About Legend Editing
In addition to showing and hiding the Legend on all pages or some pages, OnePager provides the controls in the Chart Properties form and the Template Properties form to make Legend position decisions for the entire document and chart.   These controls allow you to position the Legend either inside the graph area or on the document area at various points.
+
The Legend can be shown or hidden in the chart as described in the article at: Managing the Legend in the Chart <!--15.1.1-70-->

The graph area is the rectangle that contains all the task bars and milestone symbols, excluding text columns and swimlane labels, time axis annotations, margins, headers, footers, and the chart title.
+
Additionally, the above article reference describes on how to move and resize the Legend in the chart.

The document area is the entirety of the OnePager document with a specified page width and height and contains the graph area.
+
Further, Legend positioning options are discussed in the article at: Legend Position Options for Multi-Page Outputs <!--15.2.1-70-->

To better explain the Legend positioning options, the  illustration below shows how subdivisions of a page in a OnePager chart is defined:
+
The purpose of this article is to describe:

<center></center>
+
:1) The controls available for editing the Legend globally before a chart is created
<!--<center>P70-28_0_1-70-(1)-12032020.png</center>-->
+

The concepts for Legend docking applies to both single and multi-page charts.    The concepts for Legend anchoring applies only to multi-page charts.

:4) Editing individual Legend items with their context menu.

Additional Legend Positioning Considerations
+
Legend Global Editing
When creating multi-page charts, some additional thought must be given to Legend positioning
+
Global settings for the Legend are found in the Template Properties form’s Legend tab as shown below:

There are four (4) options available in OnePager for setting the initial position of the Legend for single and multi-page charts:
+
<center></center>
 +
<!--<center>P70-15_1_1-70-(4-1)-09152020.png</center>-->

:1) Docked to page – Place the Legend at one of eight (8) predetermined positions along the edges of the page.
+
As shown above, the controls in the Legend tab are enabled when the Show legend checkbox is checked ON. Otherwise, all the controls in the Legend tab are disabled.

:2) Docked to graph – Place the Legend at one of (8) predetermined positions along the edges of the graph area.
+
Above are the default setting for the Legend provided with all distributed Template Properties forms for OnePager Pro.  Making edits to these settings impacts the Legend’s properties for all charts created with the edited Template Properties form.  These Legend settings are carried forward to the Chart Properties form for all charts created with the associated Template Properties form and its settings in the Legend tab.  Since the controls shown above for the Template Properties form’s Legend tab are identical to the controls for the Legend tab in the Chart Properties form, discussion of each control is focused on the Chart Properties form’s Legend tab in the section that follows.

:3) Free Floating – Without using any of the predetermined positions, this option places the Legend at an arbitrary location outside the graph area.
+
Using the Chart Properties Form’s Legend Tab
:4) Anchored to page - Place the Legend at a fixed distance reference point from one of the eight (8) predetermined positions and maintains this distance on all pages where the Legend is displayed.
+
The Legend tab for the Chart Properties form looks like this:

Visualizing Docking and Anchoring
+
<center></center>
 +
<!--<center>P70-15_3_1-70-(2-1)-09152020.png</center>-->

To assist you with visualizing the definitions of docking and anchoring in this context, here is an analogy supported by an illustrationSuppose that we think of the sixteen (16) predetermined positions as berths in a harbor with two piers for berthing boats, one on the perimeter of the harbor and one pier on an island.
+
As with the Template form’s Legend tab, the controls in the Chart Properties form’s Legend tab are not enabled and cannot be edited until the Show legend checkbox is checked ONIn the sub-sections that follow, each of the control groups and controls are discussed in detail.

The eight berths along the shore (i.e., perimeter of the harbor) correspond to the predetermined positions associated with the document area and the eight (8) berths around the island correspond to the predetermined positions associated with the graph area.  The diagram below is a picture of the harbor with the island with their available berths:
+
Layout Control Group
<center></center>
+
The Layout control group consists of two (2) radio buttons that position the Legend either vertically in the chart or horizontally in the chart. The default setting is Vertical and OnePager positions the Legend, when shown, in the upper right corner of the graph.  The illustration below shows the Legend with the Horizontal radio button selected.
<!--<center>P70-15_2_1-70-(1)-12112020.png</center>-->
+

Now, thinking of the Legend as the boat and each of the four (4) berthing options as the OnePager Legend positioning options, we can carry the analogy a bit further:
+
<center></center>
 +
<!--<center>P70-15_3_1-70-(3)-10102019.png</center>-->

:1) Docked to page – Think of this as the boat in a harbor and assigned to one of eight (8) berths along the harbor’s perimeter where the boat is fixed tightly to the berth.
+
OnePager initially positions the Horizontal Legend at the bottom of the graph.  You can perform all the re-positioning, resizing, and editing operations on the Horizontal Legend as are available for the Vertical Legend.  Additionally, the Horizontal Legend’s context menu can be accessed as well as each individual Legend right-click context menu and all allowable edits can be made.  The Horizontal Legend can be reconfigured to the Vertical Legend at any time and any edits made to the Horizontal Legend are retained in the Vertical Legend.

