Managing the Graph X-Axis in OnePager for Version 8.0 (P80-7.3.25.3-80-04142026.docx)

Introduction to Graph X-Axis Properties Controls

Illustrations used in this article are from OnePager Pro Add-in and Standalone using data from Microsoft Project, however, Graphs & Data Cells features, functions, controls, and editing apply equally to all OnePager Add-in and Standalone editions that import from data sources like Microsoft Excel, Smartsheet, Oracle Primavera P6, Planisware Enterprise, Asana, and Wrike. At present Microsoft Planner source plans do not provide time-series data that can be processed and displayed by the Graphs & Data Cells feature of OnePager.

This article and the articles linked from here describe OnePager’s Graphs & Data Cells feature which provides you with the capabilities to show graphs of time-series data (e.g., Cost data) in graphic forms along with your Gantt/Timeline Charts. Additionally, the Graphs & Data Cells feature also provides you with the ability to show time-series data (e.g., cost data) imported from your source plan in tabular forms.

This article describes the controls in the Graph Elements control group of the Chart Properties form’s Graphs & Data Cells tab for managing and editing a Graph’s Panel X-Axis as shown below:

P80-7_3_25_3-80-(1-2)-03102026.png

The X-Axis checkbox is shown OFF and the X-Axis Properties button is shown disabled in the illustration above because these controls are only available for use when the configuration of the Panel has at least one Series of Column Graphs type Horizontally Pivoted.

Enabling Graph X-Axis Properties Controls

The X-Axis Properties controls are enabled for use when the Graph type selected is a Column graph and the Column graph is pivoted horizontally, or where multiple series are Splayed Horizontally. For all other combinations of Graphs and Graph Pivots (i.e., Vertically) the X-Axis Properties controls are disabled.

For illustration, a Horizontally Pivoted Cost graph Pivoted on Resource Names is shown below:

P80-7_3_25_3-80-(1A)-07102025.png

The Graph Elements control group shown above for the Chart Properties form has four controls that are applied to each Panel and Series within Panels. The four controls are enabled by checking the corresponding control checkbox ON or disabled by clicking the corresponding checkbox OFF.

Of interest in this article is the X-Axis Properties sub-control group. This sub-control group provides access to the controls that define, manage, and edit the X-Axis for the Panel and all the Series that are enabled within the Panel.

In order for the X-Axis Properties sub-control group to be enabled the Graph type selected must be the Column graph and the Column graph must be Horizontally Pivoted or Splayed Horizontally for multiple Series in a Panel. When these selections are made the X-Axis Properties sub-control group is enabled.

Accessing the Panel’s X-Axis Properties Form

In order to access the X-Axis Properties’ controls, it is necessary to check the X-Axis checkbox ON to the left of the X-Axis Properties… button. Once checked ON, the X-Axis Properties button is enabled and when clicked accesses the Panel’s X-Axis Properties – Panel #n form shown below:
File:P80-7 3 25 3-80-(2-1)-01192026.png
P80-7_3_25_3-80-(2-1)-01192026.png

The X-Axis Properties – Panel #n form has one (1) independent control and two (2) major control groups that are described in detail in the sections that follow.

X-Axis Properties – Panel #n Form – Title and Label Height Independent Control

The independent control for Title and Label Height is provided so that there is sufficient space between the bottom of the Panel and the top of another Panel, if enabled, or the top of the Chart area. The form is shown below:

P80-7_3_25_3-80-(3)-07102025.png

A Caution on the Selecting Values for the X-Axis Title and Label Height

Please keep in mind that the Title and Label Height selected is a component of the overall Graph Panel’s height set in the Panel #n sub-tab’s Graph Height control. This means that increasing the Title and Label Height DOES NOT add to the total Graph Height. Rather the Graph Height remains unchanged and the increased Title and Label Height causes the Horizontally Pivoted Column graph to be vertically compressed in the remaining Graph Height as shown below where the Title and Label Height is increased to 2.05:

