field.

15) Swimlanes can be ordered in a similar fashion.

Borders and Frames

16) Clicking the Format borders… button brings the Set line properties form:

P52-21 1 2-(2)06052015.png

17) In addition to configuring row and swimlane border appearance, this form lets you control the appearance of the time cursor, the inner frame of the graph area and the outer frame of the document area through the various tabs on the form.

18) There are controls for changing border line color, line width, type of dash pattern, and presence of upper/lower borders.

19) Border type selections create some interesting combinations when adjacent rows are individually changed.

20) The same is true for adjacent swimlanes.

21) When rows adjacent to a swimlane border are being adjusted, care should be taken to make sure that the visual effect is the one desired.

22) For more information on the controls available for Row and swimlane borders please see the article at: Row and Swimlane Borders. 12.7.1-61