:2) Docked to graph – In a similar way, think of this as the boat assigned to one of eight (8) berths around the island and fixed to the berth without any slack in the tie up lines.
+
Legend-Item and Legend-Title Font Editing Controls
:3) Free floating For this case, think of the boat in the harbor but not secured tightly to any of the sixteen available berthing positions.  This might be similar to a boat tied up to a buoy in the harbor.
+
There are two (2) sets of controls for editing font properties of the Legend-items and Legend-title.  For both sets of controls, clicking the dropdown button in the window to the immediate right of the control’s label access the standard Font properties form as shown below:

:4) Anchored to page – Here, think of our boat in the harbor but not tied up tightly to any one of the eight (8) harbor perimeter berths.  Rather, the boat is secured to the berth by a rope that keeps it a fixed distance from a berth itself along the harbor’s perimeter.
+

Using this analogy, what does the OnePager chart look like as a single page document and as a multi-page document using the four (4) options described above?
+
There are six (6) controls in the Font properties form shown above which are standard in most applications involving text editing.

:1) To make it clear, we use a sample chart where we’ve created the document with large margins to help illustrate the concept.
+
These controls include:

:2) The graph area is the OnePager chart component that contains all the tasks and milestones.
+
:1) The Font Style, implemented as a dropdown list, includes the font styles installed on your computer.

:3) The document area is the graph area PLUS text columns, swimlane labels, time axis, title, headers, footers, and margins.
+
:2) The Size control is a dial window where you can either click up or down or type in a desired font size integer value.

Dock to Page
+
:3)  Clicking the Color dropdown accesses the standard Color Chooser form.

The example Print Preview below places the Legend in the upper right corner of the document area in the single page chart where the right margin is larger for illustrative purposes:
+
:4)  The Bold button is a toggle that sets the selected text string as Bold text.

<center></center>
+
:5) The Italics button, also a toggle, sets the selected text string as Italic text.
<!--<center>P70-15_2_1-70-(2-1)-12112020.png</center>-->
+

In the above illustration, the Legend is docked to the upper right corner of the page meaning it is outside the graph area but contained within the document area.   If we change this chart to a 2 by 2 document of four pages with the same margin settings, the Print Preview looks like this:
+
:6)  The Underline button operates as a toggle that sets the selected text strings Underline.

<center></center>
+
Legend Position Controls
<!--<center>P70-15_2_1-70-(3)-10102019.png</center>-->
+

In the Print Preview above of the four page document with the Docked to page option, the Legend remains in the upper right corner of the page on all four pages.  The legend itself does not change dimensions.
+
The Legend position control group consists of a dropdown selection list and eight (8) radio buttons.  The four (4) selection options for the dropdown list as shown below:

Dock to Graph
+
<center></center>
 +
<!--<center>P70-15_3_1-70-(5-1)-09152020.png</center>-->

The example for Docked to graph shown in the Print Preview below places the Legend in the upper right corner of the graph area in the single page chart:
+
The detailed discussion and proper use of these controls can be found in the article at: Legend Position Options for Multi-Page Outputs <!--15.2.1-70-->

+
Legend Width and Height Resizing Controls
<!--<center>P70-15_2_1-70-(4)-10102019.png</center>-->
+

As shown above, the Legend is clearly docked in the upper right hand corner in the graph area.  For the multi-page Print Preview we changes the chart from a 1 by 1 to a 2 by 2 configuration and leave the Legend controls unchanged.  When we do this the Docked to graph presents a set of pages that looks as follows:
+
There two (2) controls are for editing the width and length of the Legend box in the chart as shown below

<center></center>
+
<center></center>
<!--<center>P70-15_2_1-70-(5)-10102019.png</center>-->
+
<!--<center>P70-15_1_1-70-(10-1)-09152020.png</center>-->

The Legend is clearly placed inside the graph area on all pages.  Also, since this example is for illustrative purposes, the Legend is oversize but nevertheless the same size as the Legend in the single page example previously.
+
Legend resizing using the controls in the Legend tab of the Chart Properties form is done exactly like using the corresponding controls for the Comment box at the Chart Properties form's Comment Boxes tab.

Free-Floating
+
Given the similarity, detailed instructions for using the resizing controls shown for the Comment box can be found in this section in article at:  Creating and Managing Comment Boxes-Box Size Controls for Comment Boxes. 13.0.1-70

The Free-floating option provide ultimate flexibility but can cause inconsistent results with multi-page outputs.  As mentioned above, this option is without any docking or anchoring at all and depends on where you place the Legend manually.
+
Background Color Controls
As an example in a single page document, suppose we are using the Free-floating option and place the Legend away from all docking points on the first page as shown below:
+
The Background color controls for the Legend are positioned below the Width and Height controls shown in the illustration above.  Clicking the window’s dropdown button accesses the standard Color Chooser form.  You can use the standard Color Chooser form to select a background color for the Legend as well as use employ the No fill feature to give the Legend an appearance of transparency.  As with resizing the Legend, the controls and approach for using the No fill feature is the same as the approach for Comment boxes.

