Managing Number Formats for Data Cells in OnePager for Version 8.0
Introduction to Number Formatting for Data Cells
Illustrations used in this article are from OnePager Pro Add-in and Standalone using data from Microsoft Project, however, Graphs & Data Cells features, functions, controls, and editing apply equally to all OnePager Add-in and Standalone editions that import from data sources like Microsoft Excel, Smartsheet, Oracle Primavera P6, Planisware Enterprise, Asana, and Wrike. At present Microsoft Planner source plans do not provide time-series data that can be processed and displayed by the Graphs & Data Cells feature of OnePager.
This article and the articles linked from here describe OnePager’s Graphs & Data Cells feature which provides you with the capabilities to show graphs of time-series data (e.g., Cost data) in graphic forms along with your Gantt/Timeline Charts. Additionally, the Graphs & Data Cells feature also provides you with the ability to show time-series data (e.g., Cost data) imported from your source plan in tabular forms.
This article describes the controls in the Formatting control group of the Chart Properties form’s Graphs & Data Cells tab in Data Cells mode, specifically the Number Format sub-control group as shown below:

The Number Format sub-control group shown above for the Chart Properties form has four controls that are applied to the Panel’s value data cell contents. The three controls include:
- 1) The Decimal places control for designating the number of decimal places to the right of the decimal point in each Data Cell Value.
- 2) The 1000 separator dropdown control provides options for separating large quantities with appropriate separator symbols such as a comma.
- 3) The Symbol dropdown control provides options for designating the numerical quantities in the Data Cell’s Value with Currency symbols and for Time-spans in hours or days. These controls are discussed in the sub-sections which follow.
- 4) The Multiplier dropdown controls provide options for scaling the Data Cell Value in order to save space and improve readability.
Number Format Control Group – Decimal places Control
The Decimal places control a roll up, roll down control with a default value of zero (0) as shown in the illustration in the previous section. When this is applied to the a Chart with a Panel #1 in Data Cell mode based on the imported source plan Cost field and expressed over timespans of Quarters, the Chart looks like this:

If the Decimal place control is increased to a value of two (2), the Number Format sub-control group looks like this:

When this edit is applied to the Graph area for Panel #1, the Chart looks like this:

As another example, supposed that Panel #2 is added to the Chart as Data Cells expressing Work on a Quarterly basis and expressed in Hours over the timespan. To do this, the Panel #2 sub-tab of the Graphs/Data Cells tab would look like the Chart Properties form below:

The setting shown above for Panel #2 show for the imported source plan field selected is Hours. Finally, the Symbol control in the Number Format sub-control group is changed to the Hours as this symbol is appropriate for the data being displayed. The Symbol control is discussed in a later sub-section of this article.
When these edits are applied to the existing Chart, it looks like the illustration below:

Here too the Decimal places control can be increased to two (2) to provide more precision to the Panel as shown below:

Number Format Control Group – 1000 separator Control
The 1000 separator dropdown control provides three options as shown below:

As shown in the illustration above, the Comma is the default selection with the option to use a Period or 1000 separator symbol. Should the None option be selected, the Panel’s Data Cell Values look like this:

Illustrations are provided above when the Comma 1000 separator symbol is used.
When the Period 1000 separator is used a Period (.) is placed between every third digits to the left of the decimal fraction. However, the “decimal point” which is typically a period (.) is replaced with a Comma (,) as shown in the illustration below where the 1000 separator option selected is the Period:

Number Format Control Group – Symbol Control
The Symbol dropdown control provides eight (8) options as shown below:

The eight (8) options shown in the illustration above include one None option and one Percent (%) option. Additionally there are five (5) World Currency options and two (2) timespan options (Hours & Days).
If the selected imported source plan field is a Percentage type, the default provided by OnePager is the Percent symbol (%). If the imported source plan field is an effort or Work field, the default provided by OnePager is the Hours symbol. When the imported source plan field is numeric and OnePager cannot ascertain a specific numeric sub-type, OnePager assumes the imported source plan field is a Currency and the default symbol attached is the Dollar Sign ($). Selecting the None option results in OnePager applying no prefix or suffix to the numeric value placed in the Data Cell.
Recall that OnePager sums the values in the timespan to create the Data Cell Value displayed in the timespan’s Data Cell. This is important to remember when attempting to use Percentage values that are imported from your source plan in a format between 0.00 and 1.00. OnePager sums these values over the timespan as well so, for example, %Complete imported from a Microsoft Project source plan may display values greater that 100% in the Data Cell.
The illustration below shows three Panels where the first is a Dollar currency, the second is a Work effort in hours, and the third is Cumulative Cost by Quarters in Dollar currency. Each of the three Panels shown below has the appropriate Symbol option selected. The three Panel Chart looks like this:

It should be noted that OnePager understands that with Microsoft Project the Work field is in Hours and OnePager automatically appends the suffix hrs to the numeric value. This is done also when the Work field appears in a Text Column cell as well. OnePager does NOT perform hours-to-days conversions if you select the Days Symbol option for imported source plan data that are in Hours.
It is your responsibility to select the appropriate Symbol option as a prefix or suffix for the numeric values in the Panel’s data cells.
Number Format Control Group – Multiplier Control
The Multiplier is provided so that the Data Cell Label can show a text that specifies the value to be multiplied by to get the actual value of the Data Cell. This is illustrated below for thousands where the multiplier is “K”:

When the Multiplier selected above is applied to the Panel’s Data Cells, the Multiplier is shown in the Data Cell Label and the Data Cell Values are scaled by a factor of one-thousand as shown below:

Summary
This article describes the controls available to edit Panel properties in Data Cell mode. These Panel properties include the Panel’s Data Cell mode’s Number Format control group which includes controls for the number of Decimal places in the Data Cell’s numeric values, the Symbol for the 1000 separator, and the Multiplier capability is provided so you can use a scaling factor in Data Cell Labels and Value cells.