P80-7_3_25_3-80-(4)-07102025.png

The reason for increasing the X-Axis Title and Label Height is to make room for un-wrapped X-Axis label text. However, it may be necessary to increase the Panel’s Graph Height as well in order to maintain a pleasing representation of the Horizontally Pivoted Colum graph. This is accomplished in the illustration below where the Panel’s Graph Height is increased from 2.5 to 4.0:

P80-7_3_25_3-80-(5-1)-01172026.png

Finally, also please keep in mind that the Panel’s Graph Height has an impact on the overall height of the Document containing the Chart area and the Graph area or areas. The Document height is controlled by settings in the Chart Properties form’s Page Layout tab as shown below:

P80-7_3_25_3-80-(6)-07102025.png

For more detailed information on controlling the height of the Document in the Page Layout tab of the Chart Properties form, please see the links provided in the table below:

X-Axis Properties – Panel #n Form – Axis Titles Control Group

The Axis Titles control group in the X-Axis Properties – Panel #n from has three (3) controls for managing and editing the X-Axis title as shown below:

P80-7_3_25_3-80-(7-1)-01172026.png

X-Axis Show title Checkbox and Title preview Window

The default setting for the Show title checkbox is checked ON. Since the X-Axis is only present for a Horizontally Pivoted Column graph, the Title preview window of in the Axis Title control group takes on the value of the Horizontal Pivot field imported from the source plan.

You also have the option to override the OnePager provided X-Axis title by clicking the Enter custom title checkbox ON which enables the Custom title window as shown below with sample text:

P80-7_3_25_3-80-(8)-07102025.png

Unchecking the Enter custom title checkbox to OFF has OnePager revert to the imported X-Axis title as shown below:

P80-7_3_25_3-80-(9)-07102025.png

OnePager retains the Custom title with the Chart when the Chart is saved so that the X-Axis Custom title can be used in the future, if desired. Blanking the X-Axis Custom title clears the text contained in the window for future use.

X-Axis Title Font Dropdown and Font properties Form

Clicking on the Title Font dropdown arrow accesses the standard OnePager Font properties form where you can edit the X-Axis title’s font, color, size, and other properties as shown here:

P80-7_3_25_3-80-(10)-07102025.png

X-Axis Properties – Panel #n Form – Labels Control Group

There are two controls in the Labels control group: (1) the Label font dropdown provides access to the standard OnePager Font properties form as discussed just above for X-Axis labels and (2) the Rotation control which provides three (3) rotation options for X-Axis labels.

X-Axis Label Font Dropdown and Font properties Form

Clicking on the X-Axis Label Font dropdown arrow accesses the standard OnePager Font properties form where you can edit the X-Axis label’s font, color, size, and other properties as shown here:

P80-7_3_25_3-80-(11)-07102025.png

X-Axis Label Rotation Control

The X-Axis Label Rotation control provides three (3) rotational options as shown here in the dropdown list:

P80-7_3_25_3-80-(12)-07102025.png

Given the constrained space typically found for Horizontally Pivoted Column graphs, the default Rotation option provided is Rotate 90 degrees. The Horizontal rotation option is only recommended where there is adequate room on the X-Axis to clearly show the X-Axis labels.

An example of the Rotate 90 degree option for the X-Axis labels is shown below:

Summary

The X-Axis Properties – Panel #n form is associated with each of the three Graph Panels available in the Graphs & Data Cells tab of the Template Properties and Chart Properties form. It is accessed at the Graph/Data Cells tab’s Graph Elements control group. When accessed, the X-Axis Properties – Panel #n form provides controls for defining and editing all components of a Graph’s typical X-Axis. The Panel’s X-Axis Properties sub-controls are only enabled when the Graph selected is the Horizontally Pivoted Column graph. These settings are snapshot independent.

The articles listed in the tables below provide detailed information on how to create and edit graphs & data cells using the OnePager Chart Editor Illustrations use OnePager Pro, but the features’ work the same in OnePager Express and OnePager Bundle.