<center></center>
+
Detailed instructions for using the No fill controls shown for the Comment box can be found in this section of the article at:  Creating and Managing Comment Boxes-Using the No fill Feature <!--13.0.1-70-->
<!--<center>P70-15_2_1-70-(6)-10102019.png</center>-->
+

In the chart above, we’ve manually placed the Legend where you see it - not totally outside the graph area and not totally inside the graph area.  When we change the pagination from 1 by 1 to 2 by 2 we get the following result:
+
Controlling Duplication of Legend Items
<center></center>
+
The OnePager Legend can show all task bars and milestone symbols even if several of them have the same Color and Shape.  This often resulted in unnecessarily busy-looking Legends.   There is a control in the Template Properties and Chart Properties forms at the Legend tab giving you a checkbox to specifically tell OnePager Do not duplicate task/milestones items in the Legend regardless of their differences in color and/or shape.   This is shown in the Chart Properties form’s Legend tab below:
<!--<center>P70-15_2_1-70-(7)-10102019.png</center>-->
+

Notice how the Legend moves around from page to page.  It doesn’t remain where we intended except on page 2 above.  This is because OnePager is trying to keep the Legend in a position relative to the two page breaks that define each page, while also keeping the Legend on the page.  Considering page 1 above, the Legend’s center is on the page break that defines the right edge of page 1.
+
<center></center>
 +
<!--<center>P70-15_3_1-70-(6-1)-09152020.png</center>-->

But OnePager doesn’t want to put the Legend off of page 1, so it puts the Legend as shown in page 1 above.
+
As an example, the Legend below shows both a blue milestone symbol item and blue task bar with the Do not duplicate tasks/milestones checkbox checked OFF:

Page 4 shows a similar hugging of the top graph area boundary and page 3 shows hugging the top of the graph area and right edges of the page.   Since, in this example, we wanted to place the Legend in a location centered between the right edge of the chart and the right edge of the document area, but the output with the Free-floating option does not preserve this intent.  To accomplish this we need to turn on the Anchored to page option presented next.
+
<center></center>
 +
<!--<center>P70-15_3_1-70-(7)-10102019.png</center>-->

Anchor to Page
+
When the checkbox is checked ON, only the task bar for each color appears in the Legend.  Legend items for milestone symbols can be suppressed by checking the Do not duplicate tasks/milestones checkbox is checked ON as shown below:

The Anchored to page option, when compared to the Free-floating option discussed above, provides better results in the multi-page presentations because the anchoring forces the Legend's center to maintain the same displacement from a reference location on every page.  Using the information from the eight (8) compass points, allows OnePager to replace the Legend's right edge hugging by a more sensible spacing from each page’s edges.
+
<center></center>
 +
<!--<center>P70-15_3_1-70-(8)-10102019.png</center>-->

We can also achieve consistent positioning by using the Docked to page option.  But if you want to move the Legend slightly away from these eight (8) predefined positions and still maintain page-to-page consistency, using the Anchored to page option is the solution.  Anchoring is a much more flexible way to position the Legend at a consistent location on the page.
+
On occasion, it can become necessary when checking the Do not duplicate tasks/milestones checkbox ON and OFF to right-click on the Legend and then click the Rebuild Legend command in the Legend right-click context menu as shown below:

Example
+
<center></center>
 +
<!--<center>P70-15_3_1-70-(9)-10102019.png</center>-->

To show an example, let’s create a single page chart with the margins expanded and the Legend positioning option set to the Anchored to page option. The resulting chart look like this:
+
Performing this action tells OnePager to re-scan the graph and rebuild the Legend to assure that the appearance of the Legend corresponds to the information displayed in the Chart Editor.

<center></center>
+
Make Title Automatically and Legend Title
<!--<center>P70-15_2_1-70-(8)-10102019.png</center>-->
+

If we now create a 2 by 2 document while using this Legend position and positioning option, we get the result shown below where the Legend is anchored to the upper-right corner of the page:
+
The Make title automatically checkbox, when checked ON (the default setting), tells OnePager to automatically generate the Legend title based on the Microsoft Project source plan field name selected for Task Bar/Milestone Fill Color on the Task Bars or Milestone tabs on the Chart Properties form shown here:

<center></center>
+
<center></center>
<!--<center>P70-15_2_1-70-(9)-10102019.png</center>-->
+
<!--<center>P70-15_3_1-70-(10-1)-09152020.png</center>-->

Above we see that all four pages of the document have the Legend positioned consistently in the same relative position.  Subsequent re-positioning of the Legend in the Normal or Page Break view modes correspondingly re-positions the Legend on each of the multiple pages.  Finally, it is important to note that anchoring achieves page-to-page consistency for non-in-the-margin locations too.
+
When the checkbox is checked OFF, as shown below, the Legend title window under the Make title automatically checkbox is enabled and you can enter any desired Legend title for the Legend box displayed in the chart.

However, being in a page consistent location on each page is no guarantee that the Legend does not obscure some task shapes and milestone shapes or text labels on some of the pagesIn practical terms, in-the-margin locations for the Legend are the safe bet for consistent Legend positioning in multi-page outputs.
+
<center></center>
 +
<!--<center>P70-15_3_1-70-(11-1)-09152020.png</center>-->
 +

 +
If the above illustrated edits are applied, the Legend looks like this:
 +

 +
<center></center>
 +
<!--<center>P70-15_3_1-70-(12)-10102019.png</center>-->
 +

 +
If the Make title automatically checkbox is subsequently rechecked ON, the Legend title window is disabled.  Its edited contents may remain in the window and the title of the Legend in the chart reverts to the Legend title selected for Task Bar/Milestone Fill Color on the Task Bars or Milestone tabs on the Chart Properties form as shown here:
 +

 +
<center></center>
 +
<!--<center>P70-15_3_1-70-(13-1)-09152020.png</center>-->
 +

 +
The Make title automatically checkbox and the Legend title window are disabled on the Template Properties form’s Legend tab.
 +

 +
Show Legend On: Control Group
 +

 +
The Show legend on: control group is provided to give you specific control over where the Legend is to appear on multi-page outputs.  The default setting in the Template Properties and Chart Properties form’s Legend tab is All pages.  You can click the Pages radio button in the control group to enable the entry of specific output page numbers or series of page numbers in the window to the immediate right of the radio button.
 +

 +
The entry window accepts:
 +

 +
:1) Single integer digit values separated by a comma.
 +

 +
:2) A starting page number followed by a dash and an ending page number.
 +

 +
:3) Combinations of these are acceptable if separated by a comma as shown below:

Show or Hide Legend Elements Control Group
 +

 +
The Show or hide legend elements control group provides options for how the Legend can be configured in the chart.  The Show or hide legend elements control group is shown here:
 +

 +

Freeze Legend When Updating
 +

 +
The Freeze legend when updating checkbox, where the default setting is OFF, prevents the Legend from being updated if new task or milestone items are found by OnePager when you add or replace a snapshot.  To prevent or freeze legend updates, check the Freeze legend when updating checkbox to ON in the Chart Properties form’s Legend tab as shown below:

The legend right-click context menu allows you to make adjustments to the overall format of the Legend itself with the following controls:
 +

 +
Hide Legend
 +

 +
Clicking the Hide legend command causes the Legend to disappear from the chart no matter where the Legend happens to be positioned.    To retrieve the Legend, go to the OnePager View ribbon tool bar tab and check the Legend checkbox in the Graphic Elements group ON.  You can also go to the Chart Properties form’s Legend tab and check the Show legend checkbox ON.
 +

 +
Unhide All Items
 +

 +
The Unhide all items command is disabled unless one or more Legend items in the displayed Legend are hidden.  When the Unhide all items command is enabled, clicking the command makes all previously hidden Legend items visible again.
 +

 +
Rebuild Legend
 +

 +
The Rebuild Legend command tells OnePager to scan the chart and rebuild the Legend from scratch, incorporating any changes that were made to specific task bars/milestone symbol's properties.  This is normally not necessary, but can be used if you think that the Legend has gotten out of sync with what is currently in the chart.
 +

 +
Edit Legend Title …
 +

 +
This command accesses Enter text form that  lets you edit the Legend’s title as shown below:
 +

 +
<center></center>
 +
<!--<center>P70-15_3_1-70-(20)-10102019.png</center>-->
 +

 +
Title Font…
 +

 +
Title font…  This command access the OnePager standard Font properties form shown below that lets you edit the six (6) font properties of the Legend title:
 +

 +
<center></center>
 +
<!--<center>P70-15_3_1-70-(21)-10102019.png</center>-->
 +

 +
Item Font…
 +

 +
This command also accesses the OnePager standard Font properties form shown above that lets you edit the six (6) font properties of all Legend item text appearing in the Legend (as opposed to the Legend’s title).  When edits are made using the OnePager standard Font properties form, all displayed text Legend items are edited.
 +

 +
Background Color…
 +

 +
This commands accesses the OnePager standard Color Chooser form that lets you select the background color for the Legend.  In addition to being able to use any color palette or color, you have the option to use the No fill feature for the Legend’s background.
 +

 +
Order
 +

 +
Clicking the Order command displays an additional sub-context menu as shown below:
 +

 +
<center></center>
 +
<!--<center>P70-15_3_1-70-(22)-10102019.png</center>-->
 +

 +
The sub-context menu for the Order command allows you to select any of the four (4) sub-commands that create the following results:
 +

 +
:1) Bring to front.  This sub-command puts the Legend in front of all other shapes in the chart.
 +

 +
:2) Send to back.  This sub-command puts the Legend behind all other foreground shapes in the chart (but not behind background shapes).
 +

 +
:3) Bring forward.  Selecting the Bring forward sub-command option steps the Legend’s Z-Axis position forward by one increment of Z-level.  This is not very useful.
 +

 +
:4) Send backward.  This sub-command steps the Legend backward by one Z-level.  This also is not very useful.
 +

 +
Editing Legend Items with the Legend Item Context Menu
 +

 +
Editing All Task Bars/Milestone Symbols in the Chart from the Legend
 +

 +
When the Legend and Legend items are displayed in the chart, a right click on a specific Legend item’s text or color bar accesses the Edit Legend Item form as shown here:
 +

 +
<center></center>
 +
<!--<center>P70-15_3_1-70-(23)-10102019.png</center>-->
 +

 +
You can also access the Edit Legend Item form by double-left clicking the color bar.
 +

 +
Edit Legend Item Form
 +

 +
The Edit Legend Item form has seven (7) specific controls for editing the Legend item’s text, the task bars/milestone symbol’s color, shape, and the position of the Legend item in the list of Legend items in the Legend as shown in more close up below:
 +

 +
<center></center>
 +
<!--<center>P70-15_3_1-70-(24)-10102019.png</center>-->
 +

 +
Show Legend Item Checkbox
 +

 +
This checkbox is checked ON as the Legend item is shown and can thereby access the Edit Legend item form.  Checking the checkbox OFF hides the selected Legend item after the OK button at the bottom of the form is clicked.  To restore the hidden Legend item to visibility, you must access the Legend’s context menu as described in the previous section and click the Unhide all items command which is enabled in this circumstance.
 +

 +
Legend Text Window
 +

 +
When the form is accessed, the Legend text window contains the Legend text associated with the selected Legend item.  To change the text content, type in the new Legend item text and either continue to edit or
 +
click OK to apply the change to the selected Legend item.
 +

 +
Color
 +

 +
Clicking the dropdown button on the Color control accesses the OnePager standard Color Chooser form which is used to change the color of all task bars/milestone symbols in the chart associated with the selected Legend itemMaking an edit of the color in this way updates the color of all task bars/milestone symbols associated with the selected Legend item in the current snapshot, historical snapshots, and all future snapshots where the associated task/milestone shape appears.  Some care needs to be exercised when using the No fill checkbox on the standard OnePager standard Color Chooser form as checking the No fill checkbox ON makes the task bar/milestone symbol essentially transparent.
 +

 +
To illustrate this, suppose that the Prime Legend item’s color bar is double-left clicked to access the Edit Legend Item form and the Color dropdown button is clicked to access the Color Chooser form where the No fill checkbox is checked as shown below:
 +

 +
<center></center>
 +
<!--<center>P70-15_3_1-70-(24A)-10132019.png</center>-->
 +

 +
After you check the No fill checkbox ON the Color Chooser form closes.  With the action taken in the Color Chooser form, click the OK button on the Edit Legend Item form and the Prime task bars in the chart look like this:
 +

 +
<center></center>
 +
<!--<center>P70-15_3_1-70-(24B)-10132019.png</center>-->
 +

 +
As a note,  unchecking the No fill checkbox to OFF is a three step process in this section in the article at:  Using the No Fill Option of the Color Chooser on Task/Milestone Fill Colors. 9.2.1-70
 +

 +
Marker Symbols for Task Bars
 +

 +
If you select a task bar’s Legend item, the list of available shapes in the Marker Symbol window scroll list consists of those shapes associated with task bars as shown below:
 +

 +
<center></center>
 +
<!--<center>P70-15_3_1-70-(24)-10102019.png</center>-->
 +

 +
Marker Symbols for Milestones
 +

 +
If you select a milestone symbol Legend item, the list of available symbols in the Marker Symbol window scroll list consists of those symbols associated with milestones as shown below:
 +

 +
<center></center>
 +
<!--<center>P70-15_3_1-70-(25)-10102019.png</center>-->
 +

 +
Sequence
 +

 +
The Sequence set of controls consist of an up arrow button, a down arrow button, and a window for the integer number position of the selected Legend item in the list.  If the selected Legend item is the top most Legend item in the list, the up arrow button is disabled because the selected Legend item cannot be moved further up in the list.  If the selected Legend item is the bottom most Legend item in the list, the down arrow button is disabled because the selected Legend item cannot be moved further down in the list. For any selected Legend item not occupying either a top or bottom position in the list, both up and down arrow buttons are enabled.
 +

 +
Clicking the up arrow button once moves the selected Legend item up one position in the list and decrements the value in the integer number window by one.  The action is applied to the Legend when you click the OK button at the bottom of the Edit Legend Item form.
 +

 +
In a similar fashion, clicking the down arrow button once moves the selected Legend item down one position in the list and increments the value in the integer number window by one.  The action is applied to the Legend when you click the OK button at the bottom of the Edit Legend Item form.  You can observe the position of any selected Legend item in the list by consulting the integer number in the window between the up and down arrow buttons.  Whenever the position of a selected Legend item changes in the list, the value of the integer number in the window is updated.
 +

 +
Editing a Single Task Bar/Milestone Symbol in the Chart and the Legend
 +

 +
Manually Editing A Single Task Bar
 +

 +
You can edit a single task bar/milestone symbol in the chart using the Change Task/Milestone Properties form as described in the article at: Changing Individual Task/Milestone Properties (Color, Shapes, Labels, etc.) <!--9.2.1-70-->
 +

 +
Some edits to individual task bar/milestone symbol properties can add entries to the Legend if the edit involves a change in color or shape.
 +

 +
Example
 +

 +
For example, suppose we select a single task bar in the chart with a left click and then click the Format… button on the OnePager Home ribbon tool bar tab to access the Change Task/Milestone Properties form as shown below:
 +

 +
<center></center>
 +
<!--<center>P70-15_3_1-70-(24C-1)-09152020.png</center>-->
 +

 +
Legend Updated
 +

 +
After making the desired task bar edit, click the OK button on the Change Task/Milestone Properties form and the chart and the Legend looks like this:
 +

 +
<center></center>
 +
<!--<center>P70-15_3_1-70-(24D)-10132019.png</center>-->
 +

 +
The single selected task bar exhibits its new shape and an entry for that shape is added to the Legend as a new Legend item.
 +

 +

About Legend Editing

The Legend can be shown or hidden in the chart as described in the article at: Managing the Legend in the Chart

Additionally, the above article reference describes on how to move and resize the Legend in the chart.

Further, Legend positioning options are discussed in the article at: Legend Position Options for Multi-Page Outputs

The purpose of this article is to describe:

1) The controls available for editing the Legend globally before a chart is created
2) Editing operations using the Chart Properties form
3) Editing the Legend in the chart with the Legend’s context menu
4) Editing individual Legend items with their context menu.

Legend Global Editing

Global settings for the Legend are found in the Template Properties form’s Legend tab as shown below:

P70-15 1 1-70-(4-1)-09152020.png

As shown above, the controls in the Legend tab are enabled when the Show legend checkbox is checked ON. Otherwise, all the controls in the Legend tab are disabled.

Using the Chart Properties Form’s Legend Tab

The Legend tab for the Chart Properties form looks like this:

P70-15 3 1-70-(2-1)-109152020.png

As with the Template form’s Legend tab, the controls in the Chart Properties form’s Legend tab are not enabled and cannot be edited until the Show legend checkbox is checked ON. In the sub-sections that follow, each of the control groups and controls are discussed in detail.

Layout Control Group

The Layout control group consists of two (2) radio buttons that position the Legend either vertically in the chart or horizontally in the chart. The default setting is Vertical and OnePager positions the Legend, when shown, in the upper right corner of the graph. The illustration below shows the Legend with the Horizontal radio button selected.

P70-15 3 1-70-(3)-10102019.png

OnePager initially positions the Horizontal Legend at the bottom of the graph. You can perform all the re-positioning, resizing, and editing operations on the Horizontal Legend as are available for the Vertical Legend. Additionally, the Horizontal Legend’s context menu can be accessed as well as each individual Legend right-click context menu and all allowable edits can be made. The Horizontal Legend can be reconfigured to the Vertical Legend at any time and any edits made to the Horizontal Legend are retained in the Vertical Legend.

Legend-Item and Legend-Title Font Editing Controls

There are two (2) sets of controls for editing font properties of the Legend-items and Legend-title. For both sets of controls, clicking the dropdown button in the window to the immediate right of the control’s label access the standard Font properties form as shown below:

P70-15 3 1-70-(4-1)-09152020.png

There are six (6) controls in the Font properties form shown above which are standard in most applications involving text editing.

These controls include:

1) The Font Style, implemented as a dropdown list, includes the font styles installed on your computer.
2) The Size control is a dial window where you can either click up or down or type in a desired font size integer value.
3) Clicking the Color dropdown accesses the standard Color Chooser form.
4) The Bold button is a toggle that sets the selected text string as Bold text.
5) The Italics button, also a toggle, sets the selected text string as Italic text.
6) The Underline button operates as a toggle that sets the selected text strings Underline.

Legend Position Controls

The Legend position control group consists of a dropdown selection list and eight (8) radio buttons. The four (4) selection options for the dropdown list as shown below:

P70-15 3 1-70-(5-1)-09152020.png

The detailed discussion and proper use of these controls can be found in the article at: Legend Position Options for Multi-Page Outputs

Legend Width and Height Resizing Controls

There two (2) controls are for editing the width and length of the Legend box in the chart as shown below

P70-15 1 1-70-(10-1)-09152020.png

Legend resizing using the controls in the Legend tab of the Chart Properties form is done exactly like using the corresponding controls for the Comment box at the Chart Properties form's Comment Boxes tab.

Given the similarity, detailed instructions for using the resizing controls shown for the Comment box can be found in this section in article at: Creating and Managing Comment Boxes-Box Size Controls for Comment Boxes. 13.0.1-70

Background Color Controls

The Background color controls for the Legend are positioned below the Width and Height controls shown in the illustration above. Clicking the window’s dropdown button accesses the standard Color Chooser form. You can use the standard Color Chooser form to select a background color for the Legend as well as use employ the No fill feature to give the Legend an appearance of transparency. As with resizing the Legend, the controls and approach for using the No fill feature is the same as the approach for Comment boxes.

Detailed instructions for using the No fill controls shown for the Comment box can be found in this section of the article at: Creating and Managing Comment Boxes-Using the No fill Feature

Controlling Duplication of Legend Items

The OnePager Legend can show all task bars and milestone symbols even if several of them have the same Color and Shape. This often resulted in unnecessarily busy-looking Legends. There is a control in the Template Properties and Chart Properties forms at the Legend tab giving you a checkbox to specifically tell OnePager Do not duplicate task/milestones items in the Legend regardless of their differences in color and/or shape. This is shown in the Chart Properties form’s Legend tab below:

P70-15 3 1-70-(6-1)-09152020.png

As an example, the Legend below shows both a blue milestone symbol item and blue task bar with the Do not duplicate tasks/milestones checkbox checked OFF:

P70-15 3 1-70-(7)-10102019.png

When the checkbox is checked ON, only the task bar for each color appears in the Legend. Legend items for milestone symbols can be suppressed by checking the Do not duplicate tasks/milestones checkbox is checked ON as shown below:

P70-15 3 1-70-(8)-10102019.png

On occasion, it can become necessary when checking the Do not duplicate tasks/milestones checkbox ON and OFF to right-click on the Legend and then click the Rebuild Legend command in the Legend right-click context menu as shown below:

P70-15 3 1-70-(9)-10102019.png

Performing this action tells OnePager to re-scan the graph and rebuild the Legend to assure that the appearance of the Legend corresponds to the information displayed in the Chart Editor.

Make Title Automatically and Legend Title

The Make title automatically checkbox, when checked ON (the default setting), tells OnePager to automatically generate the Legend title based on the Microsoft Project source plan field name selected for Task Bar/Milestone Fill Color on the Task Bars or Milestone tabs on the Chart Properties form shown here:

P70-15 3 1-70-(10-1)-09152020.png

When the checkbox is checked OFF, as shown below, the Legend title window under the Make title automatically checkbox is enabled and you can enter any desired Legend title for the Legend box displayed in the chart.

P70-15 3 1-70-(11-1)-09152020.png

If the above illustrated edits are applied, the Legend looks like this:

P70-15 3 1-70-(12)-10102019.png

If the Make title automatically checkbox is subsequently rechecked ON, the Legend title window is disabled. Its edited contents may remain in the window and the title of the Legend in the chart reverts to the Legend title selected for Task Bar/Milestone Fill Color on the Task Bars or Milestone tabs on the Chart Properties form as shown here:

P70-15 3 1-70-(13-1)-109152020.png

The Make title automatically checkbox and the Legend title window are disabled on the Template Properties form’s Legend tab.

Show Legend On: Control Group

The Show legend on: control group is provided to give you specific control over where the Legend is to appear on multi-page outputs. The default setting in the Template Properties and Chart Properties form’s Legend tab is All pages. You can click the Pages radio button in the control group to enable the entry of specific output page numbers or series of page numbers in the window to the immediate right of the radio button.

The entry window accepts:

1) Single integer digit values separated by a comma.
2) A starting page number followed by a dash and an ending page number.
3) Combinations of these are acceptable if separated by a comma as shown below:
P70-15 3 1-70-(14-1)-09152020.png

Show or Hide Legend Elements Control Group

The Show or hide legend elements control group provides options for how the Legend can be configured in the chart. The Show or hide legend elements control group is shown here:

P70-15 3 1-70-(15-1)-09152020.png

The default settings in the Template Properties and Chart Properties form’s Legend tab is to have the Title and Color/symbol items checkboxes checked ON. When the Gantt-bar diagram checkbox is checked ON, with the Title and Color/symbol items checkboxes checked ON as well, the Legend looks like this:

P70-15 3 1-70-(16)-10102019.png

When the Gantt-bar diagram and Milestone diagram checkboxes are checked ON, with the Title and Color/symbol items checkboxes checked ON, the Legend looks like this:

P70-15 3 1-70-(17)-10102019.png

Freeze Legend When Updating

The Freeze legend when updating checkbox, where the default setting is OFF, prevents the Legend from being updated if new task or milestone items are found by OnePager when you add or replace a snapshot. To prevent or freeze legend updates, check the Freeze legend when updating checkbox to ON in the Chart Properties form’s Legend tab as shown below:

P70-15 3 1-70-(18-1)-09152020.png

Editing the Legend with the Legend Context Menu

Legend Context Menu

Once the Legend is displayed in the chart, a right click in a white space area accesses the legend right-click context menu as shown here:

P70-15 3 1-70-(19)-10102019.png

Legend Context Menu Commands

The legend right-click context menu allows you to make adjustments to the overall format of the Legend itself with the following controls:

Hide Legend

Clicking the Hide legend command causes the Legend to disappear from the chart no matter where the Legend happens to be positioned. To retrieve the Legend, go to the OnePager View ribbon tool bar tab and check the Legend checkbox in the Graphic Elements group ON. You can also go to the Chart Properties form’s Legend tab and check the Show legend checkbox ON.

Unhide All Items

The Unhide all items command is disabled unless one or more Legend items in the displayed Legend are hidden. When the Unhide all items command is enabled, clicking the command makes all previously hidden Legend items visible again.

Rebuild Legend

The Rebuild Legend command tells OnePager to scan the chart and rebuild the Legend from scratch, incorporating any changes that were made to specific task bars/milestone symbol's properties. This is normally not necessary, but can be used if you think that the Legend has gotten out of sync with what is currently in the chart.

Edit Legend Title …

This command accesses Enter text form that lets you edit the Legend’s title as shown below:

P70-15 3 1-70-(20)-10102019.png

Title Font…

Title font… This command access the OnePager standard Font properties form shown below that lets you edit the six (6) font properties of the Legend title:

P70-15 3 1-70-(21)-10102019.png

Item Font…

This command also accesses the OnePager standard Font properties form shown above that lets you edit the six (6) font properties of all Legend item text appearing in the Legend (as opposed to the Legend’s title). When edits are made using the OnePager standard Font properties form, all displayed text Legend items are edited.

Background Color…

This commands accesses the OnePager standard Color Chooser form that lets you select the background color for the Legend. In addition to being able to use any color palette or color, you have the option to use the No fill feature for the Legend’s background.

Order

Clicking the Order command displays an additional sub-context menu as shown below:

The sub-context menu for the Order command allows you to select any of the four (4) sub-commands that create the following results:

1) Bring to front. This sub-command puts the Legend in front of all other shapes in the chart.
2) Send to back. This sub-command puts the Legend behind all other foreground shapes in the chart (but not behind background shapes).
3) Bring forward. Selecting the Bring forward sub-command option steps the Legend’s Z-Axis position forward by one increment of Z-level. This is not very useful.
4) Send backward. This sub-command steps the Legend backward by one Z-level. This also is not very useful.

Editing Legend Items with the Legend Item Context Menu

Editing All Task Bars/Milestone Symbols in the Chart from the Legend

When the Legend and Legend items are displayed in the chart, a right click on a specific Legend item’s text or color bar accesses the Edit Legend Item form as shown here:

P70-15 3 1-70-(23)-10102019.png

You can also access the Edit Legend Item form by double-left clicking the color bar.

Edit Legend Item Form

The Edit Legend Item form has seven (7) specific controls for editing the Legend item’s text, the task bars/milestone symbol’s color, shape, and the position of the Legend item in the list of Legend items in the Legend as shown in more close up below:

Show Legend Item Checkbox

This checkbox is checked ON as the Legend item is shown and can thereby access the Edit Legend item form. Checking the checkbox OFF hides the selected Legend item after the OK button at the bottom of the form is clicked. To restore the hidden Legend item to visibility, you must access the Legend’s context menu as described in the previous section and click the Unhide all items command which is enabled in this circumstance.

Legend Text Window

When the form is accessed, the Legend text window contains the Legend text associated with the selected Legend item. To change the text content, type in the new Legend item text and either continue to edit or click OK to apply the change to the selected Legend item.

Color

Clicking the dropdown button on the Color control accesses the OnePager standard Color Chooser form which is used to change the color of all task bars/milestone symbols in the chart associated with the selected Legend item. Making an edit of the color in this way updates the color of all task bars/milestone symbols associated with the selected Legend item in the current snapshot, historical snapshots, and all future snapshots where the associated task/milestone shape appears. Some care needs to be exercised when using the No fill checkbox on the standard OnePager standard Color Chooser form as checking the No fill checkbox ON makes the task bar/milestone symbol essentially transparent.

To illustrate this, suppose that the Prime Legend item’s color bar is double-left clicked to access the Edit Legend Item form and the Color dropdown button is clicked to access the Color Chooser form where the No fill checkbox is checked as shown below:

P70-15 3 1-70-(24A)-10132019.png

After you check the No fill checkbox ON the Color Chooser form closes. With the action taken in the Color Chooser form, click the OK button on the Edit Legend Item form and the Prime task bars in the chart look like this:

As a note, unchecking the No fill checkbox to OFF is a three step process in this section in the article at: Using the No Fill Option of the Color Chooser on Task/Milestone Fill Colors. 9.2.1-70

Marker Symbols for Task Bars

If you select a task bar’s Legend item, the list of available shapes in the Marker Symbol window scroll list consists of those shapes associated with task bars as shown below:

Marker Symbols for Milestones

If you select a milestone symbol Legend item, the list of available symbols in the Marker Symbol window scroll list consists of those symbols associated with milestones as shown below:

Sequence

The Sequence set of controls consist of an up arrow button, a down arrow button, and a window for the integer number position of the selected Legend item in the list. If the selected Legend item is the top most Legend item in the list, the up arrow button is disabled because the selected Legend item cannot be moved further up in the list. If the selected Legend item is the bottom most Legend item in the list, the down arrow button is disabled because the selected Legend item cannot be moved further down in the list. For any selected Legend item not occupying either a top or bottom position in the list, both up and down arrow buttons are enabled.

Clicking the up arrow button once moves the selected Legend item up one position in the list and decrements the value in the integer number window by one. The action is applied to the Legend when you click the OK button at the bottom of the Edit Legend Item form.

Editing a Single Task Bar/Milestone Symbol in the Chart and the Legend

Manually Editing A Single Task Bar

You can edit a single task bar/milestone symbol in the chart using the Change Task/Milestone Properties form as described in the article at: Changing Individual Task/Milestone Properties (Color, Shapes, Labels, etc.)

Some edits to individual task bar/milestone symbol properties can add entries to the Legend if the edit involves a change in color or shape.

Example

For example, suppose we select a single task bar in the chart with a left click and then click the Format… button on the OnePager Home ribbon tool bar tab to access the Change Task/Milestone Properties form as shown below:

P70-15 3 1-70-(24C-1)-09152020.png

Legend Updated

After making the desired task bar edit, click the OK button on the Change Task/Milestone Properties form and the chart and the Legend looks like this:

P70-15 3 1-70-(24D)-10132019.png

The single selected task bar exhibits its new shape and an entry for that shape is added to the Legend as a new Legend item.

For a more detailed information of other options, please see the section in the article at: Changing Individual Task/Milestone Shapes
